We have just got back from a 10 night stay at the Pietra Di Luna hotel in Maiori. We were a party of 4, myself and my husband (in our 40’s) and my parents (in their 70’s).
We had booked superior rooms because we wanted a sea view and we were not disappointed, we were on the 4th floor the the front of the hotel with a fantastic panoramic view across the bay, stunning!
The rooms are a decent size with a very comfy and large bed, they are a little dated but perfectly fine and well equipped with a fridge, comfy seats on the balcony as well as 2 chairs in the room and plenty of cupboard/wardrobe space. We also had a spare single bed in our room which was useful for putting stuff on! Pool/beach towels were provided and could be changed when you liked. The pool is nice and we never struggled for a sun bed, the beach is great and you are allocated Sun loungers for your stay on arrival which we really liked.
We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis and found the breakfast to be more than adequate with a decent selection of fruit, yoghurts, cereal, cold meat, pate, cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon, breads, cakes and pastries and a good selection of gluten free products too for my mum who is coeliac.
The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable throughout the hotel, the hotel is in an ideal location, very close to the beach and a very short walk to the centre of Maiori for restaurants in the evening etc.
The only small “bad” point (which by no means affected our overall experience!), was the poor aircon in the rooms, it is a central system and it’s just not really very effective or cool, having said that we were overly hot in the night or anything like that.
We probably won’t come back because we don’t tend to go back to the same place but if we ever found ourselves in Maiori again we would definitely stay again!

We spent 4nights at the Hotel Pietra di Luna, it's in a great location, 30m from the sea, the hotel has plenty of sunloungers for guests and the partial sea view balcony room (402) facing west had fanastic views of the sea and up the moutains to Revello and beyond the coast. Unfortunately they are the only highlights to this hotel. The room itself is clean and cleaned daily, the AC is from the 1960's when im assuming the hotel was built, its little more than a wisp of air coming from it. They also turn off the AC at 7am until late in the evening, making it very uncomfortable to have a sleep in or relax in the midday heat. The pool area is dull and depressing, the pool itself is clean and reshreshing aka freezing. To order drinks from the pool we had to go to reception as there were no staff around to ask. The bar inside the hotel was never tended. However once you found a staff member they were extremely friendly and happy to help. We were there on a half board basis, and we only ate there once. The food wasn't what we expected from the Amalfi coast, dry and tasteless, really disappointing. Thankfully there were other great options close by. The hotel itself needs updating, the elevators that fit only 2 people is like something out of a horror movie, WiFi only in the lobby area, and lights turned off in common area's I assume to save electricity make the impression they dont want you sitting in there. Overall, if all your looking for is a clean comfy bed in the centre of Miaori then this is your place, otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

Dear Tom, Thank you very much for having chosen the Pietra di Luna Hotel for your stay on the Amalfi Coast, and for taking the time to review our hotel. We are sorry for not having been able to meet all your expectations but also we would like to make some comments. I understand and I agree that the hotel is old, it was opened in 1973 and surely is not a modern hotel, which probably you were thinking of going to. The real décor and ambience of the hotel is what appears on all the websites and booking engines. Although the hotel is “OLD”, we keep everything clean and functional, and we have no records that you reported any problem during your stay. Regarding our Restaurant you can go through the many reviews of our returning guests to check about our food. Thank you once again for staying with us and looking forward to welcome you back, should you be willing to give us a second chance. Best regards, Mario Lazzarini Hotel Manager

We stayed for 2 weeks at this lovely hotel. The restaurant manger and his staff were wonderful, I’m a fussy eater. The restaurant manager sorted out grilled chicken and fries for me every night and steak and fries for our daughter. My husband is not a fussy eater and he said the food was amazing. The restaurant manager arranged a breakfast basket on our last day as we were being picked up at 6am for the airport. A huge thank you to all the restaurant staff.
The room we had was a little dated but perfectly fine for our stay, there was a problem with the air conditioning one day and the reception staff sorted our a really powerful fan for our room., thank you. As mentioned previously by other reviewers the beds are hard. But we explained to reception and they arranged mattress toppers for our beds.
There was 2 days when there was no sun loungers left, unfortunately there was a few family’s not staying at the hotel using the sun loungers one family in particular the dad used to come first thing in the morning and put a hat on one sun lounger, sun cream on another, a book, then a t shirt etc and they were using 6 beds, but would not turn up until 2-3 hours later to use them. we heard them talking about what meal they were making for their dinner and they didn’t have hotel towels we never saw them at breakfast and this hotel is not self catering so we believe they were not guests at the hotel. They never bought any drinks from the pool bar, they used to arrive with a bag full of food and drinks. hotel guests never put towels on the bed until they were using them. This is not a criticism but maybe the pool attendant could check the guests staying at the hotel have a sun lounger before people not staying at the hotel use them. Great location too.
Overall a wonderful stay and we look forward to combing back next year.

