We’ve just left the Fairburn and we could have stayed longer. The Staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The Hotel is owned by a couple who live there and as such has the feel of a family run establishment. The rooms are small but have everything you need with plenty of wardrobe space, they are on the main road but traffic didn’t stop us from sleeping in the comfortable bed. There is a beer garden which was a great area to have our 6pm G & T’s, raspberry gin highly recommended. I would advise you to book your table if eating dinner there as the restaurant gets quite busy at night as the food is excellent. Breakfast we had plenty of choice and our scrambled eggs were ‘eggsellent’ Altogether well worth the money.

Great wee hotel. Nicely decorated room with tea/coffee facilities, lovely added extra of disposable slippers. Toiletries also supplied in the modern bathroom. Breakfast was available and you chose what you wanted from a menu left in the room, then handed it into reception. Plenty of choice for selection. Breakfast was fabulous, so tasty, the locally sourced items make a huge difference. Lovely cocktail selection in the bar area too. Staff were all really nice and easy to chat to.

Arrived late due to an unbelievably tricky road trip. Having called ahead the owner/manager had said she’d wait for me to arrive as she lived on premises.
On arrival she was friendly and asked whether, even though the bar was closed, there was anything she could get me which was nice.
The room was fine, with a comfortable bed. They even provided ear plugs in case the very limited village traffic disturbed and slippers should you need. The above bath shower was powerful enough, though the tiles around it could have benefitted from the grout being cleaned up. Might have drank the pre-bottled tap water if not sitting right above the toilet.
Breakfast next morning was very good (traditional Scottish) and the table all set for me when I arrived at pre-arranged time. Again the person looking after things was warm and friendly.
Parking is available at the free public car park down the side of the hotel with no obvious restrictions. Pricing fair. Shame I arrived so late that I didn’t get the chance to enjoy the atmosphere and food in the bar, or look around the area.

Stayed here for a couple of nights as it was handy for a wedding at Sorn Castle. The hotel turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, it just has a few rooms but they are comfortable and came with all the bits you would expect and a few more. Bed was comfortable and although on the roadside we slept well and were not aware of any traffic noise. Breakfast is pre ordered the night before but freshly cooked in the morning good value and great quality. We all ate in the restaurant one night and again were delighted with the choice and quality - the duck and the pasta were both delicious. One of the most outstanding features of the Fairburn is the staff who were so helpful and friendly and made our stay a real pleasure. Parking is in the free car park behind the hotel. If you need a place to stay in the area the Fairburn us a very good choice.

Honestly such a great find. Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming friendly or attentive. They even phoned before our stay to warn us of local event which would cause the town to be extra busy and told us what parking would be closed and alternatives available. This meant we were able to plan and were not stressed on the day trying to get to a wedding on time ! The following day as no taxis were available they even took us back to our car. Definitely above and beyond!

Recently stayed here along with my partner, check in was straight forward and a lovely young girl showed us our room in person. The room itself had everything we needed and was spacious and spotlessly clean . There was everything from toiletries, iron , tea/coffee even a small fan which came in handy during our stay, the bed was also super comfy. We dined in the bar area and the food we had was delicious & well presented , the tattie scone nacho starter are worth trying 👌. Although it was a bit damp outside theres a lovely beer garden for enjoying a drink weather permitting.

Stayed three nights due to business with a local company. The staff was outstanding. Always a smile and wanting to help at every turn. I even met the owner later in the evening. Had a two breakfasts and a dinner. Breakfast was made fresh and dinner was good, hot, and had sizeable portions. It did not matter to me but people having difficulty with stairs might have an issue as there was no elevator….at least I did not see one. Ii will stay here again in the future.

