We just returned from 2 weeks in Italy and the UK and we travel all over the world staying in many Relais and Chateaux properties and leading properties everywhere. This hotel is by far the worst value for the money and the most tired and in need of updates and substance. The hotel is located off the beaten path and...

All superlatives; its only peers in Italy are San Domenico and San Pietro. The staff are warm and gracious.

This is the first time I'm writing a review on this site, although I've referred to it many times when researching trips. After literally raving about Il Pellicano, a friend suggested I read what others have said about it. Thank goodness I'm not alone in appreciating the considerable quality and charm of this resort. I'm frankly baffled by the few...

My wife and I stayed at il Pellicano as part of our honeymoon. We stayed at 5 different locations while in Italy, ranging from the Rome Calavieri to a bed and breakfast in Tuscany. This was probably our least favorite. While the location and hotel itself is very beautiful, we didn't think it justified the cost. The rooms were nice,...

In light of the many negative reviews here, I felt obliged to give my own review of Il Pellicano. My husband and I originally had wanted to book a resort in Positano, but the two hotels we were interested in were already booked. At the recommendation of someone at the Relais Chateaux office, we booked here. As a previous reviewer...

We stayed at the Il Pellicano for a long 4 day weekend the end of June. Since we brought an 18year old teenager as well as an 8 year old child the resort accepted our reservation only(no little kids in the summer months) if we booked the 2 bedroom suite cottage with sea view. Quite frankly, the quality of our accomodations...

I travel a lot and stay at top class hotels. Il Pellicano is one of those rare hotels where luxury and sophistication is present at every moment and place, without showing off. The kind of place for those who know what really matters. A beautiful garden where no leaf is out of place, incredible views and tranquility at the end...

Stayed at Il Pellicano two days for our twentieth wedding anniversary. The location is superb: the only bay in Italy with no children and absolutely no noise! However there is no beach, just a cement platform with sunbeds. The sea is clean but nothing special. The hotel is a collection of villas on the southern slope of the Argentario, away...

We stayed here for a week in the terrace suite. It was absolutely lovely. The staff was friendly, and I loved the poolside menu (so did my son and daughter). This is one of the places where I could really relax and spend time with my family. The spa was absolutely breath taking and our lovely patio overlooking the entire...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The elegant five-star hotel, located in Tuscany's Maremma region, was built in the mid-1960s as a love nest for Michael and Patricia Graham and it is today part of The Leading Hotels of the World. The home, called Il Pellicano as a tribute to the first time the couple met at Pelican Point in California, was initially a club for the Grahams' friends, but was subsequently expanded and opened to friends of friends. However, a few things remained the same: the pleasure of feeling at home and the glamorous and slightly retro atmosphere. The hotel's discrete luxury and the still-rugged Tuscan countryside attract the international jet set. Today, the cottages and the central building are suspended between the sky and the sea, with large rooms, windows and terraces where it's unclear where the indoors end and the outdoors begin. There are pathways and stairways, fragrant gardens and discrete corners, a restaurant with one Michelin stars and three Gambero Rosso forks, a heated sea-water swimming pool, a spa with a sea view to soothe both the body and the soul, and for those wanting to take a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a white platform with chaise longue and immaculate parasols. ... more   less
