Myself and my wife stayed here for one night, gifted to us as a wedding present. Whilst it was a gift, and not paid for ourselves, I do think £75 was a bit steep. The room was lovely, but it was quite dusty. Sides and the lamp were quite thick with dust! The shower sealant was quite mouldy. We were also informed we'd have a river view, but the only view we had was to the back of the kitchen and eye contact with staff (from my bed) working out back. Use of the pool was 9-5, however, booking in at 2pm didn't really give us enough time (without feeling rusted) to enjoy that. We were offered to pay £10 each to book in for breakfast which we declined as we had other arrangements for breakfast. However, on the morning we decided we would actually have our breakfast there which we paid for at the bar (instead of the £10 booking price). I'm glad we did it this way, as our breakfast came to a lot less than £20! Aside from the negatives, the staff were very nice, the room was very stylish and accomodating and the twin beds were very comfortable.

My wife and I had one of the small rooms with two single beds. Room was very well appointed and very clean. We both enjoyed a good night sleep. When we arrived we were greeted by Ruby. This young woman was brilliant, she showed us around and made us feel very welcome. Ruby was also on the morning shift and again greeted us for breakfast. It is very refreshing to find somebody who is obviously very enthusiastic about their job and the service they provide customers. Unfortunately, we have found this to be a rare quality in other hotels we have visited in the last 12 months. Breakfast menu was I think typical of this type of accommodation, but it was presented well and we had no complaints. Waveney inn is very good value for money. We have re booked for next month

Now this is a review of two halves, so I’ll get the negatives out of the way first.
The first negative is the room we had ‘Chart Room’ was described as ‘Overlooking the river’, it should have been described as overlooking the workshops, but if you look to the right you can see the river across the car park!
The other negative happened when we decided to eat here on our third night. I did book the first meal before we left home for our first night. At breakfast we were told we didn’t need to book as we were staying in the Inn and not the River Centre. It was only river centre holiday makers that needed to book. I took it that they meant for all meals, but it transpired that it was just breakfast that was guaranteed. We were told that they were fully booked for an evening meal, and there was nothing they could do. The centre and the inn are in the middle of nowhere and accessible by a few single track roads. We didn’t feel like going out again through those roads, especially after we had been out all day.
I asked if there was anything they could suggest, and I was flabbergasted by the reply of ‘Ring Just Eat!!!’
Bearing in mind we are in a room with 1 chair, no table and no cutlery!
Having got the negatives out of the way we had a nice time. The room was comfortable, roomy and clean.
(Most) of the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely place, the setting is perfect. Just those niggles that let it down really in my opinion.

Decided to have a family meal out here, menu was limited, the 5 of us decided what we wanted & ordered our meals at the bar, the meals came out very quickly...wow quick service, we were impressed, but thats as far as that went as now we got to eat our food which we looked forward to all afternoon. omg thats when it all went wrong!! its the dearest microwave meal i have ever had... yes microwaved reheated meal, it was awful, overcooked & tasteless & for £12.00 we will never eat here again, rated 2 stars as the staff were lovely though.

We arrived at 2pm in time for check in. Our room was immaculate and had obviously been completely renewed at the start of the season. Good choice of tea bags, instant coffees etc but no toiletries. The mini shop in the bar area did not have shower gel.
The hand pump (real ale) I saw in a photo of the bar had its pump clip turned round the 4 days we were there. The kitchen closed each day at 4pm. The lovely lady at reception gave us a cycling route to the Toft White Lion but it is closed on a Sunday and the kitchen has been closed since Covid.
Breakfast was an excellent full English (or vegetarian equivalent) but no fruit juice, cereal, yoghurt or fruit. No expresso machine either.
After breakfast we inquired about the ferry to get us across the Waveney, but it wasn't working and wouldn't be for our stay. That was one of the reasons for choosing the hotel so we could walk to the Carlton Marshes Wildlife Trust.
We asked about boat hire, but that started on Wednesday, the day we were leaving.
Google Maps had a cycle route to Beccles, but according to a local cyclist the route was blocked by Edward Haughey Jr at Gillingham hall. We clocked 11 miles on our bikes for journey of 7 and a half miles by car.
The bus stop at Burgh (Borough) St Peter was only 2 miles away but unfortunately there appeared to only be one bus a day.
If you like driving your car every day on holiday then this is a good place to stay.

