A warm welcome awaits you at West House Farm Cottages. Our modern dairy farm sits in the heart of the open countryside and has an abundance of widlife and views to both the Scottish and Lakeland fells. To complement our established Bendale Cottage, we have created two new barn conversions, Little Meadow and The Old Byre in the courtyard at West House Farm. This large courtyard offers private, safe and secure parking and is separated from the working farm by the 17th century bank barn.

We stayed in the Byre just after lockdown 3 had eased and it was a welcome 4 night retreat. Communication with Susan was excellent, especially as we had had to move our booking a few times. On arrival, Susan had kindly decorated the Byre with some balloons, scones, cakes, flowers and even a birthday card for my daughter, it was a lovely gesture and much appreciated. The Byre was clean, spacious and really lovely inside. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were really comfortable and there was a nice touch of style throughout.
The were several highlights outside of the accommodation; the hot tub was great, overlooking fields and the mountains and perfect for sunset and star gazing, the little play area right next door was very useful for us as we could watch the children (age 7&8) play from the hot tub, the kids loved checking on the chickens and watching for eggs, they also loved playing with the 2 cats and going to see the calves and cows with Susan. As there are only a few accommodations the place felt safe and everyone we met was friendly.
The surrounding area is very quiet as this accommodation is set on a working farm. You need a car but it's close to Maryport (fish and chips) and Cockermouth. We travelled easily by car on decent roads into the amazing lakes each day which took around 25 minutes to reach Keswick/Buttermere/Borrowdale - these areas were so so beautiful and certainly quieter than Windermere/Ambleside. I'd recommend Keswick for a boat trip on Derwent water and a climb of Catbells, a walk to the waterfall in Buttermere and we also did a family abseil and rock climb day with Mark from Mountain Journeys which I would recommend.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the feeling of being far enough away but close to everything and the accommodation was very comfortable with the hot tub adding that extra bit of luxury.

Fantastic cottage set on a working dairy farm. Clear the animals are well cared for, not just the cows but the cats and dog. Was lovely having them around for additional company. The cottage was lovely with all the amenities you could need and extremely clean..The hot tub was a great addition, it kept the heat very well and it was lovely sitting in it in the evening looking over the fields at the cows and general views. Susan was a brilliant host, very friendly and gave us some good recommendations for places to eat. Would 100% stay again if we are ever in the area!

We stayed in The Bothy, a recently renovated farm building which is beautifully decorated and very cosy with its log burner.
It's in a great position, away from the crowded places like Windermere, but within touching distance of all the attractions of The Lakes. Cockermouth is a 5 minute drive away for shops, pubs, coffe shops and everything you may need and Maryport is also 5 minutes away, with stunning sunset views over the Scottish mountains.
Susan was extremely friendly and welcoming and we look forward to returning again soon.

Just returned from a 3 night break at the little meadow. The cottage is immaculate and well equipped with everything you need! Dishwasher, washer, dryer etc.. when we arrived Sue had left us a bottle of wine and fudge which was a really nice touch. There are gowns and slippers to use. The hot tub is fab (the kids loved spending their afternoons in it). Highly recommend staying here you will not be disappointed! Can’t wait to visit again!

We have just had a short stay in the Bothy cottage at West house Farm Cottages. What a beautiful place and what a great welcome from Susan. We arrived to scones, clotted cream and jam. Add in cream cakes and a bottle of wine as well. What a way to welcome us. The Bothy is beautifully fitted out to a high level with everything you could need for a relaxing stay in Cumbria. Lots of space but cosy with it. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the proximity to the Lakes or the coast. We will most definitely return very soon. Highly recommended.

We had such a nice stay at The Bothy, feel completely relaxed!
Susan was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The prosecco, cakes and scones left for us on arrival were such a lovely touch.
The Bothy has great facilities, we spent both nights of our stay here and it had everything we needed to make us feel at home! The kitchen was very well equipped - Had everything we needed and more. We loved the décor, which had clearly been very well thought out. We enjoyed a drink in the outdoor seating area before heading back inside to settle down in front of the fire.
It is in a great location, very handy for Bassenthwaite and Derwent water. We would definitely recommend Catbells walk (though a bit of climbing is involved!).
Wishing we’d booked for longer!

Sad to be leaving tomorrow, we've had a great week away and will definitely be back! Susan the owner couldn't be friendlier or more helpful, a great host. The kids absolutely loved the farm animals in the surrounding fields and really enjoyed the little play area. The highlight for them though was going down in the morning to see if the hens had laid any eggs for their breakfast. Overall a great place whether you're a family or a couple. Plenty of things to do within the local area, we would suggest the Ratty Railway from Ravenglass to Eskdale if you have kids or just stay in and relax in the hot tub! Can't wait to be back!

Fantastic family accomodation for exploring the North & Western Lake District. Very welcoming, friendly & helpful hosts. The Old Byre has been finished to a high standard and was a delight to stay in, especially with it having the outdoor hot tub, our 5 year old twin girls loved it. They had great fun feeding the chickens and regularly checking to see if they had laid any eggs, which they polished off for breakfast every day. It was a real treat for them to be shown the "baby cows" which were only a day old. Overall, very family friendly accomodation in a beautiful location. Whenever we plan our next visit to the Lake District, this will be our 1st choice for accomodation.

Arrived and instantly felt how warm and homely the cottage was..Everything was spotless and of top quality and design too fit in with the vision and surroundings of the cottage.. Never a noise too be heard from any farm machinery and whilst relaxing out the back only the passing inquisitive cows about 10 metres away gave you a hint you were at a farm. The kitchen appliances were fully functional and all cutlery, pans, plates etc were in plenty. Bathroom again luxury with powerful double shower and deep bath. Twin room lovely.. Master bedroom very quaint and absolutely comfy bed and quilt n pillows. Hot tub was absolutely relaxing and always hot and clean.. Only a 5 min drive too Cockermouth and 30 mins too Keswick and the Lake.. Cannot fault anything about this place and is a total success for Susan.. Thanks, Mike and Karen

If you are looking for a rural piece of heaven, this is it. The cottage itself is fitted to a very high standard with everything you will need for a relaxing stay, the hot tub is a great bonus feature. The cottage was full of lovely little twelcome from a welcome basket of Cumbrian food, home made cake to the high quality toiletries in the bathroom. When we visit Cumbria next we will without doubt look to stay here.
