Came here June 2023. The place has been done up and it’s fantastic. Food was delicious - I’d recommend the lamb ragu. Service was good. Prices are very reasonable. Will definitely come back again soon.

During a recent mini-trip around the Scottish coast I booked into the Holiday Inn having been impressed by the positive reviews. My daughter is a vegetarian with specific food allergies so I always check the menu in advance before booking. The Holiday Inn duly emailed me a menu which was fine, with several veggie options. On arrival we discovered that the hotel had introduced a special Sunday menu which was entirely different to the one that I had been sent the day before. There was only one veggie option which my daughter couldn’t eat. I explained the situation to the restaurant staff but the woman in charge of the restaurant seemed totally uninterested and made no effort to remedy the situation.
Fortunately the lady at the reception desk suggested some alternative places to eat and we ended up in a local pub/restaurant which was really good. However this meant that we had to walk a mile and a half there and back in the rain which was not ideal.
The room itself was very comfortable with great facilities and an absolute bargain for the price we paid. We decided to spend another night in Aberdeen but chose to stay at another hotel close by (where we had eaten on the previous night) - this turned out to be a much happier experience.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Aberdeen West for 1 night and then came back 2 days later and stayed 2 nights. When we arrived for the first night, we were early but they checked us in with no problem. We were very grateful for this as I was actually very sick and needed to lie down.
The bedroom was comfortable and had proper mugs and biscuits too!
It also had iron/ironining board in the room. For breakfast, we can go anytime till 10am. We love the variety of options for breakfast, you can help yourself to continental, which included oranges and bananas. The juices were individual small cartons, water were bottled and they had fruit bars too! This made us feel safer as we opened them ourselves.
The cooked breakfast was great, I was able to have my haggis, tomatoes and mushrooms, which I didn't get in Edinburgh branch! They took us to our table and immediately asked whether we would like Tea or Coffee. The restaurant staff were brilliant and served us with a smile.
Overall, we certainly felt more relaxed and taken care off here. Thank you Holiday Inn Aberdeen West!

Room was okay, seemed to be made up for one person (judging by number of towels and pillows) and this was confirmed when only one continental breakfast was delivered in the morning. To their credit this was fixed within about 5 minutes of phoning reception, and the reception staff and restaurant staff were very polite and friendly. The current free bagged breakfast contains a carton of fruit juice, yogurt, cereal bar, croissant, apple, jam and butter. Everything as expected for a Holiday Inn, but the Smart TV wasn’t set up to the hotel’s WiFi and needed a password, unlike the guest network, so the Smart features were unusable.

This hotel advertises itself as a pet friendly hotel. I called in advance to make sure it definitely was dog friendly and was told they loved dogs staying. Upon arrival I was advised that the dog wasn’t allowed basically anywhere except our room. They had nothing set up for us to even have a drink without leaving the dog on his own in the hotel room. I pointed out they had a beer garden and they eventually relented and told us we could have drinks and food there with our pooch. We went down to the beer garden and I can honestly say the service was the most appalling service I have ever experienced. The staff were concentrating on the patrons in the restaurant and I constantly had to go inside asking for service.
Do not visit this hotel if you have a pet with you. It is far from pet friendly. We are currently back in room at 7 pm as there is nowhere for us to spend time In the hotel with our dog. I will definitely never be back here again!!!

Dear noams1973 I would like to thank you for raising the issues that you experienced during your stay with us last weekend. We aim to exceed our guest’s expectations and I regret to hear that we failed on this occasion. Unfortunately as we are working within the governments evolving guidelines, our Scott’s Bar is currently closed. This is usually the area where dogs can sit with their owners while enjoying a drink, however the Bar is not big enough to accommodate drinkers while following the strict distancing guidelines that are presently in place. Regrettably, dogs are not been allowed within our restaurant due to food being served. Thank you for raising the issue you experienced with your service in the beer garden. We aim for the highest standards. I will discuss the points you have raised with the other department managers and training will be given to our employees as required.

Lovely room, good food and friendly staff. However, what would have been a fantastic break was marred by the disappearance of a bag of clothing from our room during our stay. The clothes had been worn and were placed in a carrier bag so I could take them home to wash. They were there when we went out in the morning and gone when we returned. I searched everywhere and they were not there. The room had been made up so I asked at reception if the housekeeping staff had accidentally thrown them away. The receptionist spoke to the cleaning staff and told me they had not seen or moved a bag of clothes. So £40 worth of clothes disappeared while we were out and we did not get an apology or offer of compensation. Next time we visit Aberdeen we will stay elsewhere.

We had a confirmed and paid booking through Groupon, however when we tried to check in we were told no booking existed.
I handed over paperwork ,three pages of confirmed booking details and was asked to wait till a manager appeared to deal with this.

A manageress duly arrived and promptly told us we had no booking and that it was our fault for not confirming by phone , and the Hotel was full.
She went on quite abruptly I had not read the small print and that if I had I would have seen this reconfirmation was required .

I then went online and found the fine print on the Groupon site where no such reconfirmation rules exist . This I showed to the manageress.
She then left us being helped by other staff to find alternative accommodation.

