So there are few recent reviews so I thought I would pop one in. We stayed recently but also 18 months ago and cannot fault the lodge. Will and the team are consistently great - accommodating, relaxed and the food (and wine) was plentiful and hearty - don’t expect a cheese course, but don’t expect to go hungry! They worked around my kids’ fussiness and we all had full bellies. This is not a fancy high end chalet - this is a chill, home from home place where you are made to feel like part of the family, part of the gang. Location is perfect, very short walk to the centre (5 mins) and an even shorter walk to the edge of a slope where you can ski down to access lifts for higher. We had one of the separate apartments both times we stayed and we LOVED that option as we had enough space to live in complete chaos of snow kit. We will be back and if you want to hang out with one of the coolest snowboarders in town, then stay at Dragon Lodge. We miss it already!

A welcoming atmosphere for families, groups of friends or those in trips by themselves. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff are what make the Dragon Lodge Europe’s most reputable snowboard lodge. Amazing food and a relaxed vibe *****

Great value, relaxed environment. Accommodation is basic but the important boxes are ticked: clean, plenty of hot water, good Wi-Fi & great food (see below).

The accommodation can be split into units of various sizes, taken as a whole group or anything in between. I would recommend Dragon Lodge for large groups, familys (probably best to rent a whole unit) & solos. If a couple, either take a complete unit for yourselves or accept there will be some mucking in of facilities.

The evening meals are homely, hearty & comforting three course meals but don’t think they are not very well prepared, there’re fantastic - curry, spag Bol & choc fondant particular favourites with me. Other guests highlights were the beef bourguignon, goats cheese salad starter. The care to cater to guests likes and dislikes & even preferences is remarkable. The breakfast was a bit basic for my tastes but you can cook your own eggs etc, so an easy work around.

Thank you so much Ed, Kate & Will

This place is an awesome base for a skiing holiday in Tignes. Comfy beds, friendly vibes, amazing food and nothing is too much trouble. Loved this place and it’s not surprising so many people return every year. Will definitely be heading back.

Staying at Dragon Lodge was a seamless, fun and chilled experience; a tough task to achieve for a group of 22 young adults. All of us would go back in an instant and I can’t recommend this chalet enough.

FOOD
The chef, Dan, is extraordinarily good and I’ve been to my fair share of top restaurants. This wasn’t like going home to a really nice home cooked meal (which is the vibe you’d expect from a chalet catering for 22), it was like stepping into a Michelin-starred restaurant every day. Dan played around with flavours and clearly put a lot of thought into making each starter, main and dessert complement each other. Portions were huge yet everyone licked their plate clean: you can’t waste food like that.

I’m a coeliac and Dan had seamlessly twisted the whole menu to be gluten free. It’s the first time I’ve been able to devour the same pudding as everyone else – there was no fruit cocktail substitution here: we’re talking tarts and pies and cheesecakes. No issues with nut allergies or very tricky vegetarians either. I would go back for the food alone.

Fresh cakes were ready on the table for whenever you got back and you could help yourself to teas and coffee.

Breakfast was quite basic with cereal, pain au chocolats, croissants, French baguettes and various spreads.

LOCATION

A three minute walk uphill gets you to the final leg of a blue piste which you can join and ski/board down to a chairlift. Alternatively, an 8 minute walk downhill will get you to the main Tignes Le Lac hub which can get you anywhere.
The bars, après, clubs and restaurants were all within 10 minutes of walking (even in heavy snow). Location was ideal. Ask the chalet hosts for suggestions on where is good.

HOSTS

Aside from being an exquisite chef, Dan was super friendly and gave tons of advice on where to go and where’s best in what weather, which flat pistes to avoid as a snowboarder etc. He even adjusted my bindings for me after I said I felt like my legs were twisting.

Will and Hollie, the chalet hosts, were insanely chilled and super sweet. They stayed up and drank with us for a bit and joined in with board games. They pretty much became a part of our group. They even went to the shop to buy me gluten free bread and snacks so I could bring them for lunch!

These guys will fit in with groups of all ages (including kids).

CHALET

I think we were pushing the limits of the Lodge a bit with our group of 22 as room around the table was a bit tight but not unmanageable. I stayed on the lower ground floor where there were three decent sized bedrooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC which was fine between the seven of us in those three bedrooms.
I know another floor had their own small living room space which is why this place would work well to book ‘part of’ the chalet though clearly we were content being a large group too!

This is definitely a place I hope to visit again in the next few years – I hope Hollie, Will and Dan don’t leave before I have a chance to come back!