We have stayed at this lovely hotel in the past and decided to visit again. You are can be a little wary of returning somewhere in case its not as good as you remembered but this was not the case it was just as good and more.
We had a fabulous side sea view room with a double balcony which we had requested and very much appreciated being available for us.
The beach facilities were open on this visit as we travelled 2 werks later than last time and were a real bonus. It was lovely to have both the toilets and shower close at hand.
As the beach is rather pebbly and the sand gets hot we bought some water shoes and they were fantastic.
The pool us a good size and there were plenty of beds and umbrellas.
The hotel is beach front and the rooms are a good size. There is a fridge and a safe to use and reception gave me a kettle so I could make our morning cup of tea before breakfast.

Breakfast is a buffet with a variety of hot and cold foods and drinks.
Dinner is a 3 course meal with a good selection to choose from and this is by waiter service.

Maiori is our favourite town on the Amalfi coast and is perfect for visiting the others with either ferries or buses.
We would like to thank Mario and his team for another delightful visit and to say we will be returning again and bringing some friends with us next time.

This hotel claims to be 4 star, maybe in the seventies it was. Today only 4 rooms benefit from a more modern look, the rest if falling apart.
Breakfast was below average and access to the terrace was only given if you knew the management team, the WiFi (one of the 4 rooms having any WiFi) was extremely weak, we had an attack of ants in the shower (hundreds and hundreds for days), the bathroom had a nasty smell throughout, extremely unfriendly staff, low level of customer service to be generous and a so called hotel manager completely oblivious and dismissive of any feedback (probably still living in the glories of the seventies.....when trying to address the ants problem, he felt necessary to share that he had ants in his house too).
Good with competing with any 4 star hotel of international standards!

Dear Guest, We are very sorry for not being able to fulfil your expectations, and we apologies for the inconvenient of the ants. Probably the hotel is not what you were expecting, and it is not a modern hotel, but surely is not “falling apart” and we are trying our best to keep it up to date. Concerning the comments on the staff and the management, probably at the time we did not do enough but we assure you that we try always our best to satisfy our guests. The positive reviews, on this blog, especially those of the many returning guests, are a confirmation of our attitude towards our guests. Best regards

The location of the hotel was perfect for us. Having never been to Amalfi coast before we quickly realised that Maiori was a great location away from the chaos of Amalfi, Positano etc but perfectly positioned to explore.
The hotel is a little dated but for us this was not an issue. Everywhere was spotlessly clean from the reception area, corridors and most importantly our room. The room itself was located at the side with a partial sea via and large balcony. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and shower more than adequate for our needs. There was a fridge in the room which was handy. However it was quite noisy being so close to the road.
The staff were excellent and the waiters in the restaurant were friendly, fun and worked very hard. We would like to say an extra special thank you to Antonio the barman who always served us with a smile and was happy to chat. The outside bar opened on our second day and for sure was a real bonus. There was a band on one evening of our stay and we enjoyed sitting outside after dinner listening to them. It gave a nice atmosphere.
The hotel has its own beach area with loungers etc which was a bonus. The beach is very shingly though and tough on the feet!
Our biggest let down was the food. Breakfast was absolutely fine, buffet style with a good choice of pastries, cereal, fruit as well as bacon and scrambled egg and cheese and meats. However, the evening meals were very hit and miss which was a shame as it was a la carte with a choice of starter, main and dessert. It was usually the main that was the problem; the worst one being seafood with a mainly inedible selection of octopus and prawn and some other unidentifiable seafood served with mashed potato and brussell sprouts! Another offering (which we did not choose!) was 'piglet fillet in caper and tomato flavoured butter'. As a result, although we were half board, we did dine out on a couple of evenings. Other guests we spoke with did the same.
That said, we would not let it put you off staying here and the benefits detailed above far outweigh the food. I would just say, don't book half board. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance and we found it less expensive than we thought.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it if you are thinking of heading to the Amalfi coast.

