Fantastic location directly on the square, friendly, polite and affable staff especially those in the catering service on the 5th floor. The infinity pool on the 5th floor is a truly wonderful must, as is having breakfast on the terrace. Some details of the rooms that need attention, such as broken tile in the bathroom, exposed control valves due to the lack of caps, the bathroom extractor fan (blind) not working and with dust, a coat of paint to remove the sign of water leak it would have improved the view, the noisy fridge, the first night the sheet was missing.........The room however was clean. Let's say that the location works in its favor and the staff also gives it an extra point. Overall I recommend it

Well, this going to be somewhat positive and somewhat negative... But first - I have been told, that the hotel is a four star hotel. I do not know, how it has been rated four stars! At the very best it is a three star. On the positive side: The location is five star. It couldn't be better. And the view from the rooftop restaurant is breathtaking. The building itself is a nicely kept old lady. Our room was spacious, the beds were good, so were the pillows and the cleaning was exceptional. The cleaninglady was even smiling. As for the negative: One out of two elevators were out of order. Our guide told us, that is was out of order too, when he was there two weeks prior to us. There are 70 rooms, so with only one elevator, long queues were formed in front of it. The staff at the reception and in the bar and the downstairs restaurant were grumpy and unsmiling. However, I must mention, that the staff at the rooftop restaurant were nice. But worst thing was the food. First night I thought it was quite okay, but it only got worse from then. At our table a couple tried pork twice, bit never got meat, that had had enough time in the oven. They simply couldn't cut meat from the bone. The socalled gnocchi had no taste - other than flour. I do not know, why they insist on serving four courses. They could serve two, and then give those dishes time, love and good ingredients to make people happy. The breakfast was even worse. The bread is white toastbread, from a factory, presliced, or white factorymade buns. The juice has never seen an orange. Twice I had mortadella, that must have been in and out a couple of times, and now tasted the way old socks smell. The cheese on the other hand tasted of nothing. However there was a nice brie. In a country, that do know how to make good bread, that makes the best salami and other sausages and make formidable cheese, this was such a disappointment. Would I stay there again? I might. But I wouldn't dine there - or have my breakfast at the hotel.

The hotel stands impressively by the lake overlooking the main square, a great location and a promise of classic grandour within. Sadly when the hotel was refurbished a few years ago the decision seems to have been taken to clear away any original features, any of the grandour and all of the history from a hotel that had stood proudly by the lake for 100 years. It is now rather bland and contempory and fails to evoke any of the 'wow' factor that the best hotels will. Our room, with balcony overlooked the lake and resembled something that might have been cheaply furnished from Ikea. No wardrobe, just an exposed hanging rail, some shelves and two drawers. The bed was comfortable but very basic. The air con simply recirculated air, there was no cooling which made the hot close nights difficult. Worse however was the apparant lack of any sound proofing. Every word of every conversation in adjoining rooms was clearly audible; every cough; every sneeze; every toilet visit. We were only lucky that adjacent guests were all of an age that come 11pm they had retired to bed. The bathroow was dated, really showing signs of wear but was kept clean and there was plenty of hot water. The shower head however had given up and hung limp in its cradle necessitating it being hand held. Breakfast was included, and I accept this is down to personal taste, but lacking in choice for us. Plenty of cakes, plenty of cheese and plenty of cold meats. Genuinely very continental but fair enough we were on the continent. Dissapointing we were not allowed to eat in the roof top restaurant in the evenings where the views were amazing and fine dining was promised. We were abruptly told this was available ONLY to guests staying at the hotel on half board basis. Riva del Garda is beautiful but should we return, as we might, we would not stay at The Grand. It really isn't grand anymore.

The hotel is centrally located right on the lake on the promenade. The Grand Hotel is rated 4* according to Italian reviews (a good 3*+ according to German reviews). The hotel is accessed via a small pedestrian zone. (The sat nav says to turn off first - which is wrong!)...The newly renovated superior rooms with balcony are functionally furnished. The bathroom is missing 1 or 2 shelves for storage and door hooks for hanging towels. The rooms should be cleaned more thoroughly. Heated pool on the roof and sauna/whirlpool in the basement (fee applies). The lobby should have different lighting (small chandeliers, different furniture/decorations that emphasize the "grand hotel ambience" a little more. The current furniture/lighting doesn't go together so well. Also loosen things up a bit with plants. But that's a matter of taste. Friendly, helpful staff everywhere, who you can have fun with! Would love to come back anytime! The renovation of the hotel (cleaning windows/rooms) should be completely finished next year. Breakfast on the 5th floor and also dinner. There's something for everyone at breakfast. The buffet could be more varied, but there's something for everyone :) Unfortunately there's too much sweet stuff for breakfast. But that's Italy :) The dinner here is very good with lots of choice! The hotel can be highly recommended!

