Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a fantastic place! Beautiful hotel set in the old Bodmin jail which was brilliantly and beautifully renovated, utter luxury! The staff were all without fail friendly and accommodating. The food was divine and we were totally spoiled by the chef. We came to have a belated valentine's day on the 21st of February because the half term fell on valentine's week. The staff were so lovely and have gone out of their way to ensure we had a lovely romantic stay. Thank you all so much, we shall definitely return and recommend.

Decided to treat ourselves to a bit of luxury and we were not disappointed. Booked a one night stay with dinner and breakfast included. The hotel has a distinct WOW factor which transfers right through into the individual rooms which in our case consisted of three cells knocked into a main room a double bedroom and a large bathroom and shower. The accommodation was immaculate with lovely crisp white linen on a very comfy bed. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Chapel and were excellent. Throughout our visit we found all the staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and intend returning very soon.

we stayed on the 20th February as a birthday gift to the wife and the last chance we had for a night away before our handfasting, everything was just perfect as soon as we got to the reception the lovely lady i didnt get her name long brown hair and glasses made us feel very welcome although we was slightly early checking in it wasnt a problem she explained everything really well and answered all our questions she was so polite and friendly it really made a great start to our stay, we stayed in room 301 on the top floor, the whole hotel was spotlessly clean the rooms were amazing!!! spacious with everything we needed the bed was the best night's sleep we had anywhere, the staff at the chapel restaurant went above and beyond catering for our needs and it was just nice to be served our food and not being interrupted wile we was eating was great giving both of us time to connect and talk about our big day we had ahead of us, the food was outstanding my beef cooked perfect for my liking, checking out was quick and easy we didnt want to leave we felt so welcome

Excellent hotel. Staff were very friendly and polite. Our bags were carried to our room. Loved the room. Couldn’t find a fault Very interesting walking around the hotel. Done the museum tour. Very well done. The hotel and rooms should feel creepy given the history. But it doesn’t at all. Very warm and welcoming The breakfast was perfect

Family of 4 booked for 2 nights in a family room, the room was lovely, had everything you’d need with comfy beds and a beautiful bathroom. My only suggestion would be a pillow menu as we found the pillows to be far too soft but that’s just personal preference. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but what a treat it was, the Eggs Royale were absolutely delicious. Plenty of variety to suit the kids and adults. The staff are so friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We booked a 2 night stay. The building is impressive and eerie all at once. You can hear a pin drop as you walk the halls, which, considering the hotel was full to capacity, you wouldn't know (other than the very small car park!) All staff very friendly. We were in room 101 in the civil wing. We experienced a fair amount of paranormal activity in the room! Some of which was caught on camera/video as visual and audio. So if that's what you're into I'd recommend but it did get spooky when you can feel someone/something touch your hair or pull your foot in bed! The robes were a nice touch and the bottle water and milk in the fridge. Toiletries nice although no shower gel only shampoo, conditioner and hand soap? We had drinks in the champagne bar an hour before our table reservation. It's smaller than I thought and we had the last seat. We booked dinner in The Chapel, £50 for 3 courses. The duck parfait, pheasant and cheese board all lovely and staff friendly. Breakfast each morning was also great. Considering the hotel was full to capacity (staff had told us) breakfast (and dinner) was never busy. Recommend the avocado on toast and the full Cornish breakfast. Also the pain au Chocolat are incredible. Only downside was the coffee, it just tasted very cheap considering the pricing. Would be nice to be offered latte, cappuccino etc not just what tasted like instant coffee. We sat in the library lounge in the evenings, we didn't opt for any tea and coffee but we enjoyed the lamp flickering. Spooky! It is nice to be able to walk around the hotel and explore a little during the evening. The atmosphere is electric. Naval wing particularly scary. We did the museum jail attraction, we had the whole thing to ourselves. It's very well done and would recommend. We drove 25 minutes the following day to Polzeath beach. We did a 4 mile coastal walk and had roast dinner at The Oystercatcher (would recommend). All in a plan very unique weekend away. Only downsides are not enough parking spaces for the amount of rooms and the coffee. If you want to ghost hunt, bring your equipment and stay in your room!!!!

Had a lovely time at Bodmin jail. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a gorgeous dinner in the chapel restaurant and pre dinner drinks in the chapel bar. The barman was very friendly. All the staff were lovely that we met. Reception, waiters bar staff and the restaurant staff. We also had breakfast which was also lovely. We had the tour included and we were the only people on it. It was very good. The gift shop was also nice. I am also sure that during the night I was woken up by constant scratching and a bit later on the feeling that someone or something was sat at the end of my bed. 👻👻😳

My wife and dog and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights to celebrate valentines. Absolutely wonderful stay. Food superb from the Chapel restaurant and breakfast plentiful and locally sourced. The rooms were as I had hoped and far exceeded our expectations The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and quite frankly we can't fault anything. We are returning in March with our children so they can experience the whole set up. Special mention to the lovely girls who served us at our gala dinner so polite friendly and knowledgeable about the jails history. Thank you all for a wonderful stay We will be reccomending you to all our customers family and friends. Tony and Angela Wolfe

My Husband and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights to celebrate my 60 th birthday. Absolutely wonderful stay. Food superb from the Chapel restaurant and breakfast plentiful and locally sourced. The rooms were as I had hoped for. As a Cornish girl it was wonderful to see what had been done with the old imposing building that I remember from my teenage years! The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and quite frankly we can't fault anything. We will return one day. Special mention for lovely Grace on the front desk. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.
