We have been running late but the owner waited for us and gave us instructions where to park and we were quickly checked in.
Great hotel with all the necessities available.
Breakfast was more than enough and although we were there during the pandemic we felt very safe. The hotel followed the guidelines and we were happy to adhere.
Situated so close to all amenities, it was the perfect stay for us. We would definitely return to this hotel.
Thank you for your hospitality.

pros:
1) excellent staff attitude: Carmen speaks Portuguese and was very helpful to us.
2) very good breakfast
3) good location, close to the lake

cons:
1) small room (we got the cheapest one from booking.com, with two single beds rather than a double bed)
2) no lift (we were happy as we got a room in the first floor)

The hotel is managed by the new owners who are extremely helpful, friendly and professionals. They create a lovely family atmosphere. The Location is perfect. Very close to the rail station, the ships and it can be easily reached by car. There is a lot of space in front of the hotel in order to stop and check-in. There is a public underground Parking ~150mt away.
Being within the boundaries of the pedestrian area of the old center, all the shopping streets, mauls, restaurants and the points of interest -for a visitor- are around you.
The room was comfortable, quiet and very clean as well as the bathroom. The Breakfast was very good. No elevator. EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY.
We hope to go again, soon.

My wife and I stayed in the City Hotel in Konstanz for 6 nights in May 2012 and will certainly stay there again on our next trip to this lovely town.

The owners were extremely helpful and friendly, room was clean, and bathroom was nice and modern.

For those travelling by train, the location is absolutely perfect -- less than 100 Metres from the train station and the bike rental shop, and only 5 minutes walk from the harbour if you intend to travel by ship around the lake.
(The car ferry to Meersburg is just over 10 minutes drive, if you intend to travel by car.)

Breakfast was excellent, and we were pleasantly surprised to have the choice of smoked salmon as well as the usual high-quality breakfast food that we normally encounter in Germany.

There is an Irish pub a few doors down if you like a bit of nightlife, there is an excellent restaurant only 2 doors away in the other direction, and the hotel location is very close to the old town.
If you want a very quiet room, you could choose one at the back, but we chose a room at the front for a better street view and a bit of a lively atmosphere.

All in all, it was excellent value and we certainly will stay there again.

Stayed here as part of a rail tour of Switzerland and southern Germany and selected the hotel for its proximity to Konstanz railway station (trains to various destinations in Germany and Switzerland) and harbour (ferries to various destinations on the Bodensee). This turned out to be an excellent choice. The family run hotel is 110 m from the station in a quiet pedestrianised street. No lift ,but clean room and very comfortable bed. Excellent range of choice for buffet breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff.

There are so many positives about this hotel that it’s difficult to know where to start.
Firstly, Johann and Carmen, who own and manage the hotel, are friendly, helpful and care for the hotel as if it were their family home. (I suppose it is; they spend most of their waking hours here!)
Secondly, the rooms are spotless.
Thirdly, the included buffet breakfast has both European (cheese, cold meat and salad vegetables) and other offerings (cereal, make-your-own toast) along with yoghurt and fresh fruit and pastries. Eggs are cooked to order and a pot of tea and varieties of coffee are offered. You won’t go hungry here!
I’m mentioning this fourthly, although, when booking, it was the main factor for us (we didn’t know about the first three!): the excellent location. It’s about 150 metres down the street directly in front of the exit doors of the train station. One block away is the shopping mall with brand name shops and cafes and it’s just a short walk to the lake.
Some other points that might be useful to know…
Wifi was good and free.
There are plenty of TV channels, but only a couple in English.
If you’re desperate for a hot drink for supper, McDonald’s is just around the corner.
Body soap/shampoo is provided, but if you need hair conditioner, tissues and bottled water, you’ll have to provide your own.
Although the room lacked the extras that some other hotels provide, the comfortable bed and good quality fresh linen and towels made up for that.
If the lack of a lift is a problem, ask for a room on the first floor.
As expected, there is no air conditioner, but a huge fan was provided and proved effective.
We have no hesitation in recommending the City-Hotel.

NB: The Swiss Pass transport ticket is valid for the two-minute train journey across the border, between Kreuzlingen (in Switzerland) and Konstanz (in Germany).

We booked a room through Booking.com and the only room left was a triplebed room for 171 Euro, when arrived we was asked why we dont book directly to hotel as they have to pay Commission to booking.com. I told them no way to book without email hotel and that was a bit to complicated so we booked the way we did. We were than told that our room was on 3rd floor without an elevator/lift but that they had a smaller room on first floor which we did accept. Room was very small and no A/C but lucky it was not a hot night so it was ok but the bed was very small and also worn down.
Breakfast was included but very limited selection, no hot food except a boiled egg on request. Hotel was well situated Close to the railwaystation and the Town. Parking not availble at the hotel but there is several different locations Close to hotel, we did park at Karstad departmentstore for 18 Euro overnight. When check out our bill was still the 171 Euro as we booked but our room should have been about 100 Euro as it was much smaller than booked. The owner even complained that he have to pay 15% to booking.com and 4% for my Visa card and was again asked why I dont book directly with the hotel. However the wife (I guess) was very friendly and helpful about directions around the city! But again a bit Cheap Charlie to ask why dont book directly and complain about C/C charges. I do suggest that they make a better WEB Site that allow guest to book directly with the hotel as I normally prefer to do as I know that hotels do prefer that and that they many times treat you better if you do so.

Just as many previous reviewers have commented, this hotel is right opposite the train station and totally central so is great for sightseeing around Konstanz and the Bodensee area. We were welcomed warmly, had the main sights and attractions explained to us and greeted brightly in the morning by our hosts at a hearty breakfast. The room was spacious and clean. The only negatives were that it was quite noisy on the street-side and with the window closed it was a very hot room, and either a guest or staff-member kept opening a door just off the first floor stairs to smoke so the smoke drifted back into the corridor and into our room. Other than that, a decent 3 star hotel with lovely hosts.

This hotel in the Old City is just a few minutes from the railway station and the Lake Zurich. There is excellent shopping and sight-seeing to be had nearby. The hotel is family-run and the attention given to the comfort of guests is excellent. A great breakfast is served by the owners. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. There are rooms back and front but the street is quiet at night

I am parked there now. Very safe. 20euro per day but you can get a 2 day pass for 30 euro and come and go as many times as you like thru the day. Lots of car parks so won’t be full. Well signposted too so easy to find.
