I stayed here for 1 night with my Mum and sister at a cost of £39. This paid for one room with a triple bunkbed. The hostel is in a fab location, overlooking the sea. They have lots of parking and as well as rooms in the main building, they offer caravan and tepee tents as accommodation. The room is very basic but clean (although the main floor felt a little gritty, but we put that down to sand). They provide bedding but not towels, so make sure you take your own. We were in a room on the ground floor with our own bathroom, which is all disabled friendly. They have USB ports for charging and fixed bedside lamps. They have a rail for clothes and small lockers. You would need to take your own padlock to actually secure these. The shower had good water pressure and got nice and hot.

The building itself is very secure, as you require a key fob to get into the room hallways. They have their own kitchen with a good variety of food (including vegan options), as well as having a couple of rooms you can sit in to eat. We ordered the mock duck pancakes (which was amazing, as I never see these anywhere!), a veg pizza, chips, salad and nachos. The prices are really reasonable and we washed it down with a £9 bottle of house rose.

There are just a couple of reasons I'm not giving it a 5. Generally, the building was noisy. There were people in the room above us and we could hear every single movement they made. If you're looking for a quieter night, maybe don't book on the ground floor.
The light in the bathroom is motion sensor, which also sets the fan going. Both kept sporadically coming on throughout the night, even whilst were in bed. I'm not sure if it means the place is haunted, or it was just picking up motion from those in other rooms, but either way, it was very annoying! We did work out how to turn the fan off at about 4am and kept the bathroom door shut to hide the light.
The restaurant area is also open to the public and they provide a water station for refilling bottles. Unfortunately, I went out to refill my bottle at about 9.30pm and it was all locked up.

However, the staff were really friendly, the set up was great and it was an absolute bargain at £39. I'd definitely stay here again and we're even talking about youth hostelling our way around the SW coastal path :)

Their covid measures can't be faulted and we all felt very safe. Thanks for a great stay.

This was our 5th year visiting the Treyarnon and staying in the bell tents, and we were worried how the Coronavirus was going to impact on our visit , but the youth hostel felt very safe and the shower cubicles spotless, with regular cleaning. The bar and cafe were closed but you can order takeaway food and eat it in your tents or outside the YH and the kitchens were closed but outdoor washing up sinks have been put in.
Had an excellent stay with great weather, the manager and staff were very friendly and helpful and charged my phone for me, and gave us extra bedding for my daughter who was cold.
Looking forward to another visit next year!

The location of this hostel is divine and the warmth and friendliness of the staff amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The lounge/dining room was cosy with the log fire, the wine beautifully chilled, the food nicely cooked and presented and the rooms bright and a spotless with a modern shower. If you have not yet been to Treyarnon, you should book your stay at the earliest opportunity. But don't tell your friends - we don't want everyone knowing about this gem, do we?!!

This is a lovely, busy hostel, next to the beautiful beach. It has been impacted by the pandemic...shower times are strictly allocated and no use of the communal kitchen. However staff are super helpful and there is a full restaurant survive with great food. We stayed in a family room. The view is just amazing if you are lucky enough to face the beach. Facilities are super clean. No complaints. Just be flexible with how often you can shower as you get 1 set time in the morning and 1 in the evening. It has barely any internet reception, however the location is stunning and right on the beach. Bring a bbq for the beach and a wet suit/bodyboard and you will have the best time.

I have stayed several times before at Treyarnon Bay YHA and I have always had a fantastic stay.
A slightly different experience this time due to most of the staff isolating so the cafe was closed which was a real shame, the Hostel remained open to residents only.
Everywhere was spotless, the guy who was mopping and cleaning the showers and toilets never stopped and was very chatty and polite.
The manager was also having to do several jobs and his small team worked constantly.
Thank You all for your hard work and keeping the Hostel open so I could enjoy my stay.
The weather was amazing too.

Thank you so much for your kind words Siobhan and also for your understanding during what is a unique period for us. The last 12 months have delivered us a number of challenges, however, at no point have the team given up and it is lovely to read the confirmation of this in your comments. The YHA Treyarnon team are a special breed i'm sure you will agree. Thanks for visiting us again this year and hopefully we can get to welcome you again next year when things are more normal ..... fingers crossed

Lovely spot, good clean rooms, cafe, bar and social space, Just wish managers wouldn’t blast dance music on the beach outside terrace areas all day/night. I came to listen to the sea which is meters away.

Easy enough to travel by public transport, Bus stop from Padstow is only 20 mins walk away.

Decided to get some take-out drinks and food but unable to sit at any of the picnic benches outside. No signs saying not in use. I understand the tables were all getting thoroughly cleaned due to COVID but the response of this staff member in explaining the use of the tables was very rude. It was as if he had enough and couldn’t be bothered to work. What would have been the right thing to say was “they will be ready shortly if you’re happy to wait”. Or, cordon off the area if you’re fed up with explaining the same thing! We watched him be rude and abrupt to several people who were equally confused. Dampened our day slightly.

HI Mjdmitchell, Thanks you for the review. I apologise your experience was not to the usual welcoming standard. The staff were implementing the new government guidelines of table service and this should have been explained to why you could not sit at the tables. Hope to welcome you back soon for a more welcoming visit. Kind regards Paul

Excellent location within a few minutes' walk from the beach and with superb views. Breakfast menus and evening meal menus are tasty and affordable, but we chose to mix and match with BBQ's on the beach. The room was very clean with fresh white duvet covers and modern decor. The showers and toilets were cleaned very regularly. Padstow is a 20 minute drive and Harlyn Bay is 10 minutes away for surf lessons. The kids (15, 11 and 9) had an action packed 3 days and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay....so much so we've already booked to come again!

We have visited the YHA at Treyarnon many times and although it’s always chaotic during the summer school holidays, with mixed up orders and slow service, it was part of its charm. However the charm has got and the chaos is worse. Signs saying ‘wait here to be seated’ whilst being totally ignored by staff. We are all adults and decided we can manage the queue ourselves, so several couples and families waited in line and peeled off when a table become available to the displeasure of the yha staff. If you insist on seating people have staff at the ready. Next is the time it takes to get a drink ordered and arrived. Answer - too long. Whilst the young lad was very pleasant who took our food order, again it took an age to get the food. Lastly the food. The menu is designed for lunch really with no main meals to chose from as there used to be. In its defence the pizza was really good however my husband’s burger was dry and over cooked with no salad to speak of. Definitely not value for money. This all served in a take away carton with no cutlery. We won’t visit again until the menu has improved, more staff have been employed and meals are back to proper plates with knives and forks.

Hi there, we apologies if you were not satisfied with your visit. If you had let us know you were not happy with the food we would have been happy to change it for you. We are indeed running on very limited staff at the moment and they are all working extremely hard and doing their best. The wait to be seated signs are in place so we as a team know who has sat down and who has not to avoid any confusions. All meals still have to be served in takeaway boxes due to the pandemic and YHA guidelines. Hopefully you'll visit us again and have a much better experience.

Sorry I am not sure. I didn't see any bike locks. However there are about three small stores which may look after your bike and also there is a small place where the lifeguards were based. They might let you leave a bike there. Sorry can't help more xxx

Can I get there from Newquay without a car or bike?
Answer from Yha Treyarnon
Padstow, England, United Kingdom
Indeed you can - First have just taken over the bus routes and I attach a link to their website - they only go as far as Constantine Bay and we are about a mile walk down the road. Ah - I'm not allowed to give you a link says Tripadvisor - please look for first direct north cornwall bus service.
