Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Hotel's Favourite
This is going to be a long list of likes! The location was amazing, just across the pedestrian walkway to the lake beach with loungers and umbrellas, we borrowed the kayaks from the hotel and had a great paddle for a couple of hours one afternoon. Swimming pool was huge and well maintained. Our room had a lake view (no balcony) and it truly felt like we were in a proper beach resort. It was a great size with a good sized bathroom too. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast was vast and good gluten free options available. Staff very attentive, bar area very comfortable and a good lunchtime menu. We didn't eat there in the evening as there was a requirement for long trousers in the restaurant and the menu was a little fixed for slightly choosy teens, but there's a great pizza restaurant within a 2 minute walk.

Excellent hotel right on lakefront. Large rooms (we had balconies and lakeview). Position of hotel is awesome as its away from the road and very quiet. 20 min walk to garda town via lakeside. Own private beach with plenty of chairs! Breakfast is great! Staff are very friendly! All in all the hotel is perfect. We just didnt like the surroundings as it was too crowded and touristy. Its the busiest part of lake garda we have visited (4th year at the lake).

The Sportsman Hotel is a nice, well-kept property in a great location between the towns of Bardolino and Garda. The rooms were sufficient and we had a partial view of the lake which was lovely. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet offered a lot of options including fresh pancakes made by request! Our group (4 adults and 2 kids) enjoyed the private beach and convenience of on-site bar and restaurant. We also loved the free kayak rental provided by the hotel--it was a fun way to explore the lake. It may have just been the time of year we visited, but we only saw one other family with two children during our stay. I'd say that most guests were of retirement age, which sometimes made us self-conscious as our kids drew lots of stares/looks even though they were well-behaved in all of the public settings. We felt out of place letting the kids play in the pool while other guests mostly used the pool for lap swimming, so we mostly spent time at the lake beach. My kids even noticed and commented that they were the only kids there! Again, this may change as it gets later into summer and more families are on holiday. We did not try the hotel restaurant for dinner as it seemed too quiet for our family, but there are other restaurants within walking distance, including a beach bar just next to the hotel. If you are going during busy season and want to take the sunset cruise on the sailboat (that's including with your stay at the hotel), book early as it was already full by the time we arrived.

Just returned from 4 nights in the Sportsman hotel. The hotel is in excellent location right next to small reserved beach area in between Garda and Bardolino making it easy to visit both towns with around 20 min walk to each. Pool area very nice ideal when wanting to cool down it was extremely hot when we stayed. The hotel rooms are spacious we had lovely view of lake from our room. Breakfast was excellent great choice staff very helpful. Would recommend a stay here.

So impressed last year with our holiday at the Sportsman in Bardolino we booked again this year. The high standards of the staff at all levels have been maintained and the food was worthy of one of a top class restaurant. The hotel was spotless and the staff were, as usual helpful and courteous. The hotel is convenient for Bardolino and Garda pleasant walks in either direction, however you can relax on the hotels private beach.

We recently spent a week at the Sportsman Hotel and had a fantastic time. The food was excellent and surpassed any meal we have had on cruises. Staff very helpful and the location in between Bardolino and Garda was ideal for us. Our view from our bedroom was one of the highlights.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The staff we so helpful, every request we had they fulfilled and we were particularly grateful to Liisa who helped us organise a wine tasting trip to Zyme vineyard. We loved all the extra touches like slippers and robes In the room and melon brought around to the private beach. We took advantage of the bike hire at a reasonable rate and free rental on canoes to explore the lake further. It is very difficult to find fault with the hotel and staff and if we were to be picky our only tiny criticism would be the bed linen did smell damp and may be something to look into. Thank you for a wonderful stay

Without wanting to repeat what everyone else has said, this is a very nice hotel. However it is geared up for the Germans and not the English and they are the majority of the guests. Plenty of sunbeds available most days either at the pool side or by the lake on the private beach but as to be expected towels were put out early by some of our EU friends and the reserved beds not used! Bike hire was 6 Euro/day/bike of 4 Euro for part day. Excellent selection of food for breakfast, probably the best I've had at a hotel of this rating. Trip organised by hotel to Venice for the day was 80 Euro each plus 32 Euro each for a gondola ride and a boat trip round the harbour. A bit expensive but I guess thats the going rate for that kind of trip! We paid the hotel 41 Euro each for a day trip to Verona. Both trips were OK but in my view you got too much 'free time' in each City, about 5 hours hanging around in the heat!

We had an excellent stay at the Sportsman Hotel and would definitely recommend . The room was a good size with a balcony and had a modern look with all the storage you need including shoe draws. The food was top notch . Different rooms for breakfast and dinner created the required holiday ambience to start the day and have a superb a la carte in the evening. Great location on the edge of the lake and sat in between Garda town and Bardolino. Just 15 / 20 minute lovely walks to the towns. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a super experience.
