Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Auberge is a very quiet place, the personnel very friendly and for the car there is a protected place to park. The room has everything one needs. And all the important cultural items of Péronne are nearby.

Two basic problems were the lack of a receptionist and access to the parking area. The two problems were obviously linked. For these reasons alone we cannot recommend this Auberge. There were minor gripes about the breakfasts, the wi-fi and the rooms but if you cannot access the parking and the receptionist does not exist and calls to the suggested mobile are ignored the result is chaos.

We arrived here at about 1pm. We rang the doorbell to enter and check in, however no-one answered. We rang the two numbers given on a piece of paper behind the glass door and we had no answer. We rang the numbers a few times and to no reply. We ended up eating our lunch on the nice park-area behind and tried again. One number finally rang through! We were let in at about 3 O'Clock and were given a key. There was five of us staying there, and when we opened the door to the room there was only 4 beds! We spoke to the woman on the desk, who spoke quite good English, and she gave us a card to a room with 5 beds as we had booked. The room was nice, lots of space and an ensuite bathroom. There was two bunk beds and one single bed. It also had two small balconys, a wardrobe and a desk and chair. The bathroom was clean but simplistic, it had a toilet, sink and mirror. The shower was wheelchair accessible. The beds were also clean, with a pillow, sheet and duvet for every bed. The next morning, we had breakfast in the hotel. There was no hot food but there was a nice continental breakfast. It included traditional French pastrys such as crossaints, madalines and pain au chocolats. There was toast, cereal and bread with jams and nutella. The drinks were coffee, tea Orange juice and milk. The restaurant area was clean, nice and modern so 5 stars for the breakfast. Overall, it was a nice and clean hotel with a contintental breakfast however we had a few difficulties checking in.

Stayed with a group of air cadets on a battlefield tour of the Somme, 43 staff & cadets in total. Vincent couldn't have been more helpful & his mother cooks an excellent beef carbonnade. Breakfast was fine, fresh bread & croissants with continental breakfast. A few snags were quickly sorted, free wi-fi that worked through the hostel. No complaints from cadets or staff, rooms were clean & beds comfortable. A good base from which to explore the region, would definitely stay again if we do another tour to the Somme.

What a superb hostel/hotel this is. Right in the heart of Peronne in Somme region. Very close to WW1 sites. The hostel is clean and comfortable serving a continental breakfast and a very satisfying evening meal if required. Maria, your host, is very charming and speaks very good English. I would recommend this for groups although Maria will also cater for individuals if space allows. Maria will also be able to recommend WW1 sites to visit.

Clean and basic, very good value. Breakfast was OK, no other meals offered. Only criticism is that when we arrived (pre-booked) at 2130, the Hotel was dark and locked. We had to ring a mobile phone number to speak to the receptionist who attended promptly and was very helpful. Although it looks uninviting from the outside, it is modern and functional inside. Thought it was good value. Although I was the sole occupant of the room, there were 4 bunk style beds so would have been suitable for. 1 night stop for a family.

We arrived by coach and judging by the appearance of the place, we knew it wouldn't be pleasant and we were right. The rooms were very cramped and outside looked like a prison. The food was poor also, one of the meals was fish, the fish was so oily you could cook chips on it. At breakfast we had bread and my friend noticed a bit of mould on the end and then before tea the same piece was in the basket from the morning. The bathroom was so complicated also, a shower room and sink and then a separate room for a toilet? The bedding well that was awful we didn't have duvet covers so we had to use just the duvet that someone had used before us clearly, talk about low standards! Wi-Fi barely worked. No air conditioning either it was so humid! We were told that we weren't allowed to open the window at night because we'd apparently get unwanted attention from lads on the street. The cleaners apparently refused to not clean our rooms mid week due to "messiness" but to be honest the room was filthy anyways, hair in the sink and in the plug hole, good job I brought cleaning items. The only good thing was the huge park around the corner which was amazing to explore and have a kick about.

