Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came upon La Chapelle d'Abandance because it is on the GR 5 hiking trail through the French Alps. After walking eight hours and still not to town, we hitched a ride with people we met at Chalets de Bise, a popular dairy farm high in the mountains where people go to watch the cows come home in the afternoon, sample home-made cheese, and have a beer. To be more precise, we were sweaty, exhausted, and could hardly take another step when we walked into the hotel. It was instantly our oasis. We were welcomed, escorted to our rooms, offered any help we needed. The rooms are decorated in keeping with the chalet architecture of the town, well appointed, very clean and comfortable. We were so tired we never even got to the indoor swimming pool. Dinner and breakfast were great, and a walk around town before starting out again on the trail in the morning showed a very manicured, civilized ski resort that has everything you need for a nice summer stay as well.

Stayed for 3 nights in March, booked last minute and was extremely impressed with the value for money, the great service, the spacious family room, great facilities including the pool and the wonderful cusine. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. We will be back again.

We went with some friends who had eaten here a number of times. There were a number of great fixed price menus and we had the cheapest at around £25.

I am well travelled and have eaten in some pretty good places but this meal was simply superb. To top it off, the service was prompt and friendly, just brilliant.

My friend has begged me not to put a review on TripAdvisor in case the place gets flooded with people and spoilt as a consequence. I couldn't stop myself.

We visited this hotel a couple of times before actually deciding to stay there and when we did we were not disappointed.

The first thing that strikes you is the friendliness and professionalism of the Trincaz family. They make you feel at home right away without being overbearing or intrusive.

The quality of the rooms is excellent (we shared a big room with our 13-year old son) and it had a separate bathroom and toilet. The hotel has nice terraces (also directly accesible from the rooms) and beautiful views. But the best part is the food which is of exceptionally high standard. Every evening, resident guests are requested to select their meals for the next evening. A typical meal consists of an entree, a main course, a cheese platter and a dessert. The food on offer varies from more tradional 'terroir' specialities such as Berthoud or raclette to more elaborate french cuisine. Kids' menues are available as well.

The hotel boasts a spa which includes a swimming pool, hammam and jacuzzi, which is great after a day of skiing or snow boarding. Our only problem with the swimming pool was the very high chlorine content, which was due to a mishap with the pumping system, but this was sorted out the next day. Another minus point (otherwise I would have given 5 stars overall) was the wifi. The connection was not very stable, which rendered connecting to the internet a frustrating experience.

The hotel is right in the middle of the village but rooms (at least ours) have double glazing and there was no traffic noise.

All in all, highly recommended and we will definitely be back next year.

Right in the centre of the village this was a delightful venue for our family lunch. The food was very well prepared and served on a beautiful terrace above the main road. The whole experience on a warm summers day could not have been better. The staff and overall ambiance were of a very high standard. We shall look forward to coming again. Thank you L'Ensoleille.

Stopped here for an evening meal during a long distance walk with a large group of friends, despite giving short notice the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful and all local dishes. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food and service received.

We had an awful shock when we went in, we thought our beloved Les Cornettes had been gutted and modernised. Only when we left did we realise that the Cornettes was still there next door.
To be fair this is an excellent hotel but unashamedly modern and smart. It is owned by the same family as next door and is really very good.
We only went for a drink and to check out the menu.

We have just stayed for a long weekend at this hotel. Everything and I mean everything was perfect from the moment we were greeted by the staff to the room and restaurant. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff and it made our trip very special. The restaurant was of a very high standard and the hotel facilities were of a very high standard. Location 10 minutes from Chatel and one and a quarter hour drive from Geneva. We will be visiting again great base to explore the mountains.

We went on a skiing trip during half term, couldn't get into anywhere actually in Chatel so turned to Chapel de Abondance. It's 10 mins drive from the main slopes in Chatel, but also has it's own small selection too. The hotel was excellent, rooms were lovely and modern (we had a suite for 2 x adults and one munchkin). We were in the main part of the hotel recently refurberd. Sonia, part of the family that owns the place was superb. Couldn't do enough for us, including translating the menu each night (our French is not too hot!). Food was fantastic, hearty and almost Michellin standard. I'd go again like a shot, Chapel is not your place if you want big night life but it's beautiful and very convenient and the hotel is a great find. We'll be back next year!
