Our stay was truly a unique experience, thanks to the hosts and the location. A traditional house restored with impeccable good taste, with attention to every detail. For nature lovers, the ideal place for relaxation in the absolutely delightful garden, very close to a forest where you can spot deer. Located just three km from a medieval town, the location is perfect for taking a break from the daily hustle and bustle. It is, at the same time, a starting point for trips in an area with idyllic scenery and a centuries-old history. Equally amazing as the location turned out to be the culinary adventure we had during our stay - a culinary treat, of a special refinement, due to Mark’s work. A Michelin-star experience, all 6 days spent here. For those looking for comfort, they will definitely find it here. The spacious room, delicately decorated, spotlessly clean, where everything we needed was provided. For us, this was much more than a successful holiday, but a delight for the soul. Thank you, Clare and Mark, for this wonderful experience!

We stayed at La Metairie des Songes in July 2023 for a 2 night stay. We were warmly welcomed by Mark and Clare, the owners, on our arrival. Our room, Monet, was perfection itself. It was beautifully decorated. There was tea and coffee making facilities, flasks containing iced cold water (which was replenished daily) and a beautiful outlook to the stunning garden. The en-suite was lovely with toiletries provided. We booked in advance for dinner both evenings. This was an incredible experience. The food was sublime. We don’t have enough superlatives to describe the food and its presentation. It puts many Michelin starred chefs to shame. Mark is a phenomenal chef and dining here was the highlight of our holiday. Clare was a most gracious host and nothing was too much trouble. They have an extensive wine list and also delicious pre dinner cocktails. Breakfast was a gastronomic treat, beautifully presented and eaten outside in the stunning garden. Our only disappointment was we had only booked to stay for 2 nights. La Metairie des Songes is an exceptional chambres d’hôtes. It is no surprise to find that it has been placed within the Top Bed & Breakfasts in the entirety of France by Trip Advisor ‘Traveller’s Choice’ for the past ten consecutive years. A very well deserved accolade. We will definitely be back.

An irreproachable host in every respect. Quiet, nature, exquisite food, chosen and wonderfully prepared by Marc from fresh and local produce, impeccable service provided daily by Claire. Marc provided us with a culinary adventure every day. A little gastronomic delight was delivered to us at every dinner. Very good wine selection. We tried almost all of those recommended by the hosts. Wonderful, discreet people who made us forget about work and relax. We will endeavour to come back even if it is some 2500 km away. Thank you very much for everything. Later edit: We almost forgot Isaac, the most discreet of them all, the family's hairy one, the one who shyly followed us from the kitchen where he seemed to be his boss's boss.

We were spoiled for four days in the wonderful B&B La Metairie des Songes in the beautiful surroundings of Gourdon. The day started with a delicious, varied and attractively presented breakfast on the terrace. In the evening, the culinary delights followed each other. And that accompanied by the best wines and served in a pleasant way. The photos are of all courses on 1 evening. Mark also took into account the fact that we do not eat meat. He did his best to serve vegetarian dishes and succeeded very well. In addition, Mark and Clare are humble and very friendly hosts. We rarely return to a holiday address, but we make an exception for La Metairie des Songes. We will be back.

Just exceptional! I had the very best of positive experiences - total relaxation. The bedroom was furnished throughout with great attention to detail; the atmosphere is a warm and cosy country house. Spacious up to date bathrooms - has walk in rain showers, dressing gowns, and complete toiletry sets. Breakfast was another real delight, featuring seasonal fruit, juice, big basket of home-baked breads, croissants, homemade jams and delicious savoury nibbles. The best petit déjeuner you will ever receive! Total value for Money. I left wanting to pay more for my stay!

Clare and Mark are warm and friendly hosts but at the same time extremely professional. The attention to detail in every aspect of your stay makes for perfect relaxation. The accommodation is beautiful and then there is the food! Dinners are first class and breakfast is the most interesting and best I have ever had. Highly recommended!

Sometimes you hear that you shouldn't go back to a place where you once had a good time. But in this case that would be a big mistake. The second time around can be even better. We stayed in a lovely spacious room, Van Gogh and we enjoyed again the most fabulous dinner and breakfast. We plan our holidays around the availability of this great place. It's certainly worth the journey as they say in the Michelin guide.

We received a warm welcome at Clare and Mark’s beautiful home. Our room was lovely, full of character and spotlessly clean. The highlight of our stay was the food. Without exaggeration, this was of Michelin-star standard. Not only was every course presented like a work of art, the balance of textures and flavours was amazing. A meal of similar standard elsewhere would probably cost three times as much and even then, it would be difficult to obtain the same level of style and substance. We hope very much to return to this beautiful area and to Clare and Mark’s delightful accommodation.

A superb stay with hosts who have an excellent eye for detail and creativity, both in terms of cuisine and decor. Delicious breakfasts and dinners in beautiful surroundings, and potential to explore the Dordogne. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

A wonderful location, a fantastic house and garden! Very friendly and discrete reception. The service is perfect. They have thought on every little detail. And last but not least: the food is fabulous, a very high level of gastronomy! We enjoyed our stay very much and we will surely come back, just to be spoiled and make some nice walks in the region.
