Farlam Hall Hotel & Restaurant has earned accolades for its amenities, including picturesque grounds and diverse dining options, complemented by thoughtfully furnished rooms. The exceptional service delivered by attentive and professional staff contributes to the hotel's welcoming ambiance.
While guests commend the immaculate cleanliness throughout the hotel, opinions on the rooms are mixed, with some finding them beautifully appointed yet possibly overpriced. Although some visitors seek a livelier atmosphere, the hotel is often appreciated for its elegant and serene environment.

Detailed Reviews
We were so impressed with this hotel as I was worried the rooms would be old and flamboyantly decorated, however, we were given a ground floor room that had been recently decorated in neutral colours and was gorgeous as well as spotlessly clean.
The bathroom was wonderful with a huge shower. We loved the built -in electric toothbrush charger.
We were greeted on arrival by the chef who was really friendly and accommodating regarding our dinner choices and the food was great, at dinner and at breakfast. As for the restaurant, it is a stunning room and the management ensured there was adequate space between tables to maintain social distance so we felt really safe. The staff were all great too, with a brilliant management team.
My only negative is that there was not a good dog walk from the door. The grounds are pretty but a bit too small for a dog walk with our border collies, so we drove 5 minutes to some nice countryside tracks in the village. (Note that dogs need to stay in the car at meal times or you can dine in the lounge with them.)
We stayed 2 nights on our way to Scotland so we could see Hadrian's Wall and visit Kielder Forest and would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

I broke my long journey from Scotland to stay here on a Sunday evening.
Glorious setting in lovely garden in gorgeous village. A warm welcome and fabulous large double room with very comfortable king size bed looking over garden. Very traditionally furnished probably with furniture from the original Hall when it was a house. Interesting history attached to the house. Same family owned it then it has been a hotel for 40 years. The present American owners bought it 2 years ago. Absolutely super clean and sparkling everywhere. In The middle of Covid this was brilliant. Especially as travelling up through Northumberland to northern Scotland I stayed at places who were totally ignoring the cleaning process. Peter and Bebe who manage the hotel are clearly on their game and very knowledgable . Their chef Steven Potts and his team is terrific. I had scallops from Mull and loin of venison. Superbly cooked and tasted delicious. These young chefs know what they are doing. A reasonable wine list but I think they could go further with choice of wine. But I had a South African Rose which was very acceptable. They are serving delicious food which deserves possibly a more comprehensive list with different price ranges but it is certainly adequate and my comments are not meant to criticise.
They have been undergoing a huge makeover in the hotel. The dining room is beautiful. Tasteful in a traditional way with soft colours. The public rooms are similar soft and relaxing colours and lovely furniture. I gather some of the bedrooms have been updated also.
I met some guests who were waxing lyrical about their delicious afternoon tea.
The staff who I met were all delightful- helpful and totally on their game.
I felt relaxed and delighted that I discovered this gem. I can’t wait to go back. It’s quite near Brampton in Cumbria but also near enough to Hexham to make an alternative stop over from either Corbridge or Hexham.
Can’t recommend highly enough.

Our family have been regular visitors for evening meals and Sunday lunches since Farlam Hall changed hands 2 years ago. In this time, it has been impressively renovated and updated to an extremely high standard with no expense spared. Living locally, we feel very fortunate to have such a spectacular venue 20 minutes from home.
In my opinion, I feel it’s rare you find a place that excels in all aspects, however, Farlam Hall without a doubt does and that’s why we chose to have our Wedding reception there.
The new entrance to the hotel is impressive, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, the bedrooms are large, clean, and filled with natural light. The cottages are immaculate and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The main hotel is beautifully presented, the dining room is pristine with high quality cutlery, glasses etc. The menus, even breakfast, are always impressive and accommodating for everyone. There’s plenty of parking in the grounds.
Bb and Peter, the managers, are a huge asset to Farlam Hall. They’re welcoming, friendly, professional, extremely hard working and very simply, absolutely brilliant at their job!! A lovely couple, who go above and beyond and nothing is too much. Bb has been in the Wedding industry for 25 years so really knows her stuff, I trusted her so much I left a lot of the wedding planning in her hands and she didn’t disappoint. Peter is the most loveliest gentleman and together, they make a great team.
The rest of the staff at Farlam are also brilliant, attentive, polite and the service is impeccable - they make a really good team.
The standard of food is absolutely AMAZING!! We have never had a bad meal and I can’t express to you enough how brilliant the Chef, Steven is. Everything on the plate, you can actually taste, it always looks outstanding and tastes out of this World! He’s an extremely talented man. The food always excels our expectations. 20/10 every time! Steven even cooked our dogs tea for three nights on our wedding weekend, therefore she’s had her dinner made by a Michelin star chef! : ) if you have time, be sure to visit Mr. McGregors garden in the grounds where they grow their own produce!
All in all, I can 100% recommend Farlam Hall for afternoon tea, Sunday lunch, an evening meal, a short stay/long stay or a special event. So everything! You will not be disappointed and I think very soon this venue will be constantly fully booked.

The elimination of overseas holidays due to COVID put our ability to be creative to the test.
For us, far far away just south of the Scottish border we discovered a real gem on searching the trusted Relais & Chateaux web page.
We loved this hidden jewel , amazing food and it truly was of the highest level, awesome, breakfast included in our summary, often overlooked but the dishes served from the kitchen were truly as good as it gets. Our room was a decent size, the bed comfortable although the rattle and squeaks from the wardrobe needs attention, wonderfully clean everywhere.
All of the team were indeed good company if perhaps a little inexperienced, they were full of friendship, smiles and absolutely nothing was too much trouble.
For our three night stay we were blessed with warm sunny weather which complimented the fine surroundings carefully manicured grounds, the daily walks from the hotel were the icing on a fabulous visit. The visit to all the local attractions were a great experience.
Go, you won’t be disappointed, in fact you will be overjoyed you took the trouble to make the effort unlike many this hotel must rate as top value for money in a county full of surprises .
A wonderful experience
Thank you.