Myself qand my Partner absolutely loved our stay. Highlights include the view from the Bar situated out front, great for cocktails before dinner and after as well. Housekeeping were perfect and always on the ball.
The room was spacious with a great shower, we had a side room overlooking pool and sea. Great sized Balacony. The town itself is walking distance from the hotel, but also many bars along the sea front on both the beach side of the road and opposite if you want to venture out. Plenty of Tours on offer, to Capri, Pompei, and vesuvius if you don't mind paying extra and most pick up near the htoel. (take the ferry to Capri, we took a boat tour and the transfer was by speedboat, great if you can handle it, but not for the faint hearted)

The only thing stopping me giving the Hotel a full 5 starts is one thing, The restaurant is letting the side down. The breakfast offers lots of choise and is very nice, the evening meals are varied as well. But the dining room lacks any ambience (a hotel called RPH down the road we noticed offers eveing meals outside by candel light, very nice) and for some reason they offer lots of bread at dinner but only 1 butter. The oilss and balsamic for the bread are only ever offered to the Itlalian guests for use, as is the parmesan, like they are closely guarded state secrets.

At lunch one day (which we paid extra for) i decided to dare to ask if i can have parmesan on my pasta course, the Maitre D' was very quick to contradict me saying it was not required as i was having a prawn pasta it wouldn't be nice, seriously why am i fighting for parmesan? Eventually he gave in and it was nice on the pasta. The whole event of him repremanding my choice drew a lot of attention from the other guests i was quite mortified, as far as i am aware the restaurant is not michelin starred so if a guest asks for something even if you personally think its not required, you should honour what the guest has requested. Prior to this On my second night of stay as i was leaving the restaurent i stupidly said Buenas Noches instead of buona sera, i knew the difference i was just tired it was and it was a slip, well the same Maitre D' corrected me again in a firm tone in front of the whole restaurant, not neccassary in anyway.

So in summery its a great place but your Maitre D' needs to chill out and Brits love parmasan and olive oil too, please offer it to your guests at dinner.

The hotel is located just outside the main centre and (just across the road) from the beach. There is a private beach with free sunbeds for hotel guests. We had a 2nd floor room just above reception with a large balcony and sea view. The room was a good size, very clean but a bit dated. The rooms have air-conditioning which is very much needed in the heat of Italy . The main reception always had someone in attendance to help with any issues day or night. The restaurant is located at the front of the hotel with a sea view and there was plenty of space around the tables so it never felt crowded. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful, and if you didn't like something they always offered to get you something else. We were on a half board package. There was a different menu each night with a selection of 3 starters and 3 mains. Beware if you order Pasta for your starter as they are a meal by themselves and you may not have room for the Main course. We sometimes ordered soup and a pasta from the starters as our main course. Breakfast was a buffet with a very good selection of food. There is a pool bar which offers a good selection of drinks during the day and in the evening with an outdoor seating area with sea views. The drink prices were comparable to those in the local restaurants and cafes. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds, not sure what it would be like in peak season but there are always plenty on the beach. Pool towels were provided in your room at no extra charge. The rooms were cleaned daily with clean towels provided when ever you wanted. The hotel is well situated for trips to local places of interest, either by Boat, Bus, taxi or walking.
We had a very relaxing end enjoyable time and cannot fault the hotel, staff and facilities. Thankyou to all the staff for making it a holiday to remember.

The hotel is in an ideal location across from the beach and the walkable town of Maiori. We enjoyed the breakfasts and nightly dinners, both offering many choices. (Best potato lasagna I've ever had). Good sized portions. All staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel is well run and very clean.

Our room was comfortable with a side ocean view. Construction is underway on the building next door but it didn't bother us. We only had one chair in our room, two would have been better. Yes the air conditioning was not fully working but we were still able to sleep. Opening the balcony door always cooled the room down. The bed was just fine for us. The washroom was adequate but not much space for cosmetics, sundry items. Always hot water for a shower. Daily cleaning was timely.

The pool temperature was too cold for us. The deck area has good positioning for suntanning.

We liked that you can charge drinks etc. to your room and not have to pay each time. This is a great convenience.

There is a kiosk selling bus tickets just down the street and both bus and ferry transportation is readily available to other coastal towns. Loved the old churches in town and especially St. Dominic. So much history!

Maiori is a wonderful town to use as a base. We loved the little cafes overlooking the beach with great breezes. There is a little Market store very close to the hotel. They make sandwiches with fresh ingredients for 5 Euros each.

Stayed for one week here and thought the hotel was nice but certainly not a 4 star. The rooms are small and dated along with a very firm bed.
This hotel is not suited to Irish & UK guests as the evening meals are not something we were familiar with. The drinks in the fridge (water) are also charged to the room before checkout which was odd. While we were here, another guest had a dog which barked all day which was a nightmare.
The staff are very friendly especially the two barmen - they make great cocktails and are very polite. 10/10 to the staff. The location is also very good with nice bars and restaurants nearby.
We would definitely return here again and recommend to others.
