What a beautiful place to wind down for a few days with our teenage daughters. Julian and Miranda are exquisite hosts, as they offer a warm and inviting atmosphere from the get go. We awoke with a beautiful view of the River Dee, followed by a superb breakfast cooked by Miranda and a morning walk along the river. Woodend is situated close to Aboyne and Banchory, both with nice places to eat and shop. A 10/10 on all levels! We definitely will return on our next visit to Scotland.
What an amazing time we had at Woodend! Beautiful walks, delicious food and masses of history. The perfect romantic getaway spot, but I also imagine an idyllic countryside weekend with friends. Log cabin is a must see! Miranda and Julian were lovely and their dogs were divine! Couldn’t recommend more.
We have stayed a couple of times at Woodend house over the May Bank holiday, staying in the twin room with a friend. Miranda and Jules were the perfect hosts, cooking fabulous breakfasts in the mornings, and the option of supper too which was delicious. The beds were like clouds and waking up to such a beautiful setting and the sound of the River Dee added to the perfect relaxing weekend away. Everything is idyllic! Perfect for a fishing weekend, or like us lots of country walks and with the Balmoral estate a short drive away a fun place to visit.
We stayed as guests of Julian and Miranda McHardy last week-end ( 7th to 9th July 2018) and must say that we were highly impressed with the whole experience and would certainly recommend this beautiful place to others seeking solitude and relaxation, and we will certainly return in the future. A much better option than any of the local hotels. Both Julian & Miranda are very friendly and welcoming and it is a joy to share their lovely house with them.Everything is taken at a nice gentle pace and one immediately falls into the mood of relaxation in the comfortable surroundings, both inside the house and outdoors. Placed right by the river Dee there are river walks, and a beautiful sunny walled garden, and several well tended acres around the house. Indoors is well furnished in traditional style with many of the family's antiques featuring in the comfortable drawing-room, dining-room and bedrooms, and spotlessly clean too. Miranda is an excellent cook using much of the fresh produce from the garden, so dinner is well worth enjoying, as was the lovely breakfast. Not only an ideal place to stay if you enjoy fishing, but a great escape spot to re-charge the batteries and unwind. We must return soon!…
My visit to Woodend House with friends in early May 2018 was my first break from work for 18 months, so was important to me. It excelled all my expectations. My room was clean and tidy and very nicely furnished making me feel immediately at home. Wi-fi was available so I was able to contact home to let my wife know all was well, and that we had arrived safely at our destination. Our meal that evening was excellent, as was the full English breakfast the following morning, following a really good nights' sleep. There then followed a sublime three days of breakfast, salmon fishing, a light lunch on the riverbank followed by a hot bath and a perfectly cooked meal in the evening. Perfect. Our host and hostess were excellent company and I cannot wait to do exactly the same next year. Five star award for making our stay at Woodend House such an enjoyable one.…