I spent four nights here while visiting The Cumnock Tryst music festival. On a wet, dreary weekend the Fairburn was a cosy little oasis of warmth and comfort. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful – they accommodated my unpredictable schedule and were able to give me an evening meal at short notice on two occasions when they had already started clearing up and probably wanted to stop cooking. The menu was varied and the food good, freshly cooked and using local ingredients where possible. My room had everything I needed for working and was warm and nicely furnished. The hotel isn't spacious or grand but it has a lovely atmosphere. Best of all, when none of the local taxi firms were available to drive me to a garage in Ayr to pick up my car which had been damaged in a minor accident, one of the owners drove me over himself with all my luggage. I couldn't believe their kindness.

I booked dinner in the restaurant on Saturday 6th April or myself and two friends who live locally. I previously lived locally but have been out of the area for many years, so was back for a visit. My cajun crepe was lovely and one friends red thai curry was also nice. However, my other friend had the burrito bowl which she was unable to finish as it was way too hot. She said she is used to spicy food but this was far far too hot. One of the staff approached us early on while we were eating and we said it was all fine, as my friend was not feeling confident about complaining. She ate less than half her meal. My other friend said to the waitress that it was unfair she was unable to finish it and she called her manager over. Her customer service was shocking, she was passive aggressive and it was, in my opinion, not handled professionally. She insisted it was served to other people and nobody had said it was too hot. She insisted we were complaining for no reason. Our total bill was 96 pounds. We intended to stay for more drinks but left because of the attitude and confrontational aporoach taken towards us. We were polite in trying to put across our point. This lady then stropped about and told us to pay at reception. Not happy, and spoiled our reunion night!

Response from Natalie Carry, Owner at The Fairburn Hotel
Responded 11 Apr 2024
Hi Avaloney, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We appreciate all feedback, both the good and the bad as it helps us strive to be better. Can I just start off by letting you know that it was not the Manager that you spoke to on Saturday, it was one of our front of house supervisors. I was made aware of the situation with your table and it really is a shame for all involved. If you feel the supervisor in question was unprofessional then I can only apologise. I know what she said to you but I also don't know how it was said to you. I am aware when she briefed me about the situation that you said she lied about when she did a check back on your table. She said she apologised for being late on checking on you as one meal was nearly finished and one of your party said that she did the check back after just a couple of bites. I can confirm that she absolutely was late on doing her check back as I checked the camera above your table and the curry was all but finished and the crepe was more than half finished. The reason we do check backs is to allow our quests to voice any issues (if there were any) early on so that gives us the opportunity to rectify them there and then. Intended to abolish any issues at the end of the meal when we do not have the opportunity to do so. During the check back we were told it was "lovely". So, of course, it was a shock when the girls were then asked to taste the meal (but they didn't want to eat eat off another persons plate) in the restaurant and then asked for the chefs feedback. The chefs feedback after they did in fact taste the dish was that it was exactly how it always goes out, and yes, we had sold many that evening with no issues. Its a take on a Mexican dish and is intended to be spicy (as stated on the menu) but we know that everyone is different. I appreciate that you feel it was unfair that your friend couldn't finish her meal. It is. However, we would have been more than happy to change her meal or remake it, as we make everything to order and could of made it milder if it was mentioned at the check back. We don't see something that's not to someone's liking as a complaint at all but we cant fix something if we don not know there is an issue. Yes, she will have asked you to pay at reception as that's where we ask all guests to pay the bills as that's where the card machine and till are. I am sorry if you feel that she was stomping around. As you would have seen - there wasn't a spare seat in the restaurant on Saturday night and all the team were running around very busy with all of our tables. I have taken your comments on board and absolutely will go over how to deal with these infrequent situations with said supervisor if that is the case as I would never want guests of ours to leave feeling any kind of negative way. In regards to the pricing - yes, your bill was £96 but that was for 3 main courses, 3 desserts, a bottle of wine and a jug of soda and our portions are certainly plentiful. Again, I apologise if you feel that she was unprofessional but I can ensure that would not have been her intention at all. I do hope you decide to join us again. Kind Regards, Management
