The hotel is situated in a great position. Quietly tucked away, yet just minutes walk from the main streets of Riccione for eating and shopping.

The hotel interior has a classic style and a very pleasant atmosphere. All staff I encountered were exceptionally pleasant and as a female travelling alone, I felt very safe here.

I was very pleased with the room they kindly upgraded me to, which had a pool view and was immaculately clean and stylish.

The Pool for me was wonderful and a real bonus and the area around it was fanatstic.
Brekfast was served the first couple of days on the patio near the pool and was a lovely way to start the day. Breakfast itself was goof with plenty of choice and they also have an extra menu if where you can get things like Avocado on Toast and a variety of freshly pressed juices-I got a carrot, giner and organge everyday I was there.

I enjoyed a drink outside the hotel in the evening and when the sun goes down, the hotel still has a great atmosphere with the lighting.

When I was there I got one massage at the Spa and it was excellent.

A few things to say about Riccione:

It appeared to be a very friendly place. In my short time there, I experienced great kindness from strangers, all happy to help out with directions etc.

There is a train a few minutes walk from the Hotel and the beachfront is minutes away too.
From the train you can easily access places up and down the coast like Rimini (ten minuets away) for 1.50 euro. Trains are fast, clean and very resonably priced with a regular service up and down the coast from early morning until late at night.

Good selection of places to eat and good selection of shops, which mixed high end and designer with everyday.

My favourite bar was situated opposite the end of the road the hotel was on ( 3 minute walk) and is called Bevabbè. Go and have a cocktail there and watch the world go by.

All in all this is a great hotel in Riccione with great service and would reccomend it highly.

What a special hotel, we arrived at lunchtime and checked in, back room 3rd floor. It was to say the least underwhelming and not what we expected. A quick trip to reception, €150 a night extra and we were upgraded to a suite over looking the pool, floor two apparently the 2nd best room. The room was very nice, however what makes this Hotel is the extremely high level of service and courteousness by all staff. Especially the young man in the bar area from three in the afternoon in the swimming pool and evening bar. Breakfast service excellent, if I had one criticism it was that evening service in the main restaurant was too quick. A meal should be an enjoyable experience and not a rushed one, we had just swallowed each time the next course came and the restaurant was only 50% full. Will I return next year,of course I will but only to the same room!!

We stayed at this hotel for a week and I think it was one of the best holiday stays I've ever had. The hotel itself is very nice and the courtyard gives it a communal atmosphere - I think summer here would be very nice.

The hotel provides a swimming pool with spa and hammam, and the bar is very comfortable, with incredibly nice and attentive staff.

The room we stayed in was very clean and spacous and felt like it was recently renovated.

The position of the hotel is very close to the beach as well as some great restaurants and patisseries.

Over all I would highly recommend the Grand Hotel Des Bains as one of the best stays in La Rochelle!

Not having stayed here for many years, this was our 3rd visit to this timelessly elegant hotel. It remains grand in every sense; the architecture, immaculate service & facilities. Our room was comfortable & well-equipped as was the bathroom. The outdoor pool area is a wonderful place to relax & people watch; we didn't have time to check out the beach club. Breakfast served in the gorgeous dining room is the best & the scrambled eggs, to die for.
Loved staying here again & would certainly return.

It was the most enjoyable stay, thanks to the outstanding Receptionist Andrea Cozza! He was extremely helpful, friendly and accomodating. In my opinion, Andrea is the best trained and most professional Receptionist I have ever dealt with in a 5 Star Hotel. He is really exceptional.

Having actually to give this hotel even a one star is not even tempting. We were staying at the same time as the family from Shrewsbury and have to re-iterrate their comments. There is more atmosphere in a funeral parlour than there was at this hotel. After looking at wonderful pictures on the internet at this 'magnificent' hotel we expected to be greeted by out own personal butler but alas no. A half smile and grunt sufficed.
What a shame as outiside of the temple of doom walls there is an actual lovely place called Riccione with very nice people.

We hired a small but rounded car for the week and found that it was not allowed to be parked outside the front of the hotel amongst the fine specimens of Ferarri's and such, a meagre car like ours was parked in an underground, unused ballroom, just in case it spoilt the admiring glances from the menial public taking photographs outside the hotel gates.

Trying to find a sunbed was again a daunting task. So therefore one had to sit at an unocuppied table and wait patiently for a bed to be free but were surprised to be shooed away with very bad hand gestures from one of the poolside waiters. After complaining we were told that these tables were only for people having lunch.

Having asked to speak to the manager of this alleged 5 star hotel we were told by one of the receptionists he would be out to see us straight away................... we waited, ..................., we waited ..... and we waited for half an hour ....... but he did not appear. The manager also did not acknowledge us for the whole time of our stay. We were told that the manager did not actually speak English (is that what you would expect from a five star hotel?).

In our opinion the staff actuallly believed the hype that they were the only five star hotel in Riccione?

Do you own a Ferrari? Are you embarrassingly wealthy, positively rolling in money? Do you spend your life travelling the world, staying in the grandest places and being fawned over by tip hungry hotel staff? No? Then the Grand Des Bains is not for you, beacause unless you fit the above criteria you will be invisible to all but a minority of the staff.

