Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was our second visit to Sue and Paul’s guest house. A lovely warm welcome awaited us. The room we had was at the top of the house with a view of the sea. Beautifully decorated. Fab modern touches like a Wi-Fi mirror in the bathroom and the best stocked tea/coffee tray in the whole of Ireland! I loved the coffee machine and pods. Very clean and comfortable throughout. Superior linens and bedding. Breakfast - plenty of choices, cooked fresh and served in a beautiful dining room. The lady who was the breakfast server was so friendly and attentive. I can see why Shelleven has won award after award. Plenty of room to park the car and only a short walk from the harbour. I really can’t sing Shellevens praises any higher. Perfect and we will return. Thanks Sue and Paul.

My Wife and I made our third visit to the Shelleven so they must be doing something right! Reasonably priced tariff, very clean and comfortable rooms. Powerful shower and good quality linen. Peaceful location and ideal for a good nights undisturbed sleep after a busy day. Thoroughly recommend the Ulster Fry Very amenable and courteous staff without being overbearing. Look forward to our next visit.

We had a truly wonderful week at Shelleven Guest House, Bangor. Sue the owner made us very welcome, shhe is a lovely lady who is very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The location was perfect for our needs. Within walking distance to the promenade and town centre. We had a terrific view of the seaside and Bangor from our bedroom window. Our room was absolutely beautiful, with a super comfortable bed, pillows, lovely linen, and soft towels. All of which made our stay very comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing. The cooked breakfasts were delicious. We have been extremely happy and pleased with our stay. Highly recommend.

My partner and I stayed at Shelleven Guest House at the weekend & we couldn't have asked for a better time away! We were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our room which was heaven! I've not slept in a bed that comfy...ever! It was super peaceful and super clean. The location was amazing, right by the Marina perfect for an evening walk. We also had a delicious breakfast the next morning which was a great end to a great stay. Highly recommend!

Paul and Sue at Shelleven House were exceptional hosts. Their guest house was a tranquil and comfortable place to stay, especially as a solo traveller. I felt safe and secure at all times. I particularly appreciated how they both remembered my name and would address me by name at breakfast and around the house. Breakfast was consistently brilliant, homely and filling. There was an option for every need! I will definitely be returning and recommending to family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Shelleven House, an attractive Victorian townhouse, is an excellent option for exploring Belfast and the region. We were able to leave our car safely and walk to the train link into Belfast easily. Bangor also a number of restaurants within walking distance. Our upper floor room was quite large, quiet, and well equipped, although quite a few stairs to climb with luggage. Our host was professional and very informative with local information.

Stayed one night march 2023 in room 14 (ground floor). Lovely room with nice furniture and accessories. There is a small terrace but we couldn't use it because of inclement weather. The bathroom is large and well equipped. The location is very good - a short walk to the coastal path and not far from the town centre. Plenty of onsite parking. Breakfast was lovely and tasty. Above all, the hosts are super friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

The Guest House was absolutely fantastic and we couldn’t have wished for more. It’s full of character and has a real homely feeling with caring hosts. It’s kept to a high standard without losing charm and the breakfast was delicious. Would absolutely recommend and obviously stay there again.
