My wife and I have just had two fantastic nights staying the Bothy It was my wife's 50th birthday and after a conversation with Susan the owner the room was decorated with balloons banners and bouquet of flowers we arrived late on the Friday and was greeted by Susan who let us in to a fantastic sight my wife was overwhelmed The Bothy was amazing maintaining its heritage but modern and immaculate as well Price wise it was very good value compared to some I had seen The Bothy sits in the center of the farm and you get to see the cows coming in for milking and the fabulous greets from the farm cats and the dog (my favourite) so friendly If you don't pay a visit here you have missed out be sure we will be back

We had such a nice stay at The Bothy, feel completely relaxed! Susan was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The prosecco, cakes and scones left for us on arrival were such a lovely touch. The Bothy has great facilities, we spent both nights of our stay here and it had everything we needed to make us feel at home! The kitchen was very well equipped - Had everything we needed and more. We loved the décor, which had clearly been very well thought out. We enjoyed a drink in the outdoor seating area before heading back inside to settle down in front of the fire. It is in a great location, very handy for Bassenthwaite and Derwent water. We would definitely recommend Catbells walk (though a bit of climbing is involved!). Wishing we’d booked for longer!

Sad to be leaving tomorrow, we've had a great week away and will definitely be back! Susan the owner couldn't be friendlier or more helpful, a great host. The kids absolutely loved the farm animals in the surrounding fields and really enjoyed the little play area. The highlight for them though was going down in the morning to see if the hens had laid any eggs for their breakfast. Overall a great place whether you're a family or a couple. Plenty of things to do within the local area, we would suggest the Ratty Railway from Ravenglass to Eskdale if you have kids or just stay in and relax in the hot tub! Can't wait to be back!

We have just had a short stay in the Bothy cottage at West house Farm Cottages. What a beautiful place and what a great welcome from Susan. We arrived to scones, clotted cream and jam. Add in cream cakes and a bottle of wine as well. What a way to welcome us. The Bothy is beautifully fitted out to a high level with everything you could need for a relaxing stay in Cumbria. Lots of space but cosy with it. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the proximity to the Lakes or the coast. We will most definitely return very soon. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the Byre just after lockdown 3 had eased and it was a welcome 4 night retreat. Communication with Susan was excellent, especially as we had had to move our booking a few times. On arrival, Susan had kindly decorated the Byre with some balloons, scones, cakes, flowers and even a birthday card for my daughter, it was a lovely gesture and much appreciated. The Byre was clean, spacious and really lovely inside. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were really comfortable and there was a nice touch of style throughout. The were several highlights outside of the accommodation; the hot tub was great, overlooking fields and the mountains and perfect for sunset and star gazing, the little play area right next door was very useful for us as we could watch the children (age 7&8) play from the hot tub, the kids loved checking on the chickens and watching for eggs, they also loved playing with the 2 cats and going to see the calves and cows with Susan. As there are only a few accommodations the place felt safe and everyone we met was friendly. The surrounding area is very quiet as this accommodation is set on a working farm. You need a car but it's close to Maryport (fish and chips) and Cockermouth. We travelled easily by car on decent roads into the amazing lakes each day which took around 25 minutes to reach Keswick/Buttermere/Borrowdale - these areas were so so beautiful and certainly quieter than Windermere/Ambleside. I'd recommend Keswick for a boat trip on Derwent water and a climb of Catbells, a walk to the waterfall in Buttermere and we also did a family abseil and rock climb day with Mark from Mountain Journeys which I would recommend. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the feeling of being far enough away but close to everything and the accommodation was very comfortable with the hot tub adding that extra bit of luxury.

We stayed in The Bothy, a recently renovated farm building which is beautifully decorated and very cosy with its log burner. It's in a great position, away from the crowded places like Windermere, but within touching distance of all the attractions of The Lakes. Cockermouth is a 5 minute drive away for shops, pubs, coffe shops and everything you may need and Maryport is also 5 minutes away, with stunning sunset views over the Scottish mountains. Susan was extremely friendly and welcoming and we look forward to returning again soon.

Just returned from a 3 night break at the little meadow. The cottage is immaculate and well equipped with everything you need! Dishwasher, washer, dryer etc.. when we arrived Sue had left us a bottle of wine and fudge which was a really nice touch. There are gowns and slippers to use. The hot tub is fab (the kids loved spending their afternoons in it). Highly recommend staying here you will not be disappointed! Can’t wait to visit again!

Superbly equipped converted farm building, furnished to a high level and supplied with everything you need including towel robes and slippers! The kitchen has plenty of everything : all of high quality. Although this is on a working farm you are private and you can park outside your door. The hot tub is lovely and you can look over the fields whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly! These cottages are well thought out, spacious, well maintained and spotless. The location is wonderful too - with the lakes, west coast and even Scotland all nearby! We would recommend this venue highly and have just completed our third stay there - it never disappoints and the owners are on hand to help with anything you need. A great find.

This was something totally new for us, renting a cottage deep in the countryside, and taking the dog; so we had some trepidations. Would the dog behave, would the accommodation be as good as promoted etc. We certainly weren't disappointed. Everything was perfect, from the detailed instructions for finding West House Farm, to the warm welcome from Susan's daughter-in-law and everything else we could wish for. I couldn't recommend the Old Byre highly enough. It is situated on a working farm, so the dog was kept at close quarters and generally on a lead, but we were allowed to walk through the farm yard and lanes to observe the cows and farm at work. The Old Byre itself is a a single level converted barn, with an open plan kitchen/living area; two bedrooms, the smaller probably best suited to kids, a bathroom, plenty of storage, and a patio area with a hot tub. Beyond the patio is a small lawn area where chickens are housed, and then a small meadow where six friendly young cows roamed and kept the their eye on us! Further and beyond more fields with more cows and sheep, and a stunning view to the Northern peaks of the Lakes. Hares cavorted in the fields, and house martins (I think!), swooped to their nests in surrounding farm buildings. It is absolutely rural, extremely quiet, peaceful and massively relaxing. Just to watch the sun and clouds change the colour and perspective of the landscape at different times of the day was quite spectacular. The cottage itself is deceptively large, it is clean and well equipped. We wanted for nothing. All told I can't think of anything either of us could fault. This was a wonderful break, and we left wishing we could have had more time. We both agreed we'd be back, (assuming Susan, who is a great host will have us!). We found the Old Byre made a good base for exploring the area. If not obviously, certainly ideally you'll need a car (or cycle). It's really good for Keswick and Derwent Water which we very much enjoyed. Maryport is close and proved very good for dog walking around the harbour and sea wall. We also visited Penrith, Cockermouth, Ullswater, (inc. Glenridding &Aira Force), Buttermere and Windermere as we drove back down South. There really is plenty to see, and obviously the opportunity to get stuck into the traditional pastimes and activities associated with the Lakes. Many thanks to Susan and her family for sharing their farm, livelihood and residence with us townies and our dog. I hope we didn't get in the way or Simba upset the herd with his attempts to prove he was in charge! This was a lovely break and I don't know I've ever been so grouchy on a return to work! Hopefully you'll have us back and we can't wait!
