Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Stifford Hall Hotel emerges as a well-regarded destination, particularly for its picturesque location convenient for special occasions and its array of praised amenities, including event spaces and dining. While opinions on value vary, with some guests finding the prices reasonable, others feel the cost does not reflect the worth.
The hotel's atmosphere draws compliments for its tasteful decor and comfort, although a few find it basic. Service is often highlighted as attentive, complementing the hotel's cleanliness and comfortable rooms, despite some remarks about dated interiors and slow service at times.

Detailed Reviews
Although characterless the room was very clean and amenities adequate. On the day we were there it was hot and sunny so the shaded patio was more than welcome, very stylish and surrounded by well kept grounds. The constant humming in the distance of the nearby A13 was a little irritating. our fob access to the courtyard room entrance failed so the receptionist let us in and informed us the the Battery needed changing. It was still in the same condition 12 hrs later when yet again we had to be let in by a staff member. Those two minor issue's apart the facilities and room were fine. Our main gripe is with the dining, which is such a shame as to us they are preventing the Hotel from a more high end rating. Breakfast for example. No Fruit, cereal, pastries only option Full English of Eggs and Salmon. They have the old archaic toaster where you have to que while your food gets cold. Table service toast and Hot drinks would mean you spend more time at your table and with a hot meal. Dinner really needs to step up a gear. Mainly staffed by teenagers (who where doing there best). Tables not set, cutlery delivered after the food, Sauces in throw away sachets, menus on laminated paper, food and prestation very average. all bring the restaurant down a notch. Employing a Matradee for a more personal touch, Sauces in Ramakins etc are simple quick fixes. When booking a weekend break as a special treat we fell the dining experience needs to be more 4 star rather than a café.

Dear pineapplemickamanda Thank you for your review, I am sorry you felt breakfast was to a poor standard. We are currently reviewing our offering and we will slowly add to our offering however, we are very cautious in returning to a full buffet style service and have maintained most of our covid rules. I am sure you can appreciate a number of our staff not, dissimilar to most hotels have had to employ and train new hospitality team members who are having to react very quickly to the opening of the hospitality industry and as a result and having to undergo training very quickly. Kind Regards, Stuart Friell

I recently attended a family garden party for a 50th birthday, having not stayed here before, or anywhere since lockdown had been lifted my anxiety was a little high, what can I say, I arrived and from the very first moment I was made to feel safe and at ease, the measures for sanitising and social distancing were well executed and instructions were visible and easy to follow. The receptionist was lovely, scanned my temperature and advised me of the new Covid procedures, I checked into my room, which was lovely, very clean and comfortable with good decor.
The event itself was fabulous, well staffed and everyone followed distancing, bar staff and catering team were very pleasant and attentive. The grounds were beautiful, particularly the pagoda and the terrace which had been beautifully dressed for the occasion, we had a wonderful evening and felt very safe.
Breakfast the next morning was beautiful, well served and extremely tasty.
Again all staff were extremely attentive and helpful.
This is an absolutely beautiful hotel, all needs were catered for, it was extremely Covid safe and all of the staff I encountered were well trained, well mannered and professional.
This is a definite on my list of places to re-visit, it’s location is fabulous, just on the edge of a pretty village and a stones throw from Lakeside should I have wanted to go shopping.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, I’ll see you soon 😊

Stayed here for two nights for a family funeral. Staff were professional and the hotel had taken extensive steps to ensure guest safely in the current COVID crisis.
I have to say that our room could have been the centrepiece in an Ideal Home exhibition. It was gleaming. Door handles shone. The grout in the bathroom gleamed. I’ve never stated in such a well cleaned room.
We hadn’t initially booked breakfast based on earlier reviews but decided to have breakfast. Easy to add to the bill and the restaurant was immaculate and well organised. Food was cooked to order and very good. Waitress delivered food to central table and then you collect it from there when called.
Despite the reason for travelling this was a very positive experience and we would happily return.
Value for money was excellent- I paid half the price I would have for a room in a big chain hotel we often use and had a far better experience.

After paying £100 for one night id expect to at least have a sink that drains, the room was very similar to a premier inn just with a smaller bed. We hadnt paid for brekfast but decided to go down and pay, the hostess gladly took our £20 but neglected to tell us half the buffet had ran out and wasnt being replenished. I deffinatly wouldn't recomend staying here.

We stayed at the Stifford Hotel for a family party. The function room is beautifully decorated and it’s lovely that it has direction access to the patio and garden. The food both at the party and the following morning at breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. All of the staff were friendly and attentive and the hotel felt COVID safe with lots of signage and hand sanitiser in the public areas.

