Really nice hotel with comfortable rooms, helpful staff and a good breakfast. Ideal location for visiting Monte Cassino Abbey and the war cemeteries which was the reason for our stay. Located near to the town centre and easy to find with free parking.

The hotel is in a good location with fantastic views of Monte Cassino. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful and go out of their way to ensure you have a good stay. The bed was comfy and air conditioning in the room was much appreciated in the hot weather. It was easy to park on the road outside and you can access the hotel at any time of day/night with a key fob. We would highly recomend the owners history tours of the area too.

We went to Cassino to visit the sites of the 1944 battles to capture Monte Cassino, continue the Allied drive to Rome, and liberate Italy from Nazi occupation. As soon as you walk in the lobby, you know that you have selected the right hotel. The lobby and hallways are full of photos and relics of Cassino's history during World War Two. The hotel is family owned and operated by Pino Valente. Pino is happy to help guests find what they are looking for in Cassino . . . and can recommend restaurants, guides for the world-famous Benedictine Abbey, and hikes up Monte Cassino (as well as all points in between). He is a walking, living, breathing encyclopedia of knowledge of his town's history . . . all of which he is willing to share to those who ask. I truly felt welcomed and appreciated by the hotel staff. I cannot recommend this hotel enough . . . particularly if you are going to Cassino to see the Abbey or for any historical related reason.

We stayed at Hotel La Pace Experience in May, our purpose for this visit was to visit our Uncle's gravesite at the Commonwealth Cemetery. We can confirm that this was the best choice - can't get a better view anywhere else. The owner, Pino was so knowledgeable about Cassino, he had an excellent museum in his hotel. People were friendly and excellent breakfast. Thank you to Pino for his excellent knowledge in the battlefield and the battle. Highly recommend this location.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was at the Hotel La Pace. The hotel is quite charming and our room was clean and the facilities were excellent. The breakfast was delicious and the service from the friendly staff made the start of our days stress free. The location was perfect and our room had the most gorgeous views of the Abbey and the mountains. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Pino and he is truly magical. We travelled for the sole purpose of touring the area as my Father fought for the Polish army here. Pino's knowledge, compassion and understanding regarding the history of this beautiful town and what occurred here during the war made this a life changing experience for us. Pino, his family, friends and associates truly created an experience that was incredible. The hotel is filled with artifacts, books and items that help to tell the story. We toured the battlefields and monuments with Pino and his passion for the history is amazing. He is a true gift to anyone wishing to learn about the area. Pino's dedication to both teaching and preserving the history of Monte Cassino is unmatched. Did ti Benedict Giuseppe, motte grazie.

As a group of five we had an excellent stay in the hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean and the staff very helpful. The hotel is located in the centre of town. Owner Pino is also a passionate guide for tours on the battlefield. We made a full day tour with him trough the hills. All in all an excellent experience!

I think it would be hard to find a better view of the Monastery than could be had from our bedroom window at the Hotel La Pace in Cassino. Conveniently tucked away in a side street not far from the Town center, the establishment provides simple comforts sufficient for a stay of any length when visiting the Monastery, battlefields and War graves in the area. Our host Pino Valente is a charming and knowledgeable guide who provides both information and hospitality to a high degree and together with his Wife, they make for a perfect stay in Cassino. The Hotel is a treasure trove of artefacts from the campaigns and with Pinos depth of understanding of customers requirements, can give expert advice at every level. No meals other than breakfast are provided, but there are a good range of restaurants available locally that cater for all dietary choices. I would have no hesitation in recommending La Pace to travelers of all ages who have an interest in the military aspects of the Town, or who simply want to explore a quieter side of Italy.

From the onset, Pinot the owner made our group of 20 feel welcome. Our rooms were all ready to check in as requested. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the aircon was brilliant, wifi signal grest and the view to the abbey was amazing. Pinot was an excellent host, giving our group of 20 a presentation on the events that led to the battles of Cassino. He provided our group with packed lunches and even paid for our group to go to a local restaurant for our evening meal.

Firstly, let me set the scene. My wife’s grandfather was killed in the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944 and she has always wanted to visit Cassino to trace his last steps and learn a bit more about him. We had decided to take a trip to Rome with our granddaughter and therefore this seemed like a good opportunity to visit Cassino and visit my wife’s grandfather’s grave. Final thing to note, we have never been people to take site seeing tours or go on guided walks etc, it just isn’t our thing, and we are quite happy to just walk around an area and see what we see. My wife put a post on a Cassino Facebook group asking for advice on the best way to see the grave and Cassino. A few people came back with ideas and explained it may be difficult to get the most out of a day in Cassino without a guide. Surely not I thought, so I got to work planning our own trip with the help of Google. After a little while I explained to my wife that it may be more costly to do it on our own and we may miss things out. It was at this point that my wife Sarah had started speaking to Pinot via Facebook. It became quite clear quite quickly that Pinot was a very helpful and enthusiastic person, so we agreed to pay for a guided tour with him. Communication was very good prior to and on the day of our tour and we met up with him at the time agreed at the front of Cassino Railway Station and off we went. The tour was based around my wife’s late grandfather, who was killed in the 4th battle of Monte Cassino and he was a Sergeant in the Beds and Herts Regiment. I’ll summarise the tour. We began at Hotel La Pace where we were given a quick insight into the battle and shown some artefacts relating to the battles. We then drove down the “Mad Mile” and were given an overview of the geographical situation and key locations. From there we visited Mount Trocchio, where we got out of the car and walked up to a vantage point overlooking the Gari Valley. Next, we went to Saint Angelo and the Bell of Peace next to the Gari river, followed by a visit to the Beds and Herts memorial and a visit to the Amazon Bridge location (Unfortunately due to bad weather we didn’t walk to the exact site as it was just too wet, even though Pinot wanted to take us there). And then a stop for lunch before Pinots legendary map and props appeared. This was a really good way of visualising who was where and when. Seeing that we had visited all the key locations prior to this briefing, everything now started to come together. After lunch, Pinot took us to the Monastery where he gave us a tour, then onto the Polish Cemetery and finally to the CWGC cemetery where my wife’s grandfather is buried. It was here that Pinot did something remarkable and unexpected. My wife had a video call with her brother allowing him to also see the grave. Pinot stepped up and said some rather meaningful words from the fourth verse of the Ode to Remembrance, then played the last post, followed by 30 seconds of silence. This brought a tear to the eye but meant so much. Thank you, Pinot. We were then given the opportunity to go back to the hotel to ask more questions and look through the archives etc, but we had to leave as we needed to get back to Rome on the train. Pinot dropped us off at the station where we wished him a fond farewell. That is a brief overview of the tour. Definitely not something we could have done by ourselves. But what made this special? Yes, my wife visiting her grandfathers grave meant a lot, but Pinot made this day truly remarkable. From the moment we met, he started talking and it was quick to see his passion for Monte Cassino. This subject means a lot to Pinot and that is quite evident as he wanted to pass on as much of his knowledge as possible to us. He has a very good grasp of the English language, he is knowledgeable, he is very enthusiastic, he also has a great sense of humour and is extremely polite. We could not have had a better guide. Going back to my comments at the beginning, make sure you get a guide (preferably Pinot) as you will learn so much more than trying to make your own tour up. Google is good, but Google can’t express itself in the same way as Pinot can! Pinot, thank you for everything, this was a special day for us and you made it even more special. Keep up the fantastic work you are doing and hopefully we will be back to visit soon. Tim, Sarah & Megan