Thanks for the review ABakke, great to hear you and the group had a fun week at the lodge - Dan, Will & Hollie said how much they enjoyed it! Good food is of course really important to us and we certainly don't believe that if you have any special dietary requirements (from veggie/vegan diets to food intolerance or allergies however mild or serious...) you should settle for a poor substitute option. We have many return guests who come back year after year, so hope to see you and the group back at the lodge in the future - the guys will all be back next season so will hopefully see you then!

We stayed over the Christmas period. Communication while book the accommodation was poor sometimes waiting weeks for a response from the owner.

When we arrived in Tignes the directions to the accommodation given over the phone were inaccurate, leaving us to drive around for 20 minutes after a 13 hour journey.

When we got settled we found the rooms to be too small, not able to stand up-right, with the beds being of such low quality that we decided to stack them and put the mattresses on the floor.

We found old makup containers in our room which brought into question the effort put into cleaning.

When we got down stairs for the first time we made ourselves coffee and noticed there was lipstick on the rim of one of the cups.

We found that set meal times were often missed by as much as two hours, although when it arrived the food was good.

The staff at Dragon Lodge were not very professional, often dropping personal issues into the conversation as reasoning for why things are not going to plan; I.e. "dinner is going as good as my hangover".

One morning we came down for breakfast only to find a random person, non-guest, sleeping on the sofa. On another occasion the chalet host, due to make breakfast, didn't turn up, leaving guests riffling through the kitchen and storage cupboards "making do".

When I called the landlord to complain, the chalet host arrived, made breakfast, and then fell asleep on the sofa in front of us before we'd even finished.

The staff say that they are trying to deliver Crystal-Ski type service, in a more personal way, but what they fail to realise is that a personal experience is about doing something personal for the guest and not the staff.

There is certainly a demographic that Dragon Lodge cater to; student like, limited budget, laid back, grunge.

I expected more, I expected Chrystal Ski standards, it was disorganised, slack, unnecessarily intimate and lacking in both facilities and hygiene.

Something else to bear in mind is that the Wireless Internet is not available in the apartments above the chalet.

We had a fantastic week in Tignes, great resort and great slopes. Dragon Lodge was in a good location, really easy going friendly guys running the Lodge, chilled out atmosphere and really good food every night.
A few let downs though, although we never expected 5star the rooms were very basic. There was only one key for each room when we arrived, apparently the previous guests had lost them all, and it took 3 days for us to get copies (tricky when there are a few to a room). Our shared room for 4 had no light in the toilet and no hot water in the shower all week so we had to use other peoples showers. These weren't fixed all week despite us asking a few times. There was also a very strong smell of sewage in the lower floor of the building where most of the bedrooms are which wasn't very nice to wake up to.
I agree the Lodge is great for a big group of guys who don't mind about the standards of accommodation but for a 'fussy missus' like me I won't be going back

Don't hesitate - book it (seriously)! I was slightly wary when a friend wrote to say she had booked a lodge (mini apartment) within the dragon lodge for the week of Christmas. How wrong was I, we arrived to a brilliantly welcoming group of hosts who are all boarders, skiers so therefore know all there is to know about the area and have no hesitation of pulling a few favours with their friends to make your stay as easy as possible. Hiring gear? They will have it delivered and collected. Ski pass ready on arrival - tick. Need a dinner reservation at a booked out restaurant - these guys will make it happen. Although you may not want it... as Dave the Chef serves up simply fantastic food every night...you might just decide to skip lunch so that your appetite is piqued. I'm always a bit reluctant to feel like I 'have to' join in with other groups on these type of holidays, I'm on holiday after all and want a bit of 'me time', who can be bothered, right? But before long I was in full social mode...they make it just too relaxing and easy but allow you to drop in and out as you please. Lastly (the absolute sign of good hosting) on the day we were to leave a snow drop made it impossible to get down the mountain and while guests in other hotels, lodges were forced to head to the sports hall for emergency accommodation, it was no problem for us, they simply let us stay the extra night at no extra cost, Dave even turned up and fed us. Thanks to Will, Frankie and Dave for a simply fantastic Christmas - I'll be back!

We spent a week here earlier this year, and the team that run it - Harry, Tom and Will - are brilliant hosts who genuinely go out of their way to make sure you have a good stay. The food was great, and they endlessly friendly and helpful at all times of the day - the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. You can easily join the nearest piste in a three minute walk and it's a very short stroll into Le Lac. Would thoroughly recommend it.
