We stayed four nights and could not have had a better yoga/snow vacation. Adorable B&B with tons of charm and detail. Suzie and Pascal were so helpful with their recommendations and made us feel so welcome. Nina is the best yoga teacher!

We arrived at Chalet Chatelet after an amazing drive through the mountains and were warmly welcomed by Suzie. The cow bells were donging on the mountain opposite, the sun was shining and the views were stunning - heaven. Our room was fantastic, with a huge shower in the bathroom and the most comfortable bed. Suzie’s breakfasts were delicious, the local Abondance cheese was so yummy as was the homemade granola. We only wishes we could have stayed longer and have promised ourselves another trip soon. A great location for winter or summer breaks.

Chalet Chatelet is an amazing place to unwind and appreciate the best that this region of France has to offer. From mountain trails, to local wines and cheeses, to first-class skiing, there is something for everyone. Our hosts, Suzie and Pascal, were lovely, offering genuine hospitality and charming conversation. We were four ladies having a "weekend getaway". We wanted a place where we could forget about career stress and the busyness of Geneva. We found it! :-) The chalet is impeccable; not a speck of dust anywhere! The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. We loved the modern fireplace in the evenings, and the bain nordique (wooden hot tub) at 40 degrees Celcius. We will never forget one evening where we soaked in the hot tub underneath the stars, with a gentle snow falling around us. Simply magical. Perhaps the best part was Suzie's homemade cooking. She managed to please our picky group (two vegetarians, one vegan and one gluten-free omnivore) with delicious and innovative dinners, complete with dessert and paired wine. The portions were very generous. All in all, a 5-star experience. I highly recommend this place!

Just had a wonderful week with Suzie and Pascal. The chalet is lovely and beautifully presented and sits in the lovely quite village of Bonnevaux. We went fully catered and Suzie's menu for the week was superb. Absolutely fabulous. The only little thing we missed were boot warmers to help dry the insides of damp boots and gloves. Maybe something to consider. The skiing was good. We were about 15/20 mins away from the main Chapelle De Abondance bubble lift but it didn't matter too much. Pascal took us each morning to the lift and he was always available to pick up, usually from the Le Fer Rouge, Chapelle. A great pub and a gem of a place. A must if visiting the area. We went into the Porte Du Soleil on a couple of occasions which was very straight forward. There were quite a few button lifts to take to get back to Chapelle, so a little tricky and it made it a little hard work but all in all the skiing excellent. All in all a great week. Thank you. Fiona, family and friends

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us Fiona, and we very much appreciate your comments and advice. Normally our radiator does an adequate job on the ski boots and gloves, but we will start saving up to provide a boot warmer! Glad you enjoyed the Fer Rouge and watching the rugby at our local cafe, the Franco Suisse in Abondance as well! We too had a great week. Our best wishes to you all from us both, Suzie and Pascal

We stayed in Chalet Chatelet for 7 nights, and loved it! The Chalet is in a beautiful village called Bonnevaux which is 10 minutes drive from our ski station in la Chapelle-d’Abondance. The Chalet is beautifully decorated with fine and elegant taste. The landscape around the Chalet is just amazing, the kids loved playing with the snow and with the dogs of our hosts. Suzie and Pascal were very welcoming and quickly made us feel like home. Pascal loves his Chalet and is passionate about the fire place which is built with volcanic stone! He was very helpful every time we needed him, we enjoyed his stories and all the information he shared with us about the region. Suzie delighted us every night with delicious meals made with love. We can not recommend Chalet Chatelet enough, we enjoyed every day of our stay. Thank you Suzie and Pascal, wishing you all the best...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. It was a great pleasure to meet you all and we greatly enjoyed being part of your first family ski holiday. We always try to recommend an appropriate ski resort in the Abondance Valley for the level of skiing of our guests, and based on the weather during the past two years in March, felt that Crêt Béni would suit your needs, as it has good snow on the lower slopes. However this year with the fantastic snow all over the Alps, you could have equally gone to our local resort of Abondance, which is just 5 km from the chalet and is also quiet and very beautiful, and has lots of exciting extra activities. You all did so well, no doubt you will soon benefit from the whole of the vast Portes du Soleil! We very much hope to see you and your lovely family on another occasion and send our best wishes to you all too.

We only stayed for two nights in January and wished we could have stayed for longer. Pascal and Suzie were very welcoming and their chalet is a wonderful place to stay. It is situated in a small village and the views of the surrounding countryside are spectacular. We arrived by car and their is plenty of space to park next to the Chalet. Our room was very comfortable and decorated to a high standard. We had exclusive use of the living room as there were no other guests, however, it would easily accommodate a large family or a group of friends. The main feature of the lounge is a magnificent wood burner that Pascal is especially proud of and heated the whole of the first floor. Suzie is a very good ‘chef’ and her breakfasts were the best we have ever enjoyed at a Ski Chalet (over 15 years experience). Pascal was also very helpful and even helped me fix our ski carrier onto our hire car! He even asked us what type of wine we preferred with our evening meal and provided some very nice Cotes du Rhône. We would not hesitate to recommend this Chalet and would like to visit again soon and stay longer.

