The pool was amazing with plenty of sun beds beds. The water slides were fantastic. However that’s where the amazing stops. The staff spoke very little English so communication was hard and with only one English person (who was the other amazing thing, he was so helpful) our block of pitches lost electricity one evening and we found it hard to communicate with anyone that we had a problem, reception was shut and no one was available and if it hadn’t been for Richard who was enjoying his evening off in the bar on site I don’t know what we’d have done.

The facilities were mediocre the on-site shop wasn’t big, the bakery was expensive and not very fresh even though we got there really early. Thankfully the shops in the village were better quality but it did mean we had to go off site every morning.

The sizes of the pitches varied. We were staying together with other family and my sister in laws family pitch next door to ours pitch was 130 where as ours was 180 (premium pitches were meant to be over 150m square and that’s what we paid for and expected) we have put in a complaint about that so we will find out the outcome of that.

We went for a little walk around the site though and were glad to be on our side of the site as the other side was so cramped with really bad facilities. We were also unimpressed with the toilets shutting at 11pm with no outside toilets. I can’t imagine the inconvenience for families with small children or weak bladders

The bar was disappointing at first, understaffed with non speaking staff. When they hired a few new people it ran a bit better. There was very little shade available for the tables even the tables more covered ended up in full sun as the afternoon continued. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very expensive but the food was lovely. However due to our location we kept having to swap seats so that the children and older members of our group could have protection from the sun.

Overall a disappointing holiday as we thought the site would be better quality although the off camp area was brilliant with lots of little markets nearby. I’m sorry to leave this review as the water park was so amazing it just needs a bit more thought for the rest of the complex.

To be totally honest, I was very very concerned about coming here after the horrendous reviews - I can deal with boring but I can’t deal with dirty or dangerous

However we were positively surprised
Yes the pools are great - and thank goodness for the indoor pool as the weather dipped while we were there

The takeaway at the pool bar was ok - not terrible queues and a variety including poke bowls and goat cheese pizzas. We were the last week of the season so I can imagine in the peak of summer it could have been too crowded

Our caravan (Eurocamp) was much cleaner and newer than many other camps we’ve stayed in, and it was the basic model! It included a coffee machine, dishwasher and kettle, also two double doors leading outside

Sadly the tree rope activity was broken, and the archery had finished, but we enjoyed the free mini golf and €5 tennis

It wasn’t my favourite camp for sure but it certainly wasn’t nearly the worst by a long shot

Check in was easy and straightforward at the main reception and the Eurocamp employee talked through where everything was on site.

We stayed in 451 which is a Comfort Vista caravan. It was clean and fairly modern. It included a microwave/oven, dishwasher and a coffee machine along with a TV (only French channels). The outdoor area for the caravan was great, two lots of double doors leading out to furnished decking area, parking next to the van along with a small garden area.

The site has a lot of activities to offer inc. the pools, free mini golf, table tennis, football and volleyball. My kids spent most days at the pool as they loved the slides. There is a games room near the bar area with pool & table football etc.

The snack bar seemed very expensive for what it is, a burger and chips for £14.00, we decided not to use it. There were lengthy cues for the snack bar and often a wait at the bar due to there only being one person serving, however they were always polite and helpful.

The nearest town is only a 5 minute drive away where there is a large supermarket on the outskirts or a small one in the town centre. Plenty of bars and restaurants there as well.

All in all we really enjoyed this park and will be looking to return next year. It is good value for money.

What a great site, we stayed in a one month old 3 bed static with AC and an amazing outdoor lounge space. The park was lovely, really clean, not a spot of litter, the bin area was clean and washed down regular (something that a lot of sites just ignore) We had takeaway a few times from the cafe, burger and pizza. The pool area in August was BUSY, way to many people for sun loungers, the staff did try and move towels that had been left to 'claim' a space every once in a while, the other problem with the pool is the shade, the umbrellas are fixed to the floor, you cant move them and again, not enough. We had lovely 30+ degree weather. The intermarche is just down the road and is your normal supermarket for France and has most things you will need.

Dear Chris, It's a great pleasure to read your opinion! Thank you for your comments, which mean a lot to us. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the takeaway options from our cafe, especially the burgers and pizzas. However, we do apologize for any inconvenience you faced at the pool area. We understand the importance of a relaxing pool experience, and we'll take your feedback into consideration, particularly regarding the issue of available sun loungers and fixed umbrellas. We appreciate your choice to stay with us and hope to welcome you back for another enjoyable visit. Best regards, The team at Château de Fonrives

