Such a lovely hotel, stylish with beautiful views and very friendly, helpful staff. our room was truly beautiful, looking out to the lake. The pool on the roof is great with service from a friendly staff member as you sun yourself . Absolute luxury. The restaurant offers some amazing food and the staff made sure that they could fit us in on the night that we hadn't booked and they were really busy.
The renovation work didn't disrupt us at all but I do wonder if the pool and roof top won't be a bit too busy and less relaxed once all the new rooms open?
The michelin star restaurant serves some gorgeous food but I personally find so many courses just too much and prefer to pick from a menu. All in all a perfect 4 nights

We didn't know what to expect based on the mixture of Trip Advisor reviews but we left feeling very impressed. We had booked a 'Deluxe' room as the suites were out of our price bracket. On arrival we were escorted to our room which I would have classed as a junior suite with a large balcony and stunning views across the lake. Not sure if this was a standard 'deluxe' or whether we just got lucky?
Walk-in shower suited us fine as we now have a dislike for having to step into a bath.
We ate in the restaurant twice - the first night a couple of the starters were off the menu but the second visit, the full menu was available. The menu is moderately prices for a 5* hotel as were the wines. For the wine buffs out there, the Battenfeld Spanier was one of the best Weissburgunder wines I've tried in a long time.
The hotel has hire bikes available, both standard and electric. The roof top pool was an added bonus - decent size and great views.
Finally, the staff, the ones were met were a true asset to the hotel. They got the job done efficiently and calmly and were extremely friendly.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

What a great hotel, the food, the service the rooms, the facilities, the location all just was working smoothly. The location is convenient only a short walk to the center, and with views to the lake. Especially the rooftop pool and terrace is stunning and the pool is not small. We had our teenagers with us and the loved it. The food is excellent with a good variety of different kitchens and wine is super.
For me is just to say Viva Riva , thank you for a great stay

We had lunch here today. Not for the first time. The food was good as usual but sadly the service was rather poor and disorganised. We waited 35 min for our drinks. When the food arrived (finally after a long wait) only 3 of the 4 of us got their plates.
A really poor experience. We will not come back

Probably this is one of the best hotels in Konstanz, but I am reviewing this as a hotel in Germany. Then, this hotel is unfortunately not worth the money. There are too many disturbing items for a 5 star hotel, such as no tea and/or coffee facilities in the room, airco is making to much noice (fortunately, it was not necessary to use it in the evening), no bath and the view on the lake was very limited, in fact useless. For that matter, if you want to see the lake, choose a room with full view., but you have to pay extra. On the last day, our "coffee" table was removed without informing us (completely unclear why it was removed). Finally, there was no buffet breakfast, which was the case at other hotels in Germany at that time. Therefore, nice hotel, but....

We stayed for a long weekend and everything about it was superb. Staff are helpful, welcoming and efficient. A most comfortable and well appointed room. Although building work was going on to one side of the building that did not intrude. An easy and pleasant walk into town and to the ferry terminal. So many great places to eat in town that we only ate at the hotel one evening but the food was good and the service excellent. Should our travels bring us this way again we would certainly make this our choice.

Hotel riva is a great hotel at the bodensee. Fantastic service, including breakfast and dinner. The rooms are very nice. Location directly at the bodensee is great. They are making an extension to the hotel, but -surprisingly- this is done extremely quiet.

One of the best hotels. We came again, as we like to do every year. Best service from reception to departure. Great comfortable clean ( spotless) rooms. Overlooking the promenade of the lake . Parking available, and hopefully the spa will be ready soon. ( nice swimming pool on top of hotel is great in the summer). Breakfast is great. Recommend it warmly, will come again.

Just think about it : On your 50th Wedding Anniversary, you decide to stay five days in one of the best hotels in the Bodensee area in one of the most lovely junior suites overlooking the lake. One of the reasons for choosing this hotel was because of its excellent reputation for its food and for its location.....yet, because of the head waiter, it was impossible to know if even for one evening you would be offered a table on the main terrace...and seemingly impossible to be given one of the the "best" tables directly near to the lake.

I chose this hotel because of the exceptional high ratings on Trip Advisor. When we arrived at the hotel we were delighted with the warm welcome we received, the beautiful room overlooking the lake (see photo) and the fresh flowers and the fresh fruit on the table. It was simply perfect!....The start to our holiday could not have been better!
At about 7.15pm, my wife and I went down for dinner and saw that there was an upper terrace restaurant with beautiful views overlooking the lake and a smaller terrace at the rear of the upper terrace. I told the head waiter that we had just arrived and that we were hotel guests and would it be possible have a table on the upper terrace. The head waiter told me that the upper terrace was fully booked. I then said that as this was a special occasion for my wife, could we come back later. He said this was not possible. It was the way he told us that I then said that we may then have to look for another restaurant. The head waiter then said OK I will do you favour and give you a table on the upper terrace. But wasn't the restaurant already fully booked !

On leaving the restaurant I thanked the head waiter for the table and asked if I could book a table on the upper terrace for the remaining four nights. For some strange reason he did not give me a clear answer and wrote nothing in the reservation book and we left not really knowing if this had been noted..

To cut a long story short on the second evening we did manage to have a table on the upper terrace. Although many tables were still free, the head waiter gave us a table immediately to the right on top of the stairs. It was not an ideal table as most guests and the waiters have to pass directly by our table but at least it was on the upper terrace.

The next evening the head water was busy and one of the waitresses gave us a nice table in the second row of the upper terrace more in the centre of the terrace restaurant.

On the forth evening just before we went for dinner I told my wife that I had feeling we would not get a table on the upper terrace. When we arrived at the restaurant a different new head waiter did not want to give my wife and I a table on the upper terrace. I complained and then gave us a table to the left just above the stairs. When I asked the new head waiter why it was not possible to give us a table on the upper terrace straight away he became "nasty" and said upper or lower terrace are all the same for him and he had to keep all his staff busy.

On the fifth and final night we simply did not want the stress anymore of having to "fight" for a table on the upper terrace so we went in the town to another restaurant !

When dining on the upper terrace we observed the others who was given tables on the upper terrace and especially those who were given the "best" tables nearest to the lake and it seemed to my wife and I that most of the guests were known to the head waiter.

I have since read the Trip Advisor review from August 17th 2017 "EUD" of Hong Kong "Excellent but with a BIG BUT" who had EXACTLY the same "Ugly Experience" (Eud words) as my wife and I.

I complained to the management before i left the hotel and following my written complaint to them, they wrote "At present we are reviewing the process of allocating tables in order to avoid such experiences" However, one wonders why this "abuse" was ever allowed in the first place. I hope that by writing this review future hotel guests may avoid the same bad experience given to "Eud" and I and not have the holiday spoiled by this one person.

Do you have a gym or access to one? Parking?
Konstanz, Germany
Dear Gregory, thank you for your message. We do have a small gym in the hotel (no weight lifting equipment, only cardio) as well as an outdoor pool on our roof terrace, a sauna area with finnish sauna and steam bath as well as treatment rooms for massages or/and facials. Our hotel guests can chose to park in our underground garage for 15,00 EUR per day or to have a look for a public parking place. Kind regards, your RIVA team.
