Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed at Koue Manor recently for a wedding. I had a wonderful time. It is steeped in history and there are many interesting facts about it. The main house has rooms full of memorabilia and lots of nooks and crannies. The weather was wonderful too however the whole place was infested with wasps(apparently it’s normal) this did not detract from any enjoyment of the day. The food was fabulous as was the breakfast. The staff were friendly and so helpful. It really was a truly fantastic experience. I will say that I would not rate this a 5star hotel, not by English standards but it is very nice. It is quite isolated but good for a base if you wanted to explore the Estonian countryside and are interested in its history. The Manor was formerly the home of a king.

Just got back, after staying at this hotel for a wedding, an all I can say is amazing. The staff were great, and really accommodating to all of us, with the copious amounts of drink orders, an small other bits, nothing was too much trouble at all. The hotel itself was great, personally loved the feel of the place, an all the different styles in the different rooms an throughout the main building. The food was absolutely amazing, an could of eaten it for days, all the different ingredients worked and nothing was left. Bottom line, amazing people, amazing hotel, amazing food, amazing memories

Disappointment at the booking stage. My booking details: booked deluxe suit room for 420 eur, received an email confirming arrival and departure dates, confirmation number and ext. On next day hotel inform me that they sold out this dates to somebody else and offer to choose other dates. No apologies, no bonuses, no good price offers, not a thing. Good receptionist skills impact an entire hotel.

Luxurious, peaceful, relaxing, amazing, cozy. Ideal place to charge your batteries. Batak room recommended for romance. I didn’t have an idea that Kõue mõis is so incredible. I will come back here any time soon.

The history of the manor dates back to the 1700's and over the centuries declined to a roofless ruin. The current owners Mary and Eerik have done a wonderful job to restore the manor to its former grandure although the effort of upkeep shows here and there. The furniture and collections on display cover a huge range of cultures and historical context. There are approx. 12 rooms in the main manor ( these are the ones with character) and about another 6 in an adjoining building that also houses a very good sauna and swimming pool on the lower floor. There is no TV but lots of reading rooms and material to while away the evening after dinner, or chat with other guests. Service is excellent, attentive and professional and the manor keeps the front desk open 24 hours to attend to any guest needs that may arise, no matter the hour. The restuarant is very good and the included breakfast was outstanding. The rooms in the manor house are comfortable ( great bed) and of sufficient size to be comfortable. Spotlessly clean and everything we expected Personally I would not rate the Kau as 5 star but a good quality 4 star hotel. The extensive grounds and gardens would be a picture in spring and summer ( they were snow covered in early March when we stayed but the white snow had its own attraction)

The manor has a very intresting collection of valuable exhibits and the overall interior leaves a posh and galant feeling. They also have a little cute bearded dragon. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and even though they don't offer vegan food the chef made a vegan meal just for me :)

We had a perfect stay in this magnificent and unique mansion. We were welcomed as warm as old friends and the whole personell was great and attentive. They knew a lot about the manor and about the vintage decorations, so we got a pleasent guided tour as well. The restaurant 8 legs was romantic and the food delicious. We appreciate manors´creative and peaceful atmosphere highly and recommend this mansion to those, who want to experience something special....a stay in "wonderland". Until the next time!

The Manor is nicely done, trendily decorated and looks very welcoming. But something is not working, leaves you just a bit disappointed. The staff do their best, though their best does not live up to the promise that the set up gives you. They are nice but not as proactive - or active - as you would wish. The food on dinner is nice, but not quite perfect - the too well done medium steak there, the over done vegetables here. Small let downs continue in the room: nowhere to put down your things in the bathroom - which is decorated beautifully, but not in any user friendly way. The bedside table is beautiful - but there is only one on one side! The lamps are Ok, but only one out of two works. And the music! Wrong style all around! The cheap sax instrumental versions of world hits did not hit the mark! What is wrong with good old classical Chopin or piano jazz? The whole experience can somehow not live up to the expectation that the beautifully decorated manor gives.