Never in all my travels across the world has a hotel proved to be such a disappointment. Firstly I cannot imagine how it sees itself as a 5 star hotel. Think of what that usually entails and then dismiss that from your mind. Ever been in a 5 star hotel where the receptionist watches you carry your own suitcases into the hotel when you arrive and again when you leave, without the slightest concern that it might be his responsibility to offer some asssistance?

When is the last time your 5 star room had a hole in the ceiling, no ironing/pressing facilities, no tea/coffee making equipment and flaking discoloured paint falling into the bath every time you showered? How many times have you walked past staff members only to see the majority avert their gaze and look fixedly at the floor as they pretend not to see you, a cheery hello a distant hope?

These unhappy experiences are related here because they happened. By the end of our week long stay, at least three British guests had confronted the Hotel Director over a range of issues including the provision of 25 sunbeds round the pool for an average of 150 guests (no parasols are provided) and the exceedingly dangerous spectacle of having one of the swimming pool's main underwater lights drop out of its socket and lie forlornly on the bottom amongst the swimmers feet.

On one particularly rainy day a number of guests all retreated inside to the indoor pool to enjoy the 'luxury' facilities. The pool was appalling; a rusty brown stain spread out over the bottom meant any actual swimming was a definite no-no. The room was neglected, dank and grubby.

Faded elegance you can live with. A cramped room with few facilities you can also live with, albeit at a push and if you get up early enough the crowded inadequate pool area is acceptable...Just. What is wholly unacceptable is the attitude of some of the staff.

A few staff were very nice and welcoming and seemed genuine in their dealings with our party. Unfortunately the rest are just awful. Arrogant, dismissive and unfriendly would all be appropriate adjectives. The bottom line here is that they don't care and nobody in authority cares that this situation prevails.

The situation is best summed up by a Swiss lady we spoke to on our final day, who is a frequent visitor to the hotel. She said to me that some of the staff were not suited to hotel work and were not up to a 5 star service. They had started to believe that they were more important than the guests! Until this changes standards will continue to fall.

Riccione by the way is very nice and all the restaurant, shop and bar staff we met were great. We stayed between 1st and 8th August 2006.

Save up for a Ferrari, visit this hotel and you'll be beating them off with a stick..... Or you could spend your hard earned money at a place that might appreciate you for it.

the only five star hotel in riccione. four stars would be more fitting. service very poor, at times non existent. Plates and glasses left in public areas and around the pool. Rooms, most of whioh had a very strong smell of smoke. o.k. but small. No separate showers. very noisy plumbing. Internet charged for and not reliable. Disappointing to say the least.

The hotel himself is very nice with a very good location by walking distance to the beach and to the busy meeting area Via Ceccarini.
Unfortunately the hotel is also very small as well is very very small the pool and the lobby.
The room is nicely decorated but very dated and in need of newly refurbishment and painting.
Service very slow as everything else, room service took about 30 minutes before delivering the order without any sorry, they have an underground parking which you are not allowed to drive into it, you leave your car at the entrance and they take your car down; be careful, at the check out day we ask for late check out but it was not possible therefore they have allowed to keep the car in the garage with no extra fee and during the time we where shopping around the porter have bring all the luggage down and placed in the car directly, which was nice indeed for this service, surprise!!!! When got it back home I found a scratch on the back of the car, not much but enough to make me angry to have my brown new Jaguar with scratches near the luggage room, I believe because of the heavy luggage the porter did not pay enough attention when lodging the luggage inside scratching the back of the car, annoying me the point when I called the hotel and they refused to believe the damage was made by one the hotel’s employee, unfortunately I found the scratch when got it back home without stop anywhere else after leaving the hotel and before starting drop off the luggage’s from the car. Check your car before leaving the hotel as they will not take any responsibility at all.
Absolutely I will avoid to return to this hotel at any circumstance, many more nice hotel around that area less expensive and this hotel should have cut off one stars at least two would worth.
They have no idea what is it to run a 5 stars hotel, even if you are in a seaside location where business is for few months only per year and in this few months they MUST collect as much money as possible in order to survive the low season starting from November up to May.
If you really looking for a 5 stars hotel in this area than go to Rimini at the Grand Hotel.

We have just spent four days at this hotel. Couldn't fault it.
Rooms well designed and equipped, bathrooms excellent
we did not have a suite but the superior room which did have a street view, no noise experience and we were able to walk just across a corridor to the swimming pool and pool restaurant.
Interior of hotel was very impressive, clean towels and linen and fresh supply of soap etc. every day.
Staff were superb, pool attendant couldn't do enough for us, including fetching and carrying towels and drinks. The dining staff were spot on, both am and pm and the food excellent. Not over familiar but again very attentive.
Reception staff and porters all very polite and helpful.
Car was garaged on site for a small nightly fee
the hotel was in such a good position, just a short stroll from the pedestrianised area.
The whole small area in the front of the hotel afforded some shade and seating but frankly most of the recreational time was spent in the locality.
This resort has such a buzz and decided that we should definitely return both to the hotel and resort.
Very clean, family orientated town, but not rowdy or filled with tacky bars and restaurants.
Thoroughly recommend both hotel and resort.
