We were looking forward to a stopover at this Medieval place and while the town is very beautiful the accommodation lacks charm. Firstly we were greeted by a member of staff who went on and on in French????//we left to guess. Dinner time was to say uncomfortable........At the restaurant a lady shown us our table and offered an aperitf while...

Dear Boozinhz, Thanks for sharing your opinion about our hotel-restaurant. We regret that you did not appreciate our establishment. All your comments have been communicated . Unfortunately, some day we don't have staff able to speak English. We apologize for that. But as a traveleler you should be more openminded by the fact that in France the official language is...

We had eaten in this hotel twice before and had it on our list to stay the next time that we were in Montlucon. We were not disappointed. The hotel is full of character with just 7 comfortable rooms. Ours was at the top of the building and we heard no noise from any other occupants, although there were others...

Arrived to a very warm welcome and we were given a very spacious room and a very modern and great bathroom! The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful and made our stay complete. The restaurant may be expensive but worth it and the continental breakfast was very good. Would recommend this property to all my friends

This hotel is truly 'tucked away' in the old town and difficult to find at the moment (April 2016) due to road works confounding your Satnav (you go instead up what is marked as a one-way street by the traffic lights but currently isn't!) Rooms are large and perfectly OK apart from a most unusual basin tap arrangement that confounded...

This hotel is beautifully decorated with spacious rooms and fabulous bathrooms. The restaurant is expensive, but not if you take the set menu. We had 3 courses and were actually served 6, with amuse bouches and petit fours etc. A la carte certainly looked pricey but our menu was the best food and value for money we had in France...

Selected as a stop over treat during a long drive from Spain to UK through France. Good food but very expensive - €197 for 2 for started and main, no sides, with 1 bot of wine and no desserts. We were asked to order our dessert before our starter was served so the chef could make dessert ready before he...

Hello, Thanks you for sharing your remarks, However, we are surprised of your comments It seems to have a misunderstanding about your dessert order. For some of our desserts there is 20 minutes of waiting, that's why we ask you before, if you want one of them. But Under no circumstances it is because the chef has to go. Sincerely...

My husband & I along with our 17 year old son decided to break up our journey from the south of France to home near Paris. We saw that Montluçon was a perfect place, but more than it's location, a hotel-restaurant well worth savouring. No regrets... Fabulous cuisine, warm welcome , great service.we highly recommend Le Grenier à Sel!!

Reading other reviews we wondered what the evening would be like. We did not book but turned up and given a table with no fuss. Such a delightful meal. Starters salmon with quinoa and gazpacho de tomates (absolutely delicious), mains lapin and fish followed by dessert. This does not take into account the amuse bouches, etc. OK there were some...

Stayed overnight enroute from North to South --- The "Melanie" bedroom was charming and very comfortable and the bathroom was fabulous. Dinner was delicious, but on a Saturday night charged a la carte --- a common French trick which greatly increased the cost of our stay. Service was patchy --- probably not enough staff for the diners. At 12€ per...

This hotel is located in the heart of the medieval city and the room we stayed in was really beautiful, comfortable, and good value for money. “Room 'Melanie' is lovely. We didn't see the others but would be surprised if they all weren't of the same high standard and value. There are images of the room on the web site. * Practice your French because most staff don't speak much English at all but this just makes the whole experience more authentic and enjoyable!”
