Visited the Royal Oak with friends for the curry night and we were not disappointed. We were given huge plates with a selection of curries, naan bread, popadom, onion bhaji and dips plus a drink for only £15. Fab value for money and the food was exceptional. Lovely warm friendly atmosphere as always.

I had a wonderful stay here at the end of last year. The team are super welcoming and ensured I had a great time. The room was very comfortable. The evening meal and breakfast was fantastic. The pub has a great atmosphere. Super dog friendly and they made us very welcome. My dog was very well looked after and had a blast. Thanks to Lea and Spencer for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

We have been repeat customers for many years which in itself shows how much we love the Royal Oak.Ideal location, beautiful pub with excellent accommodation and superb food.We have to say the most friendliest Inn we have ever known. Spencer the owner has a great sense of humour and always ensures his guests have a first class experience. This is our second Christmas here and we will hopefully be booking for next year before we leave. Can't think of anywhere better to be at this time of the year. Their lovely dogs Zena and Wally always make us very welcome when we arrive. Well done Royal Oak and all their lovely staff. Thank you again and a Happy New Year to All.

We were a family of 10 who had our Christmas lunch at The Royal Oak and couldn’t have been happier. The food was outstanding (best roast we have ever had out), the service was first class. Julie, Lottie and the other kitchen and waiting staff went out of their way to make everything so special. We had 2 members of our party who have allergies and, rather than doing what most restaurants do when serving the food, which is to call out the meals their by their contents, they took the trouble to learn the customers’ names and call them out when serving making them feel so much better than they do when being identified by their allergies. They also managed to provide substitutes for these people when a particular item on the menu was’t suitable. Everyone deserves an enormous well done!! Thank you for everything you did on the day.

What a place! I am a particular person and everything about this pub was 5 Star! The food was perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning and not dry, nor under the lights too long to dry it out. The service was perfect. The timing was enough to allow you to fully study the menu. The wine list was varied and diverse. I would go back here time and again, cannot recommend this place enough. Well done to the landlord and his well trained staff.

An appalling experience rather than a quiet get away for the weekend. We were not informed beforehand that the day we booked to arrive was when the pub hosted a wake, with 100s of guests. This was even though the pub said they knew on the Thursday before our arrival on the Saturday. There was nowhere to sit all afternoon or evening and we felt very unwelcome. Our room was directly above the bar with music and noise going on until 1am. Unfortunately we also missed breakfast that ended at 9:15, quite early for a Sunday, especially after a sleepless night. The room was cold on arrival and in the morning. We did tell the manager that our experience was not up to expectations and eventually they promised a voucher for an another night's stay. The voucher was never given to us and to be honest having our evening meal cost refunded would have been better as we have no intention of returning again. It would have taken very little effort to have warned us of the party and at least we would have been able to make an informed decision as to whether we stayed or not.

Response from Julie Taylor, General Manager at The Royal Oak Inn

Good Evening, I am some what surprised by your review, I personally spoke to you or your partner/friend,Ill point some facts for you, it wasn't eventually a voucher was promised, I took the first opportunity to catch you to offer the voucher for a stay in the royal oak suite when you checked out. You also returned for lunch on the Sunday and my manager spoke to you to ask what time you would be leaving so she could print off the voucher for you rather then email it to you, you left without seeing her. You also sat in the restaurant in the evening of your stay for your supper. The voucher offer is still available for you If you would like the voucher please drop me an email. Regards Spencer

My wife and I popped in for an evening meal whilst staying in the area for a few days not really knowing what to expect. We started by sharing a charcuterie board which in fairness could have served 4 people such was the generosity of the portion size! It was delicious! We then both opted for pork loin off the specials board which was served with a black pudding bonbon, dauphinois potato and roasted shallot. Also delicious! The food was excellent as was the beer and the staff were great too! Would highly recommend and will return if we are in the area again.

Delicious Sunday lunch with excellent and friendly service. Food is generous and full of flavour, wine much appreciated. Cauliflower cheese particularly good. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, felt well looked after, and will definitely come back.

We liked food & atmosphere at Royal Oak so much we returned 3 times during our week's holiday. We especially liked the homemade fishcakes & quality meats. The sharing chacuterie board was also favourite. Very friendly team & outstanding pub food. Highly recommended.

Would give more stars if we could. Absolute hidden gem of a place. Beautiful old pub, fabulous food, comfy rooms and great staff, we really couldn't have asked for anything more. Super dog friendly, stunning walks straight from the door, friendly and caring service.
