We stayed recently with a number of other families due to attending a local football tournament. We stayed in the 22 foot yurt which comfortably slept 6. The beds were very comfortable and each had an electric blanket. We also had a log burner which we put on both evenings which added additional warmth.

The ensuite compost type toilet and shower was a surprise and was a welcome addition due to the bad weather we experienced. There are flushable toilets 100m down the field. The yurt itself was excellently equipped and had everything you needed. The outdoor cooking area and fire pit were great.

We booked the hot tub for the kids and also pizza making for the whole party which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Mark (owner) did amazingly well cooking around 26 pizzas !!! He was around the site regularly and nothing was too much trouble. We all look forward to returning again next year and maybe even sooner.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Set in beautiful scenery ( ten min walk to pickering) and peaceful. We stayed in the stargazer yurt which had plenty of room for the 4 of us and was very cozy albeit you are woken early when the sun shines. The amenities were good there's a communal shower, washing up area with microwave, kettle and fridge freezer. We had a private shower and toilet which was clean and made the whole experience more comfortable and everyone has a 4 ring gas hob plus you could get food delivered from local takeaways. If I could say anything critical it would be I wished the yurt doors had some sort of netting to keep anything out and keep the doors open other than that I highly recommend staying here and Freya and Mark made us feel very welcome thanks again

We stayed for 2 nights at Swallow Tails. I only booked it a few days before as had a really stressful month leading up to August and last minute we decided to just take off somewhere and relax away from pressures of work and life! We were clear on the brief.....: calm, beautiful scenery, things for our 9 year old to do, dog friendly location and most importantly....relaxation!
Swallow Tails did not disappoint on any of our must have requirements. As soon as we stepped on site we knew we had made the right choice and I literally could feel the stress and tension start to lift. Our daughter was delighted with the on site games and activities, the table tennis and park. She made friends straight away with some lovely kids and we felt she was totally safe and able to roam free whilst on site. She loved having her independence and made the most of being outdoors. She wasn't on her screens or games the whole time we were there, which made me so happy. Our dog is very timid but he settled into glamping life very easily. We took a long leash amd secured it to our picnic table as dogs can't go off lead. He was able to roam around our pitch without feeling tied up and just loved watching the world go by. We loved the lotus belle tent 'Night jar' and found everything we would need or want for our stay. You could self cater quite easily with the excellent facilities but we made the most of our time away and got fish and chips from Pickering on the first night, and had a small bbq topped up with a pizza delivery the second night. Mark was very accommodating and showed us where everything was, the owners have a presence on site but are not pushy or constantly supervising. We pre-booked the hot tub which I would very much recommend. We had it from 1pm until late. It was so private and relaxed. We just came and went from our tent to the hot tub whenever we felt like a dip. Our daughter absolutely loved it. The facilities were clean, of good quality and the other campers were very respectful of each other with the evenings and nights being silent! The fact no cars are allowed into the site is a huge bonus as the ground is intact and it is safe for children and somehow even being away from your car makes you feel cut off from the hustle and bustle of the world. Beds were super comfy, and we all slept soundly. The fireplace outside was lovely and there was the opportunity to purchase extra fuel.
I cannot fault this place. My daughter rated it 15 out of 10 and did not want to leave. Even the dog had a miserable face on when we left. Thank you Swallow Tails for delivering exactly what we needed. I sat on my recliner with a glass of wine on one evening and looked up to the sky...I could hear nothing but the birds - I could have been anywhere in the world. So glad we found Swallow Tails. We will be back ❤️ ⛺️ x x x x x

Recently spent 3 nights in a fabulous yurt named Periwinkle at Swallowtails. Myself, my daughter and grandsons aged 15 & 12 shared this deceptively spacious accommodation that was kitted out with everything we needed. The beds were super comfy and our en suite (in a shed behind) was perfect. We cooked on our outdoor kitchen but also on the campfire, so really embraced the “back to nature” vibe. Our hosts couldn’t have been more accommodating and we met some lovely people too. We finished our stay with an afternoon in the wood fired hot tub. A brilliant experience, which I would definitely recommend.

