Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a lovely experience, brilliant memories made with our little boys. Everything we needed in the Yurt and the hosts were friendly and helpful. We even stayed the first night during a storm and were cosy, warm and dry. Lovely nights sleep in comfy beds. We made a campfire, listened to the owls and gazed at the stars. We will definitely be back.

First time doing anything like this and enjoyed it. The yurt had everything needed. We had the larger of the yurts available. Clean and organised. ideal base for Pickering, the North Yorkshire moors and coast. I can imagine in warmer climes it will be a relaxing place just to chill out with a book and a glass of wine outside whilst the kids play. We did find our yurt cold overnight even with the log burner on. (it was October after all) However my son and his family in the smaller yurt felt considerable warmer. The electric blankets were a lovely addition in a very comfy bed.

If owner and site manager Mark Henderson was without some sort of military background then you would be surprised by his hands-on policing of rules and order over the glampsite. Free spirited artists/musicians are a welcome mix though not amongst conformists to the site wanting a disciplined retreat (unless you book the entire site for one party). When you arrive, read the sub-print, it will tell you that this is a ‘tranquil’ glampsite in which no applified music - including from a phone - no talking/whispering against an 11pm bedtime curfew is permitted. No matter your age even birthday celebrations, however quietly intimate, beyond this hour will be deemed disrespectful. We arrived mid-late evening after an arduous 3.5hr treck through scorching heat and traffic jams to a place we were told only that was outdoors, which was booked as a birthday gift. That was just one of the surprises in stall. Once there we were given a quick pep talk then railroaded around the site faster than a Yorkshire locomotive seconds before darkness fell. Far too much information than can be absorbed gave tunnel vision the kind which ordinarily could be excused, if you are managing only to grasp the essentials. Our only birthday wish was that Mark could have been a bit more clear, precise and specific as to what was expected of us; by the time we had set up camp, got a fire and the bbq going, sorted out the kid’s needs before we could all settle to eat. We were in pitch black way past the hour for contemplating let alone to sit by firelight and read the rather large glamp manual we only discovered next morning. But for a dark figure emerging just after 11pm out of the thick black air over our low-key gathering that commanded us to put an end to things and thereon with daily reminder each morning and evening after. You would be unmistaken in the belief that the strictest kind of invitee fit for passing through this enclave was the wind itself. A sense of community spirit wouldn’t have gone amiss and this could have been quite empowering and colourful for all - but for finding Mark’s marching orders all but restrictive, probably preventing co-glampers from striking up accord with each other for fear of crossing boundaries, which might run into rule breaking. It was a birthday treat we would not repeat. Granted, this glampsite had emerged when we were under strict quarantine during COVID. Mark needs to focus now on adapting it with the times and needs of individuals not by the one size fits all approach. We hope this is taken as constructive criticism - though we do suspect a comeback that paints an entirely different picture to the one presented. However, this is not about accuracy admittedly, we are not perfect. It is about balancing and adopting some level of discretion that considers the needs of all ‘individually’, having some respect for that, for personal levels of autonomy, and encouraging community cohesion. We hope that you enjoy staying here and painting a different picture for us in future.

Great location, 30 to 40 minutes drive to whitby and Robin hoods bay. Flamingo Park is 10 minutes drive. The camp site had everything you need when glampong. Beds were comfy and the kids loved all the games on site.

Family of three - stayed for three nights with our dog and had a great time. Our yurt was very clean and comfortable and the facilities were excellent. The site is located within easy access of local and regional attractions. Our hosts were on hand throughout and made our time at the site all the more enjoyable. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Set in beautiful scenery ( ten min walk to pickering) and peaceful. We stayed in the stargazer yurt which had plenty of room for the 4 of us and was very cozy albeit you are woken early when the sun shines. The amenities were good there's a communal shower, washing up area with microwave, kettle and fridge freezer. We had a private shower and toilet which was clean and made the whole experience more comfortable and everyone has a 4 ring gas hob plus you could get food delivered from local takeaways. If I could say anything critical it would be I wished the yurt doors had some sort of netting to keep anything out and keep the doors open other than that I highly recommend staying here and Freya and Mark made us feel very welcome thanks again

Just arrived home from a weeks trip at Swallowtails. Despite it being quite a wet week we had a wonderful glamping week. First time glamping for us and it was a welcome upgrade( from camping) to have a nice shower and toilet connected to our Yurt. The Yurt's are warm and dark with comfortable beds which enabled good nights sleep all round. The yurts are well set up for a family of four and the facilities were enjoyed by our two children ( 3 & 5) with play rooms, playgrounds and activities onsite. They explored the campsite freely and independently allowing us time to read with a G&T. The owners, Mark and Freya live onsite and take great care of the site and its guests so we felt well looked after. The site is small, with around nine units and is therefore feels quite quiet on the whole and there was very much a family feeling to the site ( this was in the school holidays). Pickering itself is a great location for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the beach and we enjoyed family trips to Whitby, Robins Hood Bay, Scarborough and York ( around 45 minutes) as well as a day at Flamingo land! We stayed a whole week and felt like we could of had longer. Thank you to Mark and Freya for a great week.

'Fantastic hosts! Great communication from the initial booking through to meeting us on arrival. Freya did a great walk through of their fantastic facilities and then left us to our own devices. Mark was also there to answer any queries and even let us use the hot tub earlier than scheduled as it had reached its temperature. Will be returning in the near future!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swallowtails staying in the ‘Cuckoo’ yurt. Lovely and warm cozy with cute mini wood burner, such a relaxing stay. Mark and Freya are exceptional Hosts and have created a heaven within walking distance to the stunning scenery of the moors. Would definitely recommend especially for a family getaway as it caters for children with a games room and adventure play area. Will definitely be returning next summer and visiting the nearby Scarborough beach Thanks for a great stay Fraya and Mark, see you again soon!
