Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a great weekend at Cawthorne House learning how to make sourdough bread with Pascal. Pascal is a great teacher – anyone who serves Prosecco during a bakery lesson has to be! Joking aside Pascal is a great teacher, I was really chuffed with my first loaf (see pictures) and I left feeling really confident about making my own sourdough in the future. Cawthorne House is really comfortable. Everything is fresh and clean. Breakfast is a feast.

Perfect base in Pickering. Warm comfortable rooms and a warm welcome. The breakfasts set us up for a day of househunting, and Pascal was a great source of information. We liked it so much, we went on two separate occasions, and are looking forward to the next opportunity to stay.

Absolutely fantastic. You can’t go wrong here. If you’re coming to Pickering just stay here job done. Brilliant breakfast, brilliant room, lovely and friendly family run BnB. Having warm fresh sourdough bread in the morning sure perks you up. Other options for breakfast available we recommend the smashed avocado on toast or the salmon. Not your average BnB

What an absolute gem of a find in Pickering. The host Pascal was very welcoming and went out of his way make us feel welcome. The room was spacious and spot on for cleanliness. The breakfast was freshly prepared, and to order. The sourdough bread was freshly baked and amazing. I would highly recommend the hotel and definitely go again next year.

Three nights here was wonderful. Lovely accommodation and tasty breakfast especially the homemade bread. Great host, would definitely return when hopefully the weather is better as it is a great base to explore more of North Yorkshire. The steam railway is a must 🚂 😊😊

Great place to stay. Pascal goes to a lot of trouble to make you welcome and does great breakfasts. Lovely room, spotlessly clean. Located really well both for walking into Pickering and for all the other tourist activities in the area. Parking too - always a bonus.

This is a great guest house but not a hotel if that is what you are looking for. It is in a tremendous location within easy walking distance to the centre of Pickering & close to restaurants, shops etc. Breakfast ingredients was top notch, cooked to perfection but maybe a little portion controlled & needed to be chosen (as well as your time slot) the evening before. Venue was warm, comfortable & clean with adequate off street parking and the host was welcoming and very informative on options for site seeing and local eateries. You will enjoy the stay if you make this your option.

We had a fantastic 2-night stay at Cawthorne House. THe room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, but the highlight had to be the breakfast. The bacon is to die for! Pascal made us feel very welcome with a glass of fizz and canape on arrival. Location is perfect for the middle of Pickering and the NYMR, yet perfectly quiet. Thank you - and we will be back!

Host Pascal, warm and engaging, greets you with the warmest of welcomes, and the mood remains the same during our all too brief 2 night stay. Yes, the bread is fabulous, as is the breakfast. This is a happy place, and a credit to him and his family. All the best for the future.

Fantastic guest house. Very welcoming by Pascal the owner and the breakfasts are awesome. Especially the homemade bread. Short walk into Pickering so close to places to eat and drink. Parking at the back of the B&B (small area) what is one of the things I like about staying anywhere. The room was spacious and very comfortable. A perfect place to chill out. Also a steam train close by.