The combination of mountain air, cowbells and Suzie's greeting takes some beating. In gastronomic terms this is five star accommodation. Supper on the balcony and a breakfast so capacious that one is forced to take energetic exercise subsequently merely to stave off cardiac arrest, let alone to explore the beautiful Abondance valley, views of which tantalise one from the bedroom windows. Suzie's devotion to detail is clear throughout this fine chalet and getting to know her a little adds immensely to the warmth of our memories of our stay with her.

Suzie is a wonderful host, it was a shame that Pascal had been called away. He was with us in spirit. Suzie is kind and considerate and makes you feel warmly welcome. The chalet is a delight, built to a high standard. Spread over three floors the lower floor for Suzie and Pascal. All bedrooms are ensuite, comfortable beds and very warm. Breakfast was a real treat with Suzie homemade granola, and great meal home cooked every evening. The village of Bonnevaux is small, quite and charming. Located in easy access to ski resorts, lake Geneva, and driving to Switzerland and Italy, a good location. We went just as the snow was melting, the countryside is breathtaking great place for hiking, cycling and various other outdoor activities. It is quite, but if you can entertain yourselves young or old this a great place to come and enjoy Suzie and Pascal's company and the energy of the mountains.

The chalet is nice and the concept of a catered chalet lets you really relax during vacations. There are just 4 aspects that I would like to underline: the chalet is pretty isolated (without a car you are pretty much limited); not very kids friendly, but we might have tried with really young kids (4 to 7); the hosts live in the chalet, in a separate apartment but nevertheless in the same building, which can be kind of awkward...; and finally, Susan is a great cook but we were kind of disappointed for only having profited from a true savoie meal during the whole week.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and would have been more concerned about your rating for Chalet Châtelet had you not written such kind words of thanks and appreciation in our Guest Book! However, to expand on your points: 1. Regarding the position of the chalet, which is five minutes from the resort of Abondance, although you went mostly to La Chapelle 10 minutes from the chalet: we go out of our way to describe exactly where the chalet is situated both on our own website and on other websites that promote us, which also have maps to pinpoint the chalet. Our ski holidays are priced accordingly, and very reasonable bearing in mind our high standard of service and facilities. Indeed most of our guests specifically choose the chalet because it is on the edge of a very pretty, authentic mountain village and not in a main resort. But Chalet Châtelet cannot be described as “isolated” since we have a ski bus leaving from the village centre, just 300m from the chalet, and a children’s playground 50m away! A bar/restaurant will soon open in the village, only a 5 minutes stroll up our quiet road. 2. We adore children and have four young grandchildren the same age as those in your group. Our quality antique and retro furnishings are stylish but robust, and we are used to removing any items that could cause a problem. We are well equipped for families and, as you know, provided a travel cot with bedding, a high chair and changing mat for your 6-month-old baby at no charge, neither did we charge the normal supplement for her. Our children’s two-course menu is very carefully thought out to give a balanced, wholesome evening meal and served early, so that parents are free to enjoy a quiet dinner later in the evening. We always check timing with the parents, as we did with you. 3. We live on site because the chalet is our home, thus creating the “home away from home” feeling so often commented on! We make sure that we are unobtrusive while we tend the log burning heating system. We tidy and clean regularly and make sure our guests have everything that they need for their comfort. 4. As I told you when you made the enquiry, being an Anglo/French couple, the weekly adult evening meal menu, also carefully balanced, gives a taste of France, including Savoie, combined with British favourites. A complete weekly menu of different local dishes would be difficult without repetition. Also most of our guests enjoy tartiflette, raclette etc on the mountains at lunchtime, so we would not want to give them the same in the evening. Nevertheless, we always send a booking form asking for any dietary restrictions or preferences, so if you had stipulated on your form that you wanted mostly local specialities such as the above, then we would have specifically adapted our menu accordingly. Luckily, you made a request just in time for us to organise a Mont d’Or fondue and a pierrade before the end of your holiday! Thank you for giving us this opportunity to clarify our position and services, which we hope will benefit future guests.

Not only is the chalet beautiful, but so are the hosts. They are so warm and welcoming, and make a huge effort to get to know their guests, and ensure their comfort. We had such an amazing time getting to know Suzie and Pascal and thoroughly enjoyed sharing dinners with them. It also doesn't hurt that the scenery is breathtaking and Suzie is an AMAZING chef! Thanks for such a warm and enlightening few days, we will most certainly be back!! This property is great for families, including young children. We spent a few nights with all of our friends- when we booked all the rooms, and then stayed a few extra days and there was another couple who arrived. It was a great experience both ways - having the place to ourselves, and sharing it. A car is a must, but there are some lovely drives, hikes and towns nearby.
