The Old School House is a 200 year old cottage in the village of Hallbankgate in Cumbria. It is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the end of the Pennine hills and close to the Scottish border. The village itself is steeped in history and was the home of Stephenson’s Rocket which ended its working days here. There are many places of interest to visit in the area. Hadrian’s Wall is 10 minutes drive away and the impressive twelfth century Lanercost Priory is just down the road. We have miles of stunning fellside scenery and many grand and lonely walks. The RSPB Geltsdale reserve is one mile from Hallbankgate and has a network of walks where a wide variety of birds can be seen including the rare black grouse which is now thriving in the area. The border city of Carlisle is about 13 miles away and is an exciting city with a beautiful cathedral, castle and an award winning museum – Tullie House. It is also a great place to shop!We are close to Talkin Tarn which is a tranquil and pretty place – ideal for an evening stroll. The river Gelt is also nearby and provides a beautiful tree lined walk along its banks. The Old School House is comfortable and warm with two large en suite bedrooms. We provide a substantial cooked breakfast with our own home made bread and preserves and eggs from our own very happy hens!We look forward to welcoming you!!
