Messines is not a real tourist destination, but if you are staying in town you'd be mad to stay anywhere else! The Guesthouse is friendly, clean, comfortable, and cheap, and it is right in the centre of things. Bonus points for the little common area with fridge and cooker if you want to cook (or just keep some beer cold)...

My brother and I were walking the Via Algarviana and ended up spending the night at the Bartholomeu Guesthouse. And the guesthouse is pretty much everything you need in an guesthouse. The rooms are recently renewed and clean, there is a large common area with fridge (great to stock items for the night if you're walking the trail) and there...

This little guest house is right in the town centre. The staff are very helpful and happy to help you. It's very clean and comfortable. It seems to be a meeting place in the café for all the locals, what a great way to see the local community. The food is very good to. Would definitely stay again.

I know this spot as a RESTAURANT/SNACKBAR and must say that is my favorite in this small city. Seizing the end of the day with some snails (caracóis) and some seafood and some beers with friends and family is priceless. Cosy and friendly environment, great food and great staff.

If you want to taste some of the best food in the Algarve, you have to stop here . The staff is very friendly and a very relaxed atmosphere. Do not forget to order a red wine from the Algarve !!! Highly Recommended

This is a town centre hotel with three eating areas that each have a separated character, Café, Dining room and restaurant. Our room (room 1) was large and had windows overlooking the front and side of the hotel. The building itself has been completely modernised as had the bedroom and our stay was enjoyable. No negatives.

We did not stay at the Bartholomeu guesthouse, however we did have lunch and dinner very often here. The food is absolutely great, whatever you order, and trust me, we tried a lot! Sonia and Fabio are very welcoming. So when you stay here, or pass through Messines, please try this place!

After touring the Western Algarve we decided to go inland and read a review for this Guesthouse. What a lucky find. The room, No.1 was quite large and although above the bar, because of the insulation was not too noisy. The owner, Sonia, was very obliging and the food at both dinner and breakfast was very good. Would highly recommend...

Restaurant is open for lunches, olives, bread, choice of several main course and dessert dishes with a drink, all for 7.50 euros. If you go in the evening, try the cataplana, may be best to order the day before. Excellent and the best we have ever had in the Algarve. Plenty of content and lots of flavour. There were five...
