Auberge du Bon Fermier opened its doors as a Royal Mail relay post in 1560 and has not shut in over 450 years. The present patron Thierry Beine is a master chef always smiling and full of Gallic charm. The hotel retains many features from its bygone past-cobbled open entrance and wonderful brick features in most of the rooms. The...

great location, fantastic food. the location is very authentic and you feel really a guest. The chef also comes to your table to make sure you are ok and advices personally on the wine. The restaurant is so nice! and very handy you can sleep in the hotel above. The hotel rooms are ok, not very luxurious, but just ok

We stayed at the Auberge du Bon Fermier for one night as a stop-off on our way further South. I chose it largely because of the reviews which raved about the food. We were disappointed. The room was chilly, the over-bath shower had no curtain or screen, so water went every which way. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in...

We were amazed when we first saw this hotel - we couldn't believe how preserved it's building was- it was like being transported back in time with old beams, a cobbled courtyard, and the most amazing decor. We felt we had struck gold with this one!!! And we were not disappointed the service was supurb a special mention for Anna...

You have a pork cook in The fire place, The same recipe since 1975. But not enough Tasty. But It's a Nice expérience...

The last night of our two week holiday was spent here and what a way to crown two wonderful weeks. Our room R was just oozing with character, with plenty of room and a very comfortable bed. Luckily we had reserved a table in the restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful meal and were warmed by the open fire over...

Lovely interesting building, easy parking, staff ok, brown bathroom suite from the er 1970's, but I thought the food would be better or in the case of the local sausage actually edible. I could not recommend the brasserie at the hotel and my colleague would not stay there again based on the food. Maybe the main restaurant is better but...

Lovely old French Auberge. Central to the town. Parking on the street, free for us as it was Sunday and free until 9.30 on the Monday. Big room with period furniture, a good size bathroom. A mix up with breakfast but it got sorted, cereals, croissants, bread, cheese and jam. €11 each. We ate in the restaurant and food was very...

The Auberge de Bon Fermier Hotel We were on route to the Spa GP taking the opportunity to stop over at a few places on our way. We chose Valenciennes with a pin in the map but we chose Auberge de Bon Fermier from its good TA reviews. We were both so glad that we did. The hotel is a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Comfortably established after four hundred years of existence. All spruced up, it offers its Henry IV style, interpreted with regional inspiration in its proportions, harmoniously decorated in total respect for the region and its history. When Louis XIV made his “joyful return” to Valenciennes in August 1680, the Auberge was called “A la Ville de Troyes”. A souvenir of the great fairs of Champagne, with the travellers, salesmen and drapers stopping in our town to rest and restore their strength.in the hearth, there would be capons and haunches of meat roasting with a stew bubbling in fat jugs, swaying with the bawdy songs which barely covered the sounds of horses and their hooves on the round paving stones in the courtyard. The inn had a great reputation; Jacques Fontaine managed the establishment until 1701 and its successors’ were still roasting in the fireplace in 1789. ... more   less
