The Quinta do Outeiro is a beautifully restored manor house in the heart of Portugal's Douro valley. Nestling within its own five hectares (twelve acres) of cultivated farmland, it has several thousand fruit trees, extensive vineyards, and some stunning views into the valley. As well as four en-suite bedrooms in the main house and two large cottages in the grounds, we offer our guests historic formal gardens, a sanctified chapel, and pool terrace.

Every detail has been thought through on this property. It's beautiful and you will not be disappointed. We stayed in one of the 2-bedroom villas on the property and not the main house. However, we did opt for breakfast in the main house each morning which was lovely (the warm brie rolls were yummy). Villa and main lodge is beautifully appointed with a blend of antique furniture and modern comforts. Plus, there are 3 pools on property. Our villa had our own pool. The grounds are impeccable. So very stunning with lovely views of valley. The 2 Brits that own this place has done an impeccable job in brining this property back to life. And the wines are quite good as well. Felipe was so helpful and took great effort to ensure we had a lovely stay. And the day staff, although they did no speak English well, was also tentative to our needs. From the moment of arrival we knew that this was a place to relax and unwind. Nestled in the Douro Valley and spread over several acres the Quinta has the feeling of staying in your own little private village, the properties are scattered around the grounds and as you take a stroll you encounter the various other accommodations all centered near the main house. We stayed in the Boedeaux house at the top of the hill, it was very secluded with wonderful views of the countryside. Our room/apartment felt very luxurious with all of the modern facilities, in front of the house was a shared swimming pool for use by the 4 sets of guests on that part of the property although we basically had it to ourselves. A wander through the vineyard is a must, there were delicious grapes, oranges, apples, tomatoes and a splendid persimmon tree ripe for the picking. A look inside the private chapel is a must while you ponder the nearby grotto. However what made our stay extra special were the great staff, they were attentive to every need and nothing was too much trouble everything from check in to departure went very smoothly.…

Super clean, well appointed and excellently maintained hotel. Beautiful views of the valley and Douro river. We had two large king sized rooms with own access to the pool. Staff were very friendly and helpful - especially the evening porter, who had to stay back for our very late arrival. The hotel has it's own working winery and the wine was really good and reasonably priced for a hotel. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately no lunch or dinner were available due to staff shortages , but the overall experience more than made up for this slight inconvenience. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I stayed on the b&b basis using the Quinta as a base to explore the Douro Valley. Very comfortable accommodation, continental breakfasts were superb, garden and views oustanding. Filipe, Tatiana and Vania couldn't do enough for us and I can't recommend it highly enough. Hopefully the Quinta will be able to label their wine soon and not be delayed further by local bureaucracy! All in all just a wonderful experience.

... not as good for families. Very beautiful and would make a romantic retreat but I have concerns about the wobbly bannister in our self catering apartment (kids have been told not to lean on it at any cost) and whilst there is a lovely pool outside our house, the neighbouring guest's dog is very vocal towards our little boy and with all sunbeds taken by them, lying on the grass which their dog has used as a toilet is unappealing (the dog has also swam in the pool which personally I don't like). The house itself is clean and rustic but with most of it being basement level, feels very confined, particularly as we are wary of using the outside space. The views around the quinta and the gardens are absolutely stunning but we probably wont return.

My first stay in a Quinta and it was very relaxing. The room was very clean characterful with a huge en suite overlooking the pool and valley; a great view at all times but especially in the early morning. The poolside is quiet and relaxing. The location demands that you have a car to access the town and restaurants and is an ideal point from where to explore the Douro Valley. The staff members are welcoming and really helpful, providing suggestions for restaurants and routes.

This is by far the best hotel we have stayed in for a long time in Europe. The accommodation was immaculate, the service and help of the staff was first rate. The hotel has a number of different rooms and public areas which are all beautifully furnished and decorated. The breakfast room is next to the immaculate kitchen and is fresh and carefully prepared. The swimming pool overlooks the Doura Valley it is idyllic. We could not fault this hotel

We stayed on the estate for two wonderful nights courtesy of Adrian and his staff. This place is utterly charming and a perfect location to step out of the hustle and bustle. The accommodation we had was ground floor room overlooking the pool. Very clean and roomy with a perfect view over that part of the Douro valley. The staff.. Adriane the manager speaks great English but better than that he's a gent and calmly reassuring with a very welcoming attitude. His two girls who operate the kitchen and house were really friendly. You are free to wander the estate and take in the ambience if the place. They are halfway through building a development with a bar and restaurant and wedding centre hopefully to be completed by May next year. Given what we experienced I can only see this being very successful. Resende is a bustling town with a few good restaurants including Gentlemens, just 6 minutes drive from the Quinta. The estate is 75 minutes from Porto and ideal for a relaxed weekend. …

We decided to take the old National Highway from Porto and followed the Douro River valley. We punched in the address for Quinta do Outeiro and started driving with settings to avoid freeways. Some of the roads were kind of scary but the views of the valley were stellar. We finally arrived at the hotel after a very narrow back road but we were treated to a beautiful little hotel with lovely gardens, an awesome pool and magnificent views of the valley. Our room was well-appointed with great air conditioning, a comfortable bed, and a huge bath. We enjoyed some wine and cheese in the treehouse looking over the valley at sunset. Could not be more relaxing, romantic and delightful. A true gem!

We spent a week here in a beautifully appointed self-catering apartment. We enjoyed the overall ambiance of this impeccably maintained estate, which overlooks the lovely and peaceful Douro River valley. The manager Adriano was warm and always helpful. We loved this place.
