Ideally located between Florence and Arezzo, which is a must-see, this 15th-century villa is owned by a very nice couple, who are ready to answer all your problems. The rooms are very nice, the restaurant is excellent and the breakfast buffet very good. Every people from the staff is very kind and efficient. The swimming pool is big and spacious, with trees for the shadow. Parking with cover from the sun is available.

First of all, for us it was really exciting to experience a stay in a 500 years old house. The Villa is perfectly maintained , with carpets on the wooden floor all around the common areas and very clean rooms. We stayed 4 nights in a 2 room suite, so we could put our kids to sleep and stay awake in our room. The bathroom was very big, and heating was good even in cold nights.

The owner, Frederique, is a very happy and attentive gentleman. He took care of all our needs and directed us to local attractions (nearby market etc) and even were given walking trail map to the nearby nature reserve.
The villa has a great restaurant in house, and the atmosphere, eating near a fireplace in a restored medieval room was amazing. Sophie , our server , was the nicest waitress we had in this trip. She is good hearted person, who welcomes you in a big smile every morning, and I think the owners are lucky to have her.

The location is perfect- you can drive to the Valambrosa forest reserve in about half an hour, to THE MALL in 20 minutes, 10 minutes to the train station to get a 20 min direct train to Florence.

Breakfast is very good too, specially the cheese cake and croissants which I couldn't get enough from , not to mention the cold cuts, variety of cheeses, breads, butter, jams, honey, many cakes and biscuits, fruits and more.

I have spent a whole afternoon playing with my 6 years old son in the huge garden around the villa, that had a small playground, chestnuts trees and some horses to pet...

This is a unique place. In many ways it feels more like home, comfortably furnished with antiques. It is located in a large park with a swimming pool and a large terrace. Ample outdoor parking under car sheds. The main house and smaller buildings contain about 30 rooms. The size varies from large to rather small. Furnishing is comfortable but very old-fashioned. Few electrical outlets, very small desk, comfortable beds. Some rooms on the top floors require climbing steep stairs. There is no kettle or coffee machine in the room but the staff can get you hot or cold drinks until late at night. There is a small fridge. The owner act more like a gracious host rather than a hotelier and will try to accommodate your wishes. The staff reflects this hospitable attitude. The main building has a few sitting rooms with comfortable chairs, sofas, tables. Great collection of books in many languages and videos. Wifi is finnicky – works well in the main floor – reception and sitting rooms. Great breakfast and dinner.
If you want to relax, lounge or use the place for local trips – it is a most charming, even enchanted place. For us, certainly a place we would like to return.

This hotel gets very good reviews, but we really don’t understand why. Though meant to have a quaint and historic feel to it, the hotel was old, shabby and not all that clean. Dogs and cats shedding hairs are allowed to roam freely in all public areas. The grounds desperately need some attention. Especially the pool area looks almost derelict, with old and brittle sun beds and overgrown grass. Even the much raved about breakfast was rather underwhelming. We have stayed in quite a few 4* and 5* hotels over the years, but Villa Rigacci doesn’t even come close to the standard of any of them. We wouldn’t even give it two stars!! Don’t be fooled by the photo’s, which must have been taken at least 15 years ago, and whatever you do, DON’T stay there.

Response from PalomaTuscany, Owner at Villa Rigacci
Responded 21 Jun 2011
First of all: during April there weren't any clients from Brüssel in Belgium at Villa Rigacci, so for us this is a faked comment from who ever has an interest to write a beastaly and false comment like this. Everybody who wants to know how it is really at Villa Rigacci may read the other comments before that. Our photos are recent photos, the last we have taken some weeks ago. Our grounds and pubblic areas are well cared and clean, there is one well educated dog and one charming cat and all our guests love them, especially guests returning since many years. The pool area was not officially open during April, we prepare it during April and open it starting from May and it is well cared. Every morning we serve a rich and fresh breakfast and it is is a high quality continental breakfast. We maintain it as with everything else we do at Villa Rigacci, and usually our guests appreciated it.

