Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We enjoyed our warn fun stop in Sarlat at Le Jardin Sarlat. Our host Wendy and David were amazing. They focused on comfort and could not have been more welcoming. Our rooms were large and clean. David is a terrific cook who prepared great breakfasts in addition to a lovely buffet. The grounds are especially nice. It was to cold to use the pool. There is good parking and it's a short walk to the center of Sarlat. It's a good value and we would absolutely stay there again.

The house is very nice with a large garden, less than 10 minutes walk from the town centre of Sarlat. David and Wendy are great hosts, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, continental and a hot dish. We will definitely go back when we are in the area again.

I read many of the reviews before posting so I want to say I concur with all the wonderful things that have already been mentioned! I'd also like to tell you what a joy it was to stay with Wendy and David!! I had read David's book, A Garden in Sarlat and it really piqued my interest in visiting the Dordogne. So much so that we made our reservations at Le Jardin first, and then booked the rest of our trip around them. We felt so welcomed and at home there; it was as though we were old friends. There is so much to do in the area, and you won't find better Ambassadors for the Dordogne. Wendy has binders loaded with sites and activities, so you have endless opportunities to see and do so many great things. Our stay at Le Jardin was a highlight of our trip and we look forward to returning!

Wow! Where does one begin (and end)? Wendy & David Prothero are fantastic hosts and, more importantly, fantastic people! So what does this mean? If you want a preview dimension beyond this review, read David's authored book, "A Garden in Salat." We devoted our longest time, a week, regarding our month in France to the Dordogne and the privilege of being Wendy's & David's guests. We are super glad we did. The Le Jardin served as our base of operations to visit the Dordogne castles, forts, botanical gardens, historical sites, hikes and river activities plus enjoying the quintessential French town of Sarlet. Wendy & David offered insider's guidance including clear and easy to follow maps for regional day trips and for top-notch Sarlat dining. Le Jardin is truly a beautiful and relaxing garden to enjoy. Our room and bathroom were very nice. Every morning, David prepared one of his seven hot breakfasts which were outstanding. We delighted in sharing a bottle of wine on the front porch overlooking a bit of Eden. Wendy & David have amazing experiences to share. They are among the warmest and most enjoyable people we now know. Their generosity of care and of heart are indelibly with us and we look forward to maintaining contact and to our next visit. Thank you, Wendy & David! Highly, highly recommend!

We spent 10 days with Wendy and David (and assorted rotating other guests) in this charming “en famille” B & B atmosphere. As previous reviewers have noted, the hosts are very accommodating and go above and beyond to be helpful and to ensure your comfort and enjoyment, and the breakfasts offer a wide selection in the buffet plus a daily hot dish, specialty of chef David. It was a treat to get acquainted with our hosts and, during our extended stay, we had time to relax, enjoy the home (we had read David’s book “Garden in Sarlat” beforehand), soak in the deep soaking tub, and play board games with Wendy and David. I will add a note for those who, like me, have some limitations in mobility. While for brisk walkers, it may take five minutes to reach the heart of the old town, for someone like me, using walking poles, it took about 15 minutes. So, if you have mobility limitations and your intention in visiting Sarlat is to see and experience the old town, you might want to consider staying right in the heart. However, if, like us, you are basing here to see other sites in the Dordogne (prehistoric cave art, chateaux, etc.), then a major advantage of a stay at Le Jardin is being able to park your car right in front and conveniently take off for your day’s adventures. This was a definite plus for us! We were able to enjoy the charming town of Sarlat AND the surrounding area. There are four rooms. We stayed in the Beynac room, a spacious room on the first floor (European for what Americans call the second floor). We had a peek into the Castelnaud room, also on the first floor, and even more spacious. These rooms are nicely arranged and well-appointed, with space to unpack your suitcases completely, organize toiletries (ours had a nice table surface in the bathroom), connect chargers. There was good lighting and a very comfortable bed, not always to be taken for granted! Highly recommend!

Now this B & B is in the Major League. Wendy and David embody hospitality, attention to details, dedication and charm. The Luxurious garden, 5 minute walk from the Old Walled City hides a well appointed, charming and most welcoming gran residence in a very quiet alley. Wendy, a former event organizer had prepared a detailed visit circuit of the region that we would review every morning while sipping our third café over a computer generated map. This routine was preceded by a hot breakfast prepared by David the self-appointed kitchen master. Brilliant as they say in the UK. Highly, highly recommended We arrived as clients we left as friends cliché you say ?? All the superlative reviews of this peaceful retreat are true. Just GO

Our six nights’ stay in June exceeded our expectations. Our English hosts, Wendy and David, were welcoming, warm and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Their beautiful 200 year old house and gardens are more than a home from home, kept in the French style. There is free parking and only a ten minute walk into the heart of the historic town of Sarlat. They are very knowledgeable about local places of interest to visit. There is a varied choice for a buffet breakfast, always including fresh fruit salad plus sliced melon or pineapple. Each morning David offers a different cooked breakfast. Re-fills of tea or coffee are always available. You don’t get all that in most B&B’s! In the guests’ sitting room one can enjoy free coffee, hot chocolate and tea. A fridge with wine and beer was on offer using an ‘honesty’ box system. Bottled water is free. Our very attractive first floor room and bathroom were spacious with plenty of storage. There was a tea and coffee tray in the room with fresh milk kept in the guests’ sitting room. There is so much to commend this B&B jewel, that you really should experience Le Jardin for yourself.

It's all about the owners. Upon arrival we were greeted by a smile, a glass of wine, and a getting to know you conversation, sprinkled with laughter and personal revelations. And the goodbye, although tinged with sadness, was endearing and heartfelt. The owners make their guests feel they are an important part of their lives. It is obvious that their bed and breakfast is a labor of love, and not just an economic enterprise. Their kindness permeated their bed and breakfast like the freshly baked French bread they served at breakfast

We had a fantastic stay at Le Jardin - a pretty B&B, just 5 mins walk from the centre of Sarlat, yet quiet and peaceful with a beautiful, large garden and ample seating areas to relax in between shopping and sightseeing. Our hosts, Wendy and David were superb - efficient, friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful and we particularly enjoyed David's cooked Breakfast Special each day. Delicious French Toast with poached peaches and Welsh Rarebit were wolfed down on a lovely decked balcony overlooking the trees, where you can spotted red squirrels and water voles. Rooms were pretty, light and airy, with all the amenities you'd expect. We'd thoroughly recommend checking Le Jardin out - you won't be disappointed.
