Alarm bells started ringing as we where being showed to our "Roof Space" room. "Be careful of the step", "mind you don't trip", "watch your head" and so on and so forth. The room was in need of some serious maintenance, with screechy door handles and badly fitting doors. The hand basin lights consisted of two loose fitting unshaded bulbs positioned directly in the centre of the mirror which when switched on only served to glare one's vision. The bed was the worst we had experienced during our three week trip, very hard with a mattress which sloped from both sides in towards the centre. The whole place had a feeling of being old and unloved and in need of some serious up-dating. We where so disappointed after reading previous good reviews that we left before breakfast.
Stop off about an hour south of Calais. Our second trip here and host Fanny made us incredibly welcome again! We were caught up in the Eurotunnel delays and so arrived over three hours late after midnight and this was not a problem - we were still greeted with a warm welcome and a comfy bed! Brilliant French breakfast the next day with croissants, boiled eggs, homemade jams and yummy bread! She now even serves Yorkshire Tea too! We shared a room with 4 single beds - myself, husband and 8 year old and 9 year old kids! They loved all the owls in the breakfast room and playing in the garden! Short stop off from the motorway and easy to get going the next day! If your and after good French hospitality come here! We love it!
Just returned from a short trip to France and stayed two nights at this excellent B & B just a relatively short drive from junction 5 on the A26 . We had two rooms, one twin and one double, both were well appointed and comfortable, plenty of hot water in the shower. The continental breakfast was very substantial with many variaties of home made jams, The owner was very friendly and made us all really welcome. We also booked an evening meal on our first night. three courses with wine plus aperitif to start, all very tasty and beautifully presented. Would be more than happy to stay again if in the area.
We stayed here for one night on our way back to Calais, it's just 1.5 hours drive on the D Roads to Eurotunnel. Very welcoming and friendly owner. We had tea in the garden and a choice of rooms. Breakfast was taken in the main house, and our room had ensuite and tea making facilities too. Lovely rural setting in a small village. Eassy to find from the village and set on a quiet road, ample parking available. The local Restaurants are a drive away but roads are quiet!
We have stayed here with our family, on our own and also with a group of friends from our village over the last 20+ years. We really look forward to our stay. Fanny, who has taken over from Gina (her mother in law), gives one a really warm welcome accompanied by a glass of wine or beer. Everybody (multi national - can be English, French, Dutch etc.) gathers at 7.30 for a pre-dinner drink and nibbles. Then one is offered an excellent meal, freshly cooked and accompanied by plenty of wine. Breakfast again offers plenty of choice from boiled eggs to a typical French breakfast. The bedrooms are cosy and well appointed with tea & coffee available. It is a delight to stay there.