Room was very nice and a good size. Very clean and bed comfy. Nice selection of teas and coffees. Pleasantly surprised to see towel art in the shape of swans on the bed.
Reception staff very nice and polite and helpful.
Saw a sign by the bar that it was open 8 till late. Wasn't interested in having an evening meal at the hotel so didn't check the menu. Went out to dinner and as driving did not have a drink as the bar was advertised as being open. Arrived back at 8.15 and bar shut.
Breakfast the next morning was just OK. Not a buffet type and only 4 options. Was also offered a oughmans or fish and chips for breakfast. Full English consisted of 1 egg, beans, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, ½ a tomato ,1 mushroom and 2 hash browns. Offered toast or bread and was served one slice of toast.
No information in rooms re what's occurring in the area, breakfast menu and times or evening menu.
Very remote location and so needs info to be able to plan evenings. When we returned - bar closed, no staff to see, TV poor signal. This needs improvement. Will not be returning.

Wonderful library room in the Inn, excellent staff - warm, friendly, couldn't do enough to help. BUT - food very limited for breakfast and dinner , especially if one is staying for a week. The specials didn't change and there was limited choice of mains and deserts.

Lovely situation although to get there you need to go down a single track road with passing places. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Room was large and comfortable with a large wet room. The food was excellent.

A last minute long weekend away. Our room was lovely, although beware of Booking.com! They say it was 'River View', but it isn't! Very quiet and extremely pretty place. The bar does close really early, so if you want to make a night of it bring your own booze. Ask for 2 cards for your room. We were only given one and you have to use this to keep the lights on. The staff were all lovely, Marianne was so nice, professional and helpful too. All in all a lovely stay.

Overall this place was good but it’s getting a 1 star because we left very very annoyed.

The positives:
Nice play area for the kids, friendly staff at the check in desk, clean room, king size bed for us, pull out sofa bed for the kids (which we had to make up ourselves), averagely clean bathroom, loads of tea and coffee options.

What made us hate it:
The restaurant staff.
We ordered a “small” portion of scampi and chips, which was on our menu in our room (both of them) for our 5 year old boy.
Bar boy said there’s not a kids portion of scampi and chips, but I corrected him that we wanted the small portion that’s on the menu.
Paid for our food, sat at a table.

When our mains were brought, 3 huge portions of scampi and chips appear.
We pointed out to Mrs Grumpity Grumpy Grumps that we definitely hadn’t ordered our small 5 year old a huge adult dinner and that there’s no chance he’d eat even half of it.
Instead of offering to reimburse us the difference of the cost of a small, or a child’s portion of food (for a child) ... she argued. She argued, and argued , and argued , and argued.
So, eventually she said she would talk with her management about her/her staff’s error. We said that was probably a good idea sine our food was now getting cold.
We ate. We waited. She never came back.
Mrs Grumpity Grump Grumps was behind the bar, so I cleared our plates and returned them to the bar and asked what the outcome was of her chat.
She said the error wasn’t with the bar/restaurant staff, but with the maids who hadn’t removed the normal menu from our room.
Still refused to reimburse us for charging us for something we did not order.. she argued, and argued and argued.
So, we left. Clearly unhappy.
I then emailed a complaint to management.
I’ve never had a response.

Now, I might sound like I’m moaning over nothing, and it’s not a massive amount of money, but it’s the principle, that we DID NOT ORDER an adult portion of food for our 5 year old, so, we should not have paid for it.

It’s also frustrating to have not even been graced by a response by management.
So, here is my honest review of my experience at a place I will not be returning to.