Five of us visited yesterday for an overdue post lock down drinks afternoon. I was able to book a table in the patio area which has a new tented roof covering the whole patio.
We had several rounds of drinks and ordered pizzas and fries which were delicious and followed with some lovely desserts.
The staff were great, Amanda, Claire, Rebecca and Amy all very polite. Hand sanitiser was available and we felt that COVID-19 precautions were taken seriously.
All in all a great afternoon enjoyed by all.

Stayed here on business, the hotel is difficult to access from the main road as is kind of tucked away into the corner. After checking in when walked what seemed like forever to the room they had given me a single bed so returned to the reception in which they were very apologetic and gave me a new room, the room they gave me had a broken window that the frame had dropped meaning there was quite a draft, bathroom was really good and modern however the extractor fan was always on and rather loud which was not great, food was decent dining in the large room was strange atmosphere felt empty and a ghost town. Upon leaving was charged a lot extra as the lady behind reception told us that the allowance was £35 however it was actually £25 so overspent a lot meaning had to pay the extra which I was not impressed with however I paid it just because I needed to get away.
Wont be returning.

Dear nicksutton8, Thank you very much for your review. I am sorry that you experienced some shortcomings when you recently stayed with us. I am afraid there is little I can do about the road access we, are as you have mentioned tucked away but, in tranquil grounds away from the noise of the main road. I will certainly investigate the window and extract issues you have mention, please accept my sincerest apologies. Your allowance for food and drink is dictated by your company and not the hotel and in all honesty I would have thought that your company would have made you aware of your meal plan prior to travelling? Kind Regards, Stuart Friell General Manager

Paid for by my company so not too concerned with value, but when the water pressure in your shower means you can't freshen up, that ruins things and overshadows everything. The room was fine, except the shower was useless; the water was trickling out and changing the temp had no effect. Garbage.

Myself and hubby had a free hotel stay through our so picked this hotel as not too far from home for one night. The room was surprisingly nice and had a balcony which was a bonas so my hubby could smoke because the walk to our room from the outside is a mission. We had some drinks in the bar which were severely over priced it was less the half the price 2mins down the round in the pub. We booked to have dinner in the hotel restaurant and we were the only ones in the whole place which was nice but took a while to get a drink. The starters where nice but the mains where very over priced for the quality and quantity of the meal ! My hubby ordered the lamb cutlets which came with some veg and a Yorkshire pudding, he got 2 very lean chops ! I got beef and I got 2 very small pieces of beef with some mash which was so over done with mustard it was inedible. We paid £95 which I think is pretty overpriced for what we were served. I would not recommend eating or drinking here.

Dear Jbw621836997, Thank you for your recent review. I was sorry you did not enjoy your meal and I will certainly share your feedback with my team. Your husband's lamb cutlets with steamed lamb pudding, sprouting broccoli and baby carrots is priced at £15.00 and your beef medallions with cream peppercorn sauce, horseradish mash and glazed baby leeks is priced at £17.00 which, we believe is of good value. I was pleased my chef catered for your unusual request of chips and gravy. Of course we would concede that the local public house may have a cheaper tariff than ourselves which you find with every hotel. We are a full service establishment and price our food and drink in parity to our competition as well as offering a fine dining experience in tranquil surroundings Kind Regards, Stuart Friell General Manager

My girlfriend and I stayed here recently and found the place to be an amazing local getaway.
The hotel itself is located to the rear of a spectacular old hall.
Our room was lovely, with the only thing missing being teas and coffees, but I suspect this is down to Covid-19.
The grounds of the hotel are stunningly kept. There is a large green to the right of the car park and main entrance, with various benches for sitting and a raised wooden platform used for weddings, bands etc.
Inside the main building, as you walk past the sliding doors the reception is to your left, which carries you to the bar and if you follow a short corridor, you will see a separate building housing the hotel rooms.
To the right of reception, a quaint and welcoming Library, complete with aged hardbacks (Treasure Island, anybody) has a lovely traditional fireplace, complete with sturdy leather armchairs. Idillic!
Feeding off the library to the left is the reception room for the main function room. Lovely, black leather sofas and chairs are here for you to sit comfortably while waiting to be seated at your table (during happier, Covid-free times).
The main hall is fabulous. The decor is perfect to serve as a backdrop for both corporate functions and those tying the knot. Truly needs to be visited by anyone looking for a function location.
Finally, we opted for pizza for dinner. We certainly were not disappointed. Luckily we didn't order one each, as the Meat Feast we ordered was certainly that! Huge!! 👍
Overall, a very nice stay.

Dear Stuart M, Thank you for your review. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. You are correct in mentioning that tea and coffee making facilities have been removed due to Covid-19. We have a very robust Covid plan in operation in the hotel and we had to take action to minimise the touch points within the hotel in general. Kind Regards, Stuart Friell