The alternative accommodation was of a total inferior quality . There was no car park or restaurant at this substitute hostel/hotel , and we were booked in for dinner and breakfast. We were advised that we could do the 12 miles return trip to the Holiday Inn for meals. Strange when we supposedly don't have a booking?
This substitute Hotel was in a poor area and the room is half the price on the Trip Advisor site , yet no offer of any refund.

In summary we were poorly treated by this The Holiday Inn Westhill and some of the staff because of some booking error , not of our making. We have stayed at the hotel before and the rooms and food have been fine , hence the 3 stars however this experience has left us unimpressed at the level of service.

We had arranged a funeral tea here after the funeral of our much loved grandmother.

After our funeral service we arrived at the holiday inn where we had to wait in a cramped hallway inside for at least 10 minuets. There was no hand gel available. As there was 37 people this does not comply with covid regulations and put the elderly friends of our grandmother at considerable risk of infection, not to mention to inappropriateness of this right after an emotional funeral.

Only after our family highlighted this on several occasions to the staff they allowed us into our reception room. As a family we had communicated and informed the hotel staff of our arrival time but staff reported a '' miss communication'' and were not ready for us. As a result we were not welcomed or hosted in an appropriate manner.

Once seated there wasn't enough vegetarian sandwiches and there were no gluten free biscuits despite this information being expressed well before arrival. Sandwiches were also of poor quality.

The night before this function we had arranged for photos of our grandmother to be out for people to see as they walked in/left. These frames were delivered the night before and staff were informed of our wishes. However, on the day staff did not have this out and only once asked they went and retrieved these with no apology despite relying the importance of this the night before. Staff left these frames far away from the tables where none could see, so I cleansed my hands/wore my mask and took the frames around to show all the guests ( not passing them around ) only then to be abruptly and insensitively told i could not do this despite none else touching the frame and me keeping me distance.

Staff were unprepared and visibly stressed which contributed to the atmosphere over all.

Overall this had a significant emotional impact on the family on an already difficult and emotional day. We are disappointed in the organisation of this function and lack of understanding, warmth and empathy from staff.

I would not recommend a function here.

I wish to assure you there have been a thorough investigation into your review. I understand that this was a very difficult day for you all and wish to apologise for the problems you feel you encountered upon entering the hotel. There was unforeseen circumstance resulting in a medical emergency in the hotel and due to the severity, the host was delayed. This was not relayed to you on the day as it was an internal matter and should have not impacted on your party, but unfortunately it appears to have. I would like to point out that there are several sanitiser units in the reception area which have been passed compliant by the local authority. We did have a seating plan and the special dietary requirements had been placed at the appropriate tables but due to the delay of the guests came into the restaurant they sat and different tables to the plan. We moved the plates to the right tables and also got an extra plate of vegetarian sandwiches made up. We have passed your comments about the sandwiches on to the chef, who will investigate this further. Due to the emergency before arrival the photos were an oversight, and I can only apologise for this. I put them on a couple of tables away from the guests so that they could all see them from their seated position due to the covid restrictions imposed. I noticed that a frame had been given to a gentleman on the first table and that you were carrying the other frame. I came over to you and advised that I was very sorry that I didn’t think you could pass them around due to covid restrictions for you and your guests safety. Thank you for bringing these points to my attention, as it is only through feedback from our guests, that we can evaluate and improve the service during these testing times. An amazing welcome on a snowy day in December. Really couldn’t ask for anymore in terms of friendliness and quality customer service.
Everything about the hotel was explained with no stone unturned and assurance that assistance would always be on hand.
The room was warm & cosy with a massive flat screen TV and good wifi. There was a hamper basket waiting for me stacked with goodies.
The bathroom was modern and clean.
The bed was large & comfy with great pillows.
I pulled out the bedside tables to access sockets and there’s probably some value in some attention for cleaning in these areas. Easily missed I guess.
I took a pint at the bar in an atmospheric bar with pool table, darts etc. Good pint too!
I’d stay again without doubt.

Family weekend away in a modern updated facilities used as a base to exploreAberdeenshire. But there were other significant issues...:-

1. Regrettably the sauna which was one of the reasons for booking this hotel wasn't operational and there is no message or warning of this on the website or anywhere
2. There was an overcharge of £100 on our booking as seemingly there was a discrepancy between our online booking made directly with Holiday Inn and the Hotel own reservation system
3. Sofa beds for the kids and other adults occupants in the room not ready on our arrival at 8pm. We had to request linen and made our own beds. We were told that housekeeping staff could make the rooms up only at the start of their night shift at 10pm. Not ideal for kids and elderly people in our group
4. No duty manager avalable onsite to escalate issues
5. Still awaiting on an explanation regarding the extra charge of £100.
6. This is Franchise Hotel and not a hotel fully owned and run by the IHG so that may explain different standards and issue with the booking price

Good facility but our stay was ruined by lack of staff and / or actually inexperienced staff. Only positive was that breakfast and restaurant staff were really nice, helpful and very professional

What is the size of your sofa bed and do you have any self service laundry room?

Hi ucartech, Our sofa beds are double's so approx. 6ft x 4ft. We do not have guest self service laundry however we do have an external laundry service with a very quick turnaround time.