Highly overrated and overpriced hotel (EUR140 per night). Bad value for money, we've stayed for the same price in Italy in marvelous luxury 4-star hotel. If the price maybe was half, then it would be worth swallowing. The room we got was so small, it felt like returning to a prison room, the bed's mattress was hard causing back pain and my friend who is 1.80m didnt fit into it! I think it was a maid's room from the 15th century. The manager when we told him, was acting as if we were fabricating non-sense, and showed us another small room that was even more depressing with one "prison" window.

The surroundings are very pretty, in the middle of Tuscan countryside, downside is that you are forced to have dinner at their restaurant. We ordered a pasta, where the taste was overruled by the cheap mushrooms that were from cans. Luckily it got scrapped from the bill at least. The risotto tasted like supermarket on-the-go rice. The salmon pasta was better, but the amount of salmon so thin. Stingy is the good word. While the prices are similar to any restaurant in big cities such as Florence. The staff in the restaurant were all from Africa (Egypt and Tunisia) and India, working horrible long hours, and not understanding much about wine or food. I don't blame them with the slave salary they get from Villa Rigacci. But i guess the crown of the trip, was when we wanted to shorten our stay, we got treated as if we were criminals, we got shouted at and even threatened. The ego was so big, and all sense of reality was lost. We were not happy, and instead of respecting us, and showing understanding for our complaints, they were obsessed with the $$$ that it would cost them if we left earlier. We stayed 2 nights, and we had to pay for 3 nights, we felt so humiliated that paying more just to leave was not a problem anymore.

All in all, horrible experience, I recommend any person not to pay more than EUR70 for this hotel (only reason for staying is the swimming pool + surroundings), and remember my words when you see the "fake" smile from the owners, the "family style" attitude is all fake. When it comes to their $$$, they have zero decency. You are better off staying at a professional chain hotel, where there are clear policies for cancellations and staff is trained to deal with complaints much more professionally, and not emotionally. We've seen the real face of this "family", and it was very ugly...

We stayed here 4 years ago and loved it. We were disappointed this time. The hotel is individual and has rustic charm. The owners are polite and cheerful and although we had a specific room request made many months previously it was not available. Even so our room was pleasant. Sadly the service was very poor. On the first night in the restaurant we waited 20mins before even getting a menu or a drink. There was one waiter and an untrained boy assistant. There was no child menu as previously. The wine list was always short here but every choice we made was unavailable. We noticed every table with wine had the same wine. ( the most expensive one)From breakfast to dinner there was no service offered. A little cafe by the pool which used to serve ice cream drinks and child friendly snacks was deserted. The pool is lovely and very clean but the sun loungers are old and grotty with only a few mattresses available. It just felt that the villa lacked staff and the guests were processed as swiftly as possible. It was a sad return visit.

reading the reviews here you could get the idea that people all over the world come to this place. when we where there there were only Germans. With other words apI think these reviews here were not made by people that stayed here.

The place also a huge garden but unfortunately seems to have a mosquito problem. I was bitten 5 times in 10 mins and could see the swarms literally.

The rooms themselves are dark. really dark! the furniture is was what we would throw in the thrash. the bed was one of the worst I ever slept on.

The wifi didn't work but I didn't bother to ask as in Italy anyhow nobody cares to fix anything so don't waste your time!

Our room became super cold at night and we couldn't figure out how to switch on the heating.

by no means this is the best place in that town. go somewhere else!

The restaurant however is excellent...

It was relaxing, romantic, rustic and very Italian. We had the best service and felt like we had the best italian experience. The food was great but the atmosphere was what made the stay the best. You can drive to florence for the day or go site seeing around the area, you can drive to Sienna which is lovely, but it was such a great hotel you can hang around the hotel to relax. We booked soccer tickets and the hotel were able to receive and hold on for us. Thanks to all the staff from the great breakfast to dinner.
