My wife and I stayed here from the 11/1 to the 18/1/20.
Everyone at the hotel were really friendly and very helpful.
Restaurant was clan and the food/service was very good.
Only a short walk to the snow, to get skis on and the ski lifts were very close

Stopped for lunch - has all the 'normal' options you'd expect. Fish and chips were really good and prices are fairly expensive but as you'd expect. Really good location in the centre of Tignes. Staff were very efficient.

We had a lovely room with a view of the glacier and a balcony. The room was very comfortable, individually furnished, with good size bathroom with bath, power shower over, and lots of hot water.

Convenient location in Tignes le Lac, next to shops, ski bus stop, supermarket, ski hire, main cable car, ski school meeting place, and we could ski to chairlifts from behind the hotel.

There is a set menu each night usually comprising a starter, main course, cheese and dessert. Much of the food is regional specialities and like my friend, you may be surprised at how much you enjoy some of these local dishes you may never have tried before. I enjoyed all of the meals including the delicious French fondue and seafood buffets – and every single one of the incredible desserts! I do not eat meat or chicken and the hotel appreciates advance warning of any dietary requirements so they can plan in alternatives. The continental breakfast buffet had lots of choice, fresh coffee, tea and juice, and was always well stocked throughout breakfast.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, turkish bath, sauna and bar with wi-fi access. The proprietors and all of their staff are friendly and looked after us extremely well, with respect to rooms, food, ski pass, car parking, even recommending ski routes for us. We drove down to Tignes and stayed for 8 days half board with ski pass included.

This is a very special hotel, the food, service and hospitality are amazing and we would love to stay again.

Having read the crystal description about the menu, I can say with no doubt it does not match the description. 6 nights of a la carte food with excellent presentation but not what is needed after 6-7 hours skiing. Carrot around the world being one dish, A CARROT is not a lie. One carrot done three different ways! The food is very rich and after a couple of days it’s is too much.

No cake and mulled wine after skiing in the afternoon as per all other alpine resorts that we have booked with Crystal.

No satellite TV, or if it did, they only provide French channels and after 8pm only one station is available.

The hotel is trying to be something they are not. A la carte menu 6 days a week but in the hotel room only paper cups are provided to drink a morning cup of tea/coffee. The bathroom was cleaned each day but the black mould on the silicone sealant around the bath was still there on day 7!

Be careful, the coffee offered after the evening meal is not part of the half board package and will cost you €7.50 per cup.

Breakfast at best average and at worst a shambles.

All staff were very pleasant and worked hard under sometimes difficult circumstances. i.e power cuts at breakfast and staff shortages at breakfast.

I think that the hotel needs to get back to basics.

The hotel appears to be in transition from what it was (a brilliant place we went back to year after year, where the guest was always put first) to whatever it is the new management want it to be.

Dinner started at 1930 and took nearly two hours *every single night*. Not ideal for families with children who have ski school the next morning... They didn't seem able to serve food any faster and were largely inflexible with catering for children. On some nights there was only one option on the menu - so if you didn't want to eat foie gras or veal, then there wasn't anything else. Our daughter ended up eating a lot of bread!

There was a lack of thought put into things - for example, tea and coffee were available in rooms, but milk sachets were five months out of date. New ones were promised, but staff were unfortunately too busy to be able to follow through... Paper cups were provided for use in the rooms, but these weren't replaced which meant that they weren't fit for purpose after a few days.

The website advertised cake in the afternoons, but it wasn't provided. When this was queried and the website shown to staff, they just said that the website was out of date... and so on and so on.

The owner Serge seems helpful but has many rules. He is friendly , unless you want something, then he will complain, and probably give in.

Wifi access in your room means = 1 login . So if you have a laptop, and an ipad, and a phone, or 2 laptops- you can expect to pay an additional 35 euros per login. You can also hem and haw to get another login, but if you ask for 3 it's impossible.

The rooms have no glasses/cups, silverware, fridge.
We did hang some food out the window in a plastic bag and that stayed cold so we were ok without the fridge.

We asked to borrow a wine bottle opener and the owner acted like we asked to borrow his car. He did open the bottle, and offered glasses though and we accepted.

The rooms are old, non-updated for at least 10-20 years, except for a flat screen tv.

The walls are thin, and there is no privacy, in the room or between rooms.

You can put the - Do not disturb sign on your door- and the maids will take it down and enter your room anyway and clean it every single day. They will also wake you up in the morning, not just by knocking but actually opening the room and saying "pardon" after seeing you still in bed, every morning.

The coffee is good, and the croissants are good when they are available.

The room was small.

I'd give it a 2-2.5 stars, since the hotel we stayed in the night before here in Paris- Mercure, was far superior and more modern. That was a 3 stars hotel.

The ski room to keep your skis and boots was very convenient.

Our room was absolutely tiny. It was like staying in a cupboard under the stairs and I expected Harry Potter to pop up at any moment. We didn't have a balcony or a view (we looked straight on to the building next door), and you could hear everything from the rooms next door. Our transfer home was at 4am but there was no hot water at that time to be able to have a shower to wake ourselves up. There was only one barmaid so when it got busy, we had to wait for ages to get drinks. No weather reports were in the hotel. There weren't enough lockers for everyone's skiis, and it certainly wasn't "ski in, ski out" as advertised (although the location is still good). The food was nice but pretty pretentious.

I stayed at this hotel over the new year 2014/2015 and despite many complications and late arrivals/ departures due to severe weather conditions the staff were friendly and organised from the minute we arrived. the hotel is situated only 2 minutes from the lifts and has a lovely sauna, pool, jacuzzi area. the food is amazing with 5 star meals serves every night. all the staff are very friendly and make you feel right at home getting to know you very well :) i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in tignes. the price is very much worth it for the food and other things included. definitely somewhere to go back to!

Myself and my partner have just spent a week in Tignes and while there are some plus points I'm afraid our overwhelming experience was one of disappointment.

Starting with the location - it's great if you want gorgeous views and want to be right on the slopes.

Onto the hotel. Reception staff are friendly as long as you don't have a complaint or ask them to do anything out of the ordinary. Reception shuts at 10 pm with no night porter that I could see. Bar shuts at 11pm, and don't even chance your arm of asking to buy a coke at 11 pm to take back to your room!

There was a locker room for your skis which was great but at the same time a nightmare if there was more than 4 of you in there at once (which there always was, especially in the morning).

Talking of the room. There was just the 2 of us and we were constantly squeezing past each other. If we had even just one more person I wouldn't have a clue where their stuff would fit? Decor is dated and the walls are paper thin. Yu can hear what's happen in the room next door. Free Wi-Fi was a major plus. Room was clean and reasonably well equipped. Heating was also temperamental.

Spent a week at the Gentiana with a group of 14 skiers. Our 22nd year as a group and this is by far the best hotel we've stayed at in the alps. Location great, rooms good, food excellent, staff friendly and efficient. Special thanks to Serge & Pavel for their patience in organising our rooms, passes and transfers and to the Chef for the Burns Night haggis and deep fried Mars Bars! A great week.
