I've eaten here a couple of times since the new owners took it over. Bar and restaurant have had a much needed facelift and the food has also improved greatly. It's good honest pub grub at a reasonable price. A good selection of beers are available and although a touch on the pricey side, the ones I tried were all... More

Went for an evening meal 2 days ago and was very pleasantly surprised at the changes the new owners have made in a relatively short time - a cast improvement! The food was excellent, well cooked, nicely presented with good portions. The owners were very friendly and we wish them well.

I recently stayed here and had a meal too, the food was delicious and the accommodation was good value for money. I will definitely be returning, especially on the 15th October for their Soul FX night, highly recommended!

Thank you very much for your review and look forward to seeing you again on 15th Oct for what will be a great night. It is a pity that I cannot get Trip Adviser to take down the old customer photos that are no longer applicable. More

We visited one weekday evening when the thought of cooking at home did not appeal. The Marquis has been redecorated, some new furniture and feels so much fresher and inviting. The new owners are also new to the trade but enthusiastic and willing. We had a very nice meal - mushroom risotto for me and belly pork for my husband.... More

We have eaten in the restaurant 4 times now. The welcome is warm and homely. Pauline makes every effort to accommodate any dietary requirements, even making gluten free Yorkshire pudding for one of our party when having Sunday lunch one visit. It is very much worth a visit particularly if you want to eat, talk and relax.

Visited with a party of ten for a celebratory lunch. Can't fault the service or staff friendliness and the food was all perfectly edible - standard fare pub grub with pub grub prices to match. We ate in an elaborate and rather dark 'stables' restaurant that raised expectations

We stayed at this pub a year ago and although tired it was acceptable. Went back this year and it had just deteriorated so badly that I would not want to stay there ever again. We had to ask for our money back and go find another place to stay. The entrance to the adjacent accommodation was very dirty, carpets... More

The whole place was tired and run down. It seemed reasonably clean, however, the room was in extremely poor condition. Plaster cracked and missing from one of the walls. The bathroom was mouldy in places and the hallway was extremely grim. The 'complimentary toiletries' were a bottle of Radox and half a bottle of soap. There was no possibility of... More

Within 5 minutes of arriving at this premises was being pestrered by the manager to pay the bill even to the extent that he left me in the bar and went to knock on a colleages room door. I was staying in one of the rooms above the pub which was dirty and dark with tired and old furniture. The... More

I had the very unfortunate occasion to stay overnight at this PUB on 10th November 2015. The room was booked through an intermediary HRG. It was worth the room rate which was £32.50, which is just a little more that I pay for a pair of underpants. Check in is at the bar which stinks of old cooking oil, so... More