When we arrived here after just over an 18 hour journey on a cramped bus we were told our rooms were not ready, we had to go to our first activity with no clean clothes, just what we had on when we left our school at 7o'clock the night before. Everyone was unhappy because we all felt disgusting after the long ride on the bus. Several hours later when we arrived at the hostel (we were told it was a hotel so that was surprise) the manager was very unpleasant about the rules, shouting about getting flung out and sent on an aeroplane home with a member of staff. First of all the wifi was absolutely terrible, sometimes it worked and most of the time it didn't. When we eventually got to our rooms (I was sharing with 3 other girls so there were 4 of us) it was very very cramped for 4 people let alone the girls who were sharing with 6 or even 8! The beds were not made upon arrival and the floor was disgusting (also a lot of cobwebs and flies on the roof above the beds) . There were 2 bunkbeds, 2 small drawers and 2 large ones attached to the bunk beds and a large drawer under the bottom bunk bed for more storage. In my room one of the small drawers did not open and the manager was very unpleasant about finding the key to open it, which made it even more difficult for storage space. After that huge amount of time on the bus all we wanted was a hot shower, but to our surprise there was NO hot water in the hostel. The manager took a very long time in phoning someone to fix this problem. At dinner time, there was no choice to what we wanted to eat. It was a take it or leave it situation. The food was also disgusting and undercooked (NOT to any 15 year olds satisfaction) Our part of the hostel had all girls in a long line of rooms next to each other, the rooms overlooked a large path with a long walkway. The rooms had a huge window and only a small fence to keep us away from the people on the other side. We had some rowdy older boys a lot of the time who would often shout at us to come and drink with them. This was a huge problem because the room was so small with a very very dull light, leaving the oversized window the only source of good lighting. We had to keep the (dirty) curtains open and the window because it was very very warm in the rooms at all times. Our beds being so close to the window made this a huge problem as we were only a small amount of space away from someone getting in or trying to grab one of us. Another issue was the toilet. The toilet was separate from the shower as the shower was a wet room (the sink, radiator, and the only mirror in the WHOLE room were also in the wet room) Because there were 4 of us we all had to get a shower at least once every night. We thought there was no point turning the water off as we would go in one after the other to make it quicker and also save the hot water. The plug in the wet room was so clogged the water would spill out onto the floor in our bed area where our valuables were. Several towels were put down but no where to dry them as the radiator in the wet room was permenantely turned off. When we had our showers, brushing our teeth was a huge problem, after we had got all ready we would have to go and brush our teeth. Walking all over the absolutely soaking floor to get to the sink and the sink to be covered in shower water, our toothbrushes also. One other concern was the stubborn cleaners. On the second day some rooms (including my room) were called down to the games room for a chat with the manager. We were told our rooms had not been cleaned due to the mess (she made it out as if the cleaners could not move for all the mess) in the mornings our activities were very early so there was no time to clean the room, we cleaned the room at night as we thought this would be easier for us in the morning. After being shouted at for several minutes we went back to our rooms to find stuff on the table had been moved and all the drawers were open. The only item that was on the floor in the room was a pyjama tshirt one of us hadn't picked up in the morning (this was the reason the cleaners wouldn't touch our room!!!) What a disgrace, calling this a hostel would be an insult. There are homeless shelters with better accommodation than this. I definitely do NOT recommend staying here!!!

Our group really enjoyed their 2 night stay at auberge des remparts. The rooms were clean and the location was perfect to start exploring the Somme battlefields. Breakfast and diner were great and the students particularly enjoyed the "ficelle Picarde". Staff were friendly and the manager helped me assist one of our students who was sick. She also recommended an excellent Australian guide and the packed lunch on the day were copious and delicious. Another group was also present at the same time as us. The curfew rules were appreciated by our teachers as we could recover from our long flight from Australia. We will definitely stay there again in 2017.