The pools here were fantastic. The entertainers at the pools were good, slides etc. This is where we ended up spending most of our time.
The accommodation was absolutely fine. It could have been cleaner but with the option to save 70 euro and clean it yourself, it's not going to be as clean as if it's professionally cleaned. Some of the mattresses were quite worn and uncomfortable.
Unfortunately there were too many other things that didn't work for us and so we definitely wouldn't go back.
We usually use the kids club a lot on holidays. Our daughter made two attempts to go. As the staff had no English, she felt very left out and found it upsetting. I know we were in France, but any other kids club we've ever used have always catered to English speaking kids. On the second attempt my husband went with her and asked if anyone spoke English. One staff member did and said she would translate everything, but she worked with the younger kids and left to work with them straight away so our daughter was left again not knowing what was happening. We collected her early and stopped bothering.
Overall it was generally luck of the draw if a staff member spoke English.
When we booked it there was a restaurant and a snack bar available. In the meantime we got an email to say the restaurant had closed so that left the snack bar. We also have a young toddler and we didn't want to leave every night so we decided to stick with the snack bar which worked out for two of our five nights. On our 3rd night they ran out of pizza and burgers, and the following day they ran out of nuggets (that's all my kids would eat as the menu is basic and very poor quality). We checked every night and over the next three nights they never restocked. I felt so sorry for the person taking orders. She had to take orders, heat up crepes and waffles (the menu is all heat up stuff), make drinks and run the ice cream bar. The opening hours of the snack bar were quite limited too. There was a definite understaffed vibe throughout the camp.
The shop was very basic. In our five nights we never saw any fresh fruit or veg. If you got their by 9/9.30 you could get fresh bread and pastries.

What a shame, this place could be fabulous. Having driven 500km from Spain today we feel cheated, the campsite shop had next to nothing in it, couldn't even get a baguette, we decided to eat in the restaurant - but there wasn't one! A takeaway where we spent 50 euros on an overcooked small steak and dried up fish and chips, we had to clear our own tables, not a problem - but shouldn't have to at these prices.
The pools were ok and very busy, the bar and takeaway empty, obviously people had had the same experience as us.
Tomorrow we have to find a supermarket as the campsite is not able to cope with visitors needs.
Such a shame to write this, but this place needs a shake up, we have visited 20+ campsites in the Dordogne and this one is well below par

Avoid!!!! This campsite was by far the worst we have ever stayed in in our many years of camping in France!!
There are young people/ teenagers yelling/ screaming and playing REALLY loud music until past 1am every night. We have complained every day, and assured by staff that security would patrol, but security have been sitting in their cars when we have gone looking for them late at nights night - when the offenders have become aggressive when asked to be quite by us personally. The toilets are also dirty, and the service is generally poor.

Excellent check in, attentive Staff (on hand all time).

Park excellent, good amenities , basic shop, snack bar.

My boy (13) lives for football so was a godsend that there was a 5 a side pitch on site. He made some new French buddies along and had a great time.

Pools/Slides fun, however our 2 week visit (19th Aug) was extremely busy and it was difficult to get a sunbed most of the time.

Stayed in a 'Azure Lounge' - 3 bedroom mobile home, and it was a luxury to have Aircon for our duration of the Holiday. Accommodation was spotless on arrival, and was extremely well equipped.

As restaurant was closed there are a few restaurants in nearest village (Villeréal) which is approx 3.3km. Same distance is an Intermarché which stocks everything you may need for your stay if planning to eat in, however also has a fuel station if you need to fill up.

Was a blessing to have car with us as there are some beautiful villages around the area.

All in all an excellent stay and I would like to visit again in the near future.

We had a holiday at Chateau de Fonrives last summer. We booked through Eurocamp who advertised the site as being in the Dordogne. However, when we got to the Chateau we were surprised that it was not actually in the Dordogne. It is in a different region call "Lot". Some days we were having to drive 2 hours to get to attractions in the Dordogne that we wanted to visit and were surprised they were so far away.
We wrote to eurocamp to complain and they have given us £150 towards our next booking with them.
We think it is unfair for Eurocamp to advertise this as a Dordogne campsite as it is not actually in the Dordogne.
Apart from this the site and facilities were okay.

Dear Daniel, Thanks for having taken the time to express your disappointment. Sorry to read that you did not appreciate the localisation. This campsite is located in the very north of the Lot-et-Garonne department, on the border with the Dordogne. The Dordogne is quite large and there may be some driving involved depending on the sites you wish to visit. Some are close by, others a little less so. On each campsite page of our website, we make sure to indicate the address, the GPS coordinates and the distances to the surrounding towns. We are nevertheless delighted to read that you enjoyed the campsite and hope to introduce you to new destinations. Best regards

Had a fantastic week here, stayed with eurocamp and was very grateful for air con (definitely worth paying for accommodation with it if going in the summer!) Everyone on site was welcoming and friendly speaking English and French. The pool was busy but we could always find loungers and shade as required. The slides were a huge hit with my 2 children. The shop was fine for little bits including delicious fresh bread and croissants each morning but the supermarket was less than 5 mins drive. Bouncy castle was great fun, playground well shaded so children could use in the afternoon. Would highly recommend!
