What a room! We had the loft apartment which was basically a huge self catering suite packed with weird and wonderful modern art!! Completely at odds with the rest of the building but great fun... Didier was a charming and knowledgeable host who made us feel really at home on arrival and immediately recommended an excellent restaurant in the next... More

Didier Rousseau, the owner of the Manoir de la Peylouse, to give it its full name, has lived in this splendid house for thirty years and knows its history and that of the many famous people who have passed through its doors, from Field Marshal Douglas Haig to Daniel Halèvy (Marcel Proust's publisher) to poets from the Great War and... An amazing and fascinating house with an extensive garden. A warm welcome from Didier and plenty of information about the house, its past and excellent suggestions for dining out which Didier had booked for us before we arrived. A variety of rooms - we were in a large room, comfy bed, large bathroom and small sitting room alongside. Others in... More

We couldn't have picked a better location of our WW1 battlefields tour, especially as unknown to us the owner is an expert, and to top it all Gen Douglas Haig lived here during the war. The welcome was lovely. I'm in a quandary about this place because we loved it, but it does fall short of excellent. I think rather... More

A superb old house with welcoming hosts. Nothing is a trouble to them. The room was clean and full of features and a perfect view of the river and park. We did not get to meet the horse dog as it has passed away, shame we like dogs. The history of the house is well known by the owners and... More

An elegant suite in a very grand house. Full of interest - art, books, the furniture and decorations. Extremely stylish. A gorgeous garden view from our rooms. We were greeted nicely, and the hosts were very genial, telling many tails of the house and the area. One night was not enough.

A wonderful welcome awaited us at La Peylouse, from Didier and Luce. The Manior has lots of history, and Didier is very informative, and of both First and Second World Wars. Very comfortable room, and lovely breakfast. Luce and Didier, recommended and booked for us some superb restaurants in the area. Beautiful gardens. We will be returning to this fantastic... More

A warm welcome for our second visit from Luce, Remy and of course Betsy their hound. First time with my sons, second time with my girlfriend, superb stays both times. A wonderful chateau on the edge of a small rural town, set in it's own substantial grounds including gardens and small lake, right by the river Lys. This is not... More

If you don't like dogs as big as small horses, if you don't like sigaretsmoke of the owners in your room (thus in your clothes) but if you do like à nice and fresh breakfast, you should not go to La Peylouse. If you don't mind all of the above, you like beautyfull gardens, spacious lofts and owners who like... More

We were looking for something a bit out of the ordinary as a base for a day touring the WW1 battlefields and thought the La Peylouse looked interesting. So it proved. La Peylouse is a charming manoir in a beautiful garden/park alongside the river Lys. The house itself has a rich history and has been visited or occupied by many... More