If I could give zero stars I would have Booked months in advance for one night, I called the evening before asking if there was a possibility of arriving the night before in the middle of the night, what would it cost me more, the girl on the phone told me that we wouldn't have paid more as we were arriving very late. When we leave, we have a big surprise and we find ourselves paying for an extra night, saying that it's normal, perfect, so why on the phone do you tell me that I wouldn't have paid more? At least tell it like it is right away we wouldn't have left the night before to arrive at 1am paying full but we would have come the next morning Not to mention the rooms very dirty and full of dust with an unpleasant smell of humidity!!! And also disorganized for the parking on arrival they told us in the morning to come by that they would have given us the hotel parking in the morning they told us that the parking was already booked for new arrivals, you don't even know!!! I will never go back again not recommended!!!

It’s a shame this hotel is being reviewed for the food. We were b&b so only had breakfast which was continental and had everything we wanted with wonderful views on the 5th floor. We spent 10 nights here and it was perfect for us. I emailed the hotel before arriving to ask for a lake view. Although we were on the second floor, we could just see the lake from our balcony. The room was spacious, well equipped and had a comfy bed and great shower. Plenty of plug sockets and wardrobe space and a mini fridge that had water replenished daily. The pool is smaller than it looks on the pics but we had a day on the roof soaking up the rays and it was lovely to go for a dip. We spent more time at the beach where you could hire sun beds. The hotel is in a perfect location with fabulous views and flat walking to hundreds of cafes and restaurants. Riva is wonderful. We loved the vibe, the food and the people. Highly recommend the yellow speedy boat to Limone and Malcesine (€23 pp) it allowed us to see these beautiful areas in a day.

Wow what a hotel. Location is the best in the resort. Views are stunning. Rooms, Roof infinity pool are beautiful. The Hotel had recently done up the Spa room and this is another little gem, as it was a great asset to the the hotel as we had bad weather for 3 days so we used the sauna, and steam room and the relaxation was needed. Staff on the reception were really friendly and the Manager that was in the breakfast area was lovely, friendly, kind and helpful. The air con was not strong / cool enough that is the only negative. Other than that everything was perfect and you need to make people aware of the green card that is available ( free bus, discounts to certain things), we only knew about it as the women in the Info location told is about it.

Just wanted to give you some feedback on our stay with you last week. The hotel a perfectly located with easy access to the town, restaurants and ferry port. We were pleasantly surprised by our room with a balcony and beautiful view of the lake, albeit a restricted view by trees. We were a little surprised that there was no kettle I. The rooms for hot drinks and that the bottled water in the fridge (which was turned off) was charged for, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was plentiful but the hot drinks were disappointing as one of the coffee machines only poured hot frothy milk and the other machine half a cup that was not hot. There was no English breakfast tea available which I particularly missed. The infinity pool is amazing although on one of the two occasions we went there were young children jumping from the sides, causing mayhem by jumping into the pool which was a bit nerve wracking. The views from the pool is spectacular! The staff all seems to be friendly, the property is clean. We would definately recommend and would stay there again.

we had a great stay at the Grand Hotel at Riva Del Gard. It is in a great location for bars, restaurants. Easy access to boat trips and trekking and just sightseeing. The hotel staff are very friendly, food in the dining room is good with a varied selection on the menu. Breakfast buffet is very much continental with cheese, hams, fruits, and pastries but really good. Our room was big spacious, bright with breath-taking views over the lakes and mountains and was spotless. All in all great holiday at a great hotel.

The staff were vey friendly and attentive. The hotel was right in the middle of things. Lots of cafe’s, restaurants to choose from. Close to the ferry terminal for day trips. Hotel very clean. Very very limited clothes storage. No room chair to sit on. €332 additional charge for a lake view was not worth it as ( €166pp in double room). Views were stunning on trips and eating out was very reasonable. Would definitely go back to Riva del Garda again

No need to be alarmed at the fussy comments about the food- I found it all very acceptable. The breakfast was varied and lots of it, and the evening meal had a choice of three starters, mains and desserts- all very well cooked and served with a smile. Panoramic restaurant was fabulous. My only criticism was that menu lacked variety... If you are going to local restaurants as well then that is not a problem.
The staff were brilliant in the restaurant and friendly at the reception desk but one of the bar staff was downright rude! I think it depends who you find is on duty.
The room we had was on 4th floor- clean, with a fridge, no kettle but beautiful views from the balcony. The bathroom had a poorly fitting glass door -not good if you are sharing!!! If on your own it is fine.
Central location is very helpful and convenient but you do get noise at night.
I would go there again very happily - hope this helps!
There are more places to choose from in the Riva Del Garda area.
