Love it!! Such a lovely place and ideal as a stopover for our Hadrian's Wall walk. We had originally booked for camping on the lawn of Sandysike House, the owners were friendly and accommodating, even when we changed our plans and ended up in the bunkhouse last minute due to the weather conditions. The bunkhouse is well equipped and clean...

The place is very nice and cozy. There's a separate lounge room with a fireplace. The bunkhouse is heated and clean with good facilities. The owners are helpful and friendly. I wouldn't recommend going here with a dog, because the dog will have to stay in a kennel away from the bunkhouse. Packed lunches should be requested a day in...

Lovely, old-fashioned accommodation. Tea and coffee provided. Kitchen facilities available with oven and fridge etc. Nice hot shower with heated towel rail - great for getting towels dry before putting back in rucksacks! Comfy beds. Open fire if needed. Will stay again.

We booked this with some trepidation, given some of the poor reviews but it is great for camping. I have given it 4 stars-it's not the Ritz, but then, we were living in a tent. Owners are eccentric and friendly, and I enjoyed talking to them. Toilets and showers were clean and had electric sockets etc. Camping on the front...

The accommodation in the bunkhouse is basic but comfortable. Of course the children loved the bunk beds! It could get cold but for us the weather was fairly warm and this was not an issue. The showers and toilets were fine. Breakfast - was lovely (extra charge of course) but included everything you might expect. We would certainly come again.

Sandysike is a basic bunkhouse set in a lovely part of Cumbria. The owner was out for the evening so we made our selves 'at home' Don't expect Laura Ashley furnishing, the beds are ok, there is a small kitchen and a basic shower room. There is a small room with a fire which we lit as we arrived soaking...

Camped here while doing Hadrian's Wall Path. Great views from the front garden of the lovely house that forms the campsite. Host couldn't have been more friendly and popped out a couple of times too see if we were ok. Had a look in the bunk house and that looked clean and warm. Would recommend if your doing the wall...

Arrived here by chance and was welcomed by the owner, he showed us to our camp for the night which was his front lawn. The view was outstanding, amenities were basic but clean and the owner brought breakfast to our tent in the morning. Loved my stay here, noises in the night were foxes

Felt a bit weird camping on someone's front lawn but that's what made this memorable. Host popped his head to see if we wanted food (we didn't as we'd read the reviews!) but other than that left us to it. Great spot. Fabulous views. toilets and showers ok. Fine for one night walking Hadrian's Wall. Kept awake all night by...

We stayed in the main house after a long walk along the wall. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly. She provided food and drinks (for a charge) as there is nowhere within walking distance for an evening meal. We had a cold lager on arrival and a decent meal of cottage pie and chocolate fudge cake....

“Only one room in the bunkhouse... so any bed would do. The pairs of bunks are divided by curtains to add a little privacy.”

“There is wifi in the main house, though not really IN our room. If you ask them for the wifi password it works just fine to send messages or emails from the room at the top of the stairs.”
  • The landing at the top of the stairs just outside our room, my favorite place to sit and write.
