Travellers' Choice
A warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome awaits you at this proper family run Inn. Next year will be our 30th at The White Swan and we have just about got things organised. From the moment you walk through the doors you'll feel at home. We aim to keep things simple and just let you relax ...Tom Parker Bowles reckons 'Every market town should have a White Swan' and the Daily Telegraph described us as 'God's own Country Pub' on a recent visit. If you read the reviews here you will get a flavour of what we are trying to do. We are an Inn with a lovely restaurant and 2 rosette food but not the plastic fine dining you find in many four star properties. Real food, real people, lovely rooms and great value for money. And by the way if you are not delighted I will give you your money back so long as you tell us at the time.Victor Buchanan - Owner

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staff are very welcoming upon arrival. Food for dinner and breakfast were excellent. Accommodation and people know how to be really dog friendly. Strongly recommend anyone to book, stay and eat at White Swan Inn. Staff know had to welcome dogs and owners.

Enjoyed a two night stay with our two dogs in one of the Hideaway rooms. Room was nice and well appointed and large enough to accommodate our two labradors without us falling over one another... Flagged floors idea although underfloor heating was a tad cosy initially. Staff friendly. Breakfast offered was excellent and we enjoyed a steak in house on our second evening - again pleasant meal. Would recommend a stay at The White Swan. Ample car park at rear of property

Wonderful relaxing break with our dog. Well equipped rooms, convenient car parking, excellent dinners and breakfasts. Friendly hosts. Tempting bar. Plenty of logs for the fires. Great location to explore Whitby, Scarborough by bus. Fantastic walking is directly accessible from the White Swan or via a short drive, bus ride or, during the running seasons, a NYMR train.

Just to say a huge thank you to all staff who ensured our stay was truly enjoyed! The room and bathroom were extremely clean throughout our stay (well done housekeeping!). Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Thank you to Katy for her hospitality too. Excellent breakfast and evening meal! Information pack in the room was hilarious! Glad we DIDN'T get lost and end up in ALnwick! Hope to see you all again!

I had travelled by train and bus from Sussex that day and wanted somewhere to relax and have dinner. Locals suggested The White Swan was the best place in Pickering for "a decent pint and a bite to eat". I was not disappointed. The bar was very comfortable with a realxed atmosphere. The beer had been kept well but the food... I was planning on having a fairly simple meal but when I saw the menu I changed my mind. Mussels from Shetland, fish from Whitby and cheese from Yorkshire, Scotland and Cornwall. I could not fault the establishment - the staff were attentive without being overwhelming, the beer was good and the food excellent. I thorougly enjoyed the four hours I spent at The White Swan.

Went for Sunday lunch and was very disappointed. Ordered roast beef option which arrived with a good portion of beef and a good sized Yorkshire pudding. It went downhill from there… Sliver of carrot and 3 dried up roast potatoes and not hot despite being told to watch the plate? Veg arrived… dish of red cabbage and some cauliflower cheese? That was it! No green stuff whatsoever? You know, cabbage, sprouts, green beans or any other variety of good British seasonal vegetables? I think for what was charged this was a very mediocre Sunday lunch and I was hungry so ate it. The staff were wonderful by the way, couldn’t fault them hence the small print service charge was not removed!

The staff were Lovely and welcoming. The room/suit was great and you can park very close.Breakfast was great too. I think it would be a good idea to add slippers to the room/suit as the stone floor was cold. Highly recommended this wonderful inn.

When you think of a cosy pub with roaring fires, superb food and friendly staff this is it. We booked for one night and ended up staying for 2. The beds were so comfortable and the rooms clean and spacious, breakfast was excellent the home made black pudding is delicious, We ate in the restaurant and the food was exquisite so highly recommended and reasonably priced. The staff are extremely friendly and informative and clearly vested in the success of the business. The young men at breakfast were so sweet and it was refreshing to see tennagers that speak and are pleasant. Parking is free on site, and you are on the main high street in pickering yet you can’t hear any noise, the location is perfect for visiting the moors, and the train at the bottom of the road goes to whitby. malton and castle howard are close by as well. We can’t wait to return thankyou for a lovely stay