A 5-Star experience in every sense. My wife and I stayed at Farlam Hall as part of our honeymoon, traveling all the way from the United States. We found that the area would serve as a natural halfway point between our time in London and Edinburgh to rest and recharge, and also served as a perfect gateway to explore Hadrian's Wall and the English countryside. Little did we expect Farlam to end up being our favorite place that we lodged and dined through our entire trip.
The grounds are immaculately kept, the gardens tidy and vibrant perfectly complimenting the charm of the main house and fountain that meets you as you first arrive. The interior decoration is worthy of a feature in Condé Nast; elegant stately clean lines flow from room to room, but the tones and designs of the furniture and wallpaper are calm and cool. Whoever designed this place uniquely understands the space's purpose to set the tone of relaxation for their guests. The staff made us aware that the property went through a full scale renovation during the pandemic and you can tell no expense was spared. I was incredibly impressed by the modern amenities available to us on the grounds (brand new appliances as we stayed in one of the villas, a charging station for electric vehicles, incredible wifi) that were cleverly integrated across the space as to not take away from the historic splendor of the property.
Farlam's beauty is only truly matched by The Cedar Tree Restaurant also located within the main hall of the property. The dining room is absolutely stunning and it was by far the best meal we had our entire honeymoon. We had the privilege of meeting the Chef, Hrishikesh Desai, who unbeknownst to us at the time is new to Farlam and is a rising star in the English fine dining circuit. Prior to Farlam he was awarded a Michelin Star, and I would be absolutely shocked if the Cedar Tree does not earn one as well while he is there leading the kitchen. We did the 7-course tasting menu, the cuisine a modern spin on traditional English fare, and not a single dish faltered. Many of their fruits and vegetables come straight from the gardens on site, this is the bar when it comes to farm to table. Desai’s take on Beef Wellington was particularly inspired. The service and plating was exceptional, the wine list elite in its breadth and depth. Looking around the dining room both nights there wasn't a single table that wasn't in total bliss. Breakfast was equally delicious.
Every staff member there was professional, friendly, prompt, and devoted to meeting the needs of the guests. Concierge was able to summon taxi service to take us to and from the Wall and Carlisle's train station on extremely short notices. The staff were also superbly knowledgeable on local attractions and eateries. Farlam Hall is a show stopper and an absolute must see.

We stayed at Farlam Hall in the week leading up to Christmas and had a great time. We were one of the few occupied rooms due to Covid restrictions limiting who could visit but this was a bonus since we had some of the public areas to ourselves.
The good:
* Food is outstanding, from the delicious eggy bread at breakfast to the dinner with lots of game and other options. Currently it has two rosettes but I am certain this will improve soon as it is very good quality.
* Location is great, in a small village near Brampton. Great proximity to Hadrian's Wall.
* Beautiful public areas with fireplaces and space for board games
* Great service from the staff, very accommodating with our requests
* WiFi was excellent
The bad:
* The bed was a bit small but our room was yet to be refurbished as others had, so perhaps that will be bigger once the refurb is completed
Overall:
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and I would be happy to return here in a future location

Difficult to find fault
It’s difficult to find fault with this excellent, small hotel. We were there for a few days in early April. We stayed in a junior suite which looked out on 2 sides of the garden. As well as the large bed it had a sofa and arm chair. It would have been easy to sit there most of the day looking out on to the garden.
The garden itself was lovely and, if you like wildlife, it was full of birds. In just a few days we saw a dipper, a sparrowhawk, a grey wagtail, siskin, nuthatches, a treecreeper, a red kite, a buzzard, as well as the normal garden birds.
The bathroom had been recently refurbished with a large bath and walk in shower. It also looked out on to a third side of the building.
The food was very good. There is an a la carte menu every day and, on some days, they have a tasting menu.
As you would expect the staff were professional, friendly and helpful.
However, what stood out was value for money it offered. We live in the south of England and have stayed in many similar properties in the south and south west, including several in the Relais & Chateaux group. In the south we would have had to pay at least £200 more a night for similar accommodation and food. I can only assume it is the location in a fairly remote part of the north which accounts for the price.
It is a long way from us but if we are in the area again I would certainly return. Anyone, looking for an excellent hotel in this area would be mad not to choose Farlam Hall.

We went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary staying two nights. The accommodation is comfortable, well appointed and well maintained with subdued, gentle tones. The grounds are immaculate and tranquil. The food is delicious. We opted for a three course meal on the first night and the tasting menu (pre-booked before our arrival) and wine flight on the second. Both meals were expertly prepared and served and each wine in the wine flight complimented the food perfectly. For breakfast there is a good choice which is again well served. All the staff are friendly and helpful and attentive to guests' needs. We look forward to returning.

We booked this last minute to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we stayed 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast. What can I say ? It was fabulous. The location, the service, the food and the room were all faultless. We were also kindly given an upgrade to a recently refurbished suite which was amazing. I can’t speak highly enough about our experience and would thoroughly recommend it. The highlight for us was the food. An amazing menu complemented by some fantastic wine. All the staff were very friendly and professional and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back.
