I had a hard time finding detailed information about this hike prior to arriving in Italy. The extent of the challenge depends on whether you start the hike at the bus stop in Breglia, or at the Mont Breglia parking lot several kilometers further up the road. From the parking lot, it's a 60-75 minute hike to the Rifugio. However,...

We started from top Parking Place near Mont Breglia. From there it's a lovely walk to the Rifugio. After a photo stop we climb up the very nice Via Ferrata Centenario to the top of Monte Grona. Down the tricky Diretissima to the Rifugio and sit down. We have had some Pasta Bolognese, Linzer Schnitte, Water and Red Wine. All...

This is a very challenging hike. It is basically climbing uphill at a 45- degree-angle for 2.5 hours! It was hard, plain and simple. I am not a mountain climber or hiker, but I do exercise regularly (cross fit/kick boxing) and I found this very challenging. Is the view at the top worth it? ABSOLUTELY. But do not let other...

We hiked up from Breglia to the Rifugio and had lunch there. The hike is definitely challenging (but in no way "dangerous" or "tricky." The lunch at the top was good and the views are not to be missed. So glad we hiked it. (We did not sleep at the Rifugio.)

However I would suggest to start from the car park up the small road near the church in Breglia. This removes walking up the road and saves energy for the (in some places extreme) hike up to the top. The Rifugio has a water fountain to fill your drinks bottle. Great views of the lake from the cross at the...

We've been hiking a lot in the area (swiss, french and italuan alps) and I have to say that the views from Rifugio Menaggio are some of the best you can get! This, together with the super friendly staff, great local food and wine, and overall relaxed atmosphere make this place well worth the hike - either just for a...

LOVE this mountain hut! This was our second trip to Rifugio Menaggio, and again had an amazing time! First time we stayed in the bunk beds, and this time opted to hike our camping gear up and tent camped! Was amazing- waking up to the most beautiful view of Bellagio and Lake Como- truly breathtaking! The host, Dario, was friendly...

Rifugio Menaggio is actually a mountain hut on the eastern slope of Mt. Grona about 1350m above the lake. It is fully staffed during the tourist season and mostly year-round on week-ends. It is managed by CAI (Club Alpina Italiana). It has great simple food like polenta and sausages with cheese and similar mountain food. One can stay over night...