We stayed a for one night during a weekend in October for a couples weekend away. We were greeted on arrival by a friendly receptionist who showed us too our room. We had selected the Louis (something) room in what appeared to be an old stable block. The room was wonderfully decorated and they had paid careful attention to how the room was decorated and laid out. The addition of a balcony was fantastic even in winter to sit and feel closer to nature. The bathroom was good with the usual amenities provided. A few issues with the room: no iron/ ironing board provided so had to walk to reception to ask for this to be provided as there is no phones in the room, it’s a very old room with beams and lots of uneaten surfaces making it hard to clean everywhere but some of the high up surfaces such as beams etc were very dusty. Also the room is at the top of a staircase/ long corridor so everyone going to their rooms has to walk past (sometimes rather loudly) your room. Another issue is that it is directly above the spa. So when people are using the showers below you (I think it she showers I can’t be sure) the noise can disturb you. If like us you were unlucky enough to be staying during the same weekend as a few families with small children then the screaming as they run around the pool can be quite tiresome at 8am Sunday morning as you can hear it all. The library is a wonderful addition to the hotel with many many books but again it’s spoilt by children treating it as a play room with no adults in sight running around shouting. One big recommendation for the hotel is to maybe make the weekends child free or at least have parents take responsibility. I understand they want time to themselves as-well, but maybe leave the children at home and not have them running free ruining other people’s alone time? Dinner was included in our package as was drinks (although we were not offered any or told what drinks were included) so we ordered a bottle house wine and it turns out this was not included. The waitress was absolutely fantastic and very informative and all round an absolute credit to the hotel. She managed to answer all of the questions about food and her wine suggestions were super. She also gave us a quick tour of the old cellar when she wasn’t running around working hard. The food was fantastic, but there is something to be said about the atmosphere. I wouldn’t suggest eating in the main dining room as the atmosphere is pretty much non existent. People were afraid to speak it was that quiet, and the music was more suitable for a funeral home. Incidentally the music that was at breakfast would be more suited to dinner and dinner music for breakfast, maybe someone got the cd’s the wrong way around? After dinner we retired to the smoking room to finish our wine and have a game of chess and a cigar. Someone should check the smoking room more often as we had to find a waitress to order our cigars. And when you turn the music up in the hotel/ restaurant be weary of the level in the cigars room as it’s a small room and when turned up uncomfortably loud. Maybe consider a superstar system? Breakfast was plentiful and restocked often with a huge selection of different food and fruits/ cereals. Also it’s evident that the pastries are freshly made, the chefs really are a testament to the hotel. Overall these are just small points the stay in itself was incredible and the rooms absolutely exquisite with wonderful food in a truly magical setting in a wonderful part of rural Estonia. I would absolutely return.

Response from Alice_Liivak, Front Office Manager at Kau Manor
Responded 9 Nov 2017
Dear James! Thank you for your kind and detailed feedback. We are very happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay at Kau Manor and that you appreciated the unique ambience of our rooms and the hospitality of our team. We have passed on your kind words to our kitchen and restaurant workers who are indeed real assets to our historical house. As we strive to exceed our guests' expectations and create memorable experiences we greatly appreciate you taking the time to bring the following matters to our attention and apologize for any inconveniences they may have caused. Regarding our guest rooms, due to their unique and detailed features, the Coach House rooms have some very hard to reach areas such as the high beams. We have however increased the routine checks to make sure these are taken care of and stay clean in the future. The hotel is a wonderful retreat hence there are no telephones in the rooms but we do have our contact details in our guest room directory and complimentary WiFi which I believe was missed and not pointed out to you upon arrival. Our administrators are always on hand to deliver an iron and ironing board to your room. We like to be a family-friendly hotel and it is unfortunate that you were disturbed during your stay. Our reception team would always be happy to advise you on more secluded rooms or dates when we are relatively quiet. We also take on board your note regarding noise in the morning in your room above the Sauna and we will now mention to early morning sauna visitors to be aware of this. Also you mentioned you were unsure of the contents of the romantic package. We do send a description of what is included with our confirmation e-mail (in this case it was the bottle of Prosecco upon arrival in the room). Our team is always happy to answer questions regarding packages and we will be double checking this is followed up once again to all guests upon arrival. Also thank you for your note regarding service in the Cigar room. Due to Estonian law we offer self-service in our Cigar Room and waiting staff enter only upon a customer’s request. They can also adjust the volume of the music according to the wishes of our guests. Keeping your feedback in mind we have now adjusted our signage in the Cigar Room so it is more visible for our visitors to avoid further misunderstandings. We are very pleased to hear that despite those issues you have been impressed by the Estonian countryside, local food and setting and would visit us again in the future. You are always welcome here at Kau Manor! If you wish to discuss anything in more detail please do not hesitate to get in touch directly with our General Manager Richard Barnwell at richard.barnwell@kau.ee Kind regards, Alice Liivak Front Office Manager

Rooms in the main building are huge and full of art and vintage pieces. There is a well furnished smoking room. The sauna is 60 m away. The library is 24/7 accessible with ancient and modern books. The staff can help you - just ask!