Just arrived home from a weeks trip at Swallowtails. Despite it being quite a wet week we had a wonderful glamping week. First time glamping for us and it was a welcome upgrade( from camping) to have a nice shower and toilet connected to our Yurt. The Yurt's are warm and dark with comfortable beds which enabled good nights sleep all round.

The yurts are well set up for a family of four and the facilities were enjoyed by our two children ( 3 & 5) with play rooms, playgrounds and activities onsite. They explored the campsite freely and independently allowing us time to read with a G&T. The owners, Mark and Freya live onsite and take great care of the site and its guests so we felt well looked after. The site is small, with around nine units and is therefore feels quite quiet on the whole and there was very much a family feeling to the site ( this was in the school holidays).

Pickering itself is a great location for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the beach and we enjoyed family trips to Whitby, Robins Hood Bay, Scarborough and York ( around 45 minutes) as well as a day at Flamingo land! We stayed a whole week and felt like we could of had longer.

Thank you to Mark and Freya for a great week.

First word which springs to mind is ‘wow’! I stayed at Swallowtails with a family group of 11 people and each and everyone of us loved our stay. In fact none of us wanted our time to end.
They really have thought of everything from a games room for keeping the children entertained, to odourless toilets which definitely bring the glam to camping.
We loved staying in the Stargazer Mongolian Yurt, it had everything we needed and more. The beds were comfy and warm with electric blankets and to wake up to the beautiful chorus of birds was just delightful. The location was perfect, it was safe for the little ones and attention to detail was just right. We’re already wondering when we can return. Thank you for making my 40th birthday a special one.

We have just returned from a wonderful few days at Swallowtails!
The location is perfect to explore the North East coast and we also enjoyed exploring the local village Pickering.
The yurts were pristine and well equipped. The beds were very comfy and the site was well thought out. The children had plenty of space to run and play on the green in the middle, the rustic play area at the bottom of the paddock plus an added bonus of a play room in the stables!
During our stay the children got a 24 hour bug and Mark was very understanding and helpful. He even offered to do our washing!
We throughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you so much The Horridges

We had a great stay here in a bell tent. So comfy inside with lots of extra touches like electric blankets which made our stay fab. The individual fire pits, cooking areas and hammocks were great fun. There is a shop on site with things like wood for the fire and marshmallows which was helpful. We walked to the steam railway from here and caught it to Whitby. Highly recommend this little gem!

This is a delightful Glamping site run by lovely people and I am a convert. Camping is something that, with a young son, my wife said we must try. My reply, politely translated as ‘no way’ lead to her putting Glamping on the table to which I reluctantly agreed. She found this place. I was converted almost immediately. We stayed in the Kingfisher Bell Tent which had a comfortable bed and stove, and electricity supply. It is within walking distance of the North York Moors Railway from which you can take a scenic steam train to Whitby, which we did. Though the single shower and toilet are for the use of all tents, they were clean and stocked at all times and the shower was hot. The fire shed was well stocked and reasonably priced. Our son (10) had a great time with the other children on the site with the games provided and the other families were lovely. Great host family and we will definitely come back.

Myself, husband, 2 daughters age 20 and 25 and one of their partners stayed in the Stargazer at Swallowtails, this is the largest Yurt and was fully equipped with everything you need, the Yurt was very quirky and clean, every bed had an electric blanket and a wood burning stove (We did not need to use these), we had our own ensuite with shower cubicle and toilet which was spacious, outside there was a fire pit, 4 ring gas hob and a BBQ which we used them all. We walked to Pickering many times, you can either walk along a woodland walkway along the stream or through the houses, both ways took between 10 and 15 minutes. We were there Monday to Friday, we visited Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Malton, Scarborough and also booked the train to Goathland where we did a hike to Mallyan Spout. In Pickering we tried the Indian restaurant and The Bay Horse both were lovely, we also had a meal at Middleton Arms which was lovely home cooked food, this was a 10 minute drive away. We loved our stay Freya and Mark really work hard to keep this site in top shape and I would recommend either to use as a base or if you stayed on the site it would be very chilled, there is a small play area, a little games room and table tennis/badminton to keep your children entertained.
