Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

People are too quick to judge this amazing place....
True, it's 'RUSTIC'... but I felt privelidged to have spent time here, the lady owner is fascinating, the building is steeped in history, the setting is perfect, the food although slow to arrive, was delicious! Why is everybody obsessed with speed and facilities (en-suites etc) If we just slow down a bit we might enjoy this place for what it is.....

A short walk up from Wallhausen, or a pleasant walk through the woods from Dettingen, the Burghof Wallhausen is a popular stopping and meeting point for locals. The rustic setup is sufficient for coffee and cake, a beer, or a simple lunch, but with the limited staff don't expect quick service. The queue to order and pay is often long - best to pay when ordering and avoid queuing a second time. The savory menu is limited, but the cakes are good. Accommodation is simple - our friends children loved the "castle", the adults hated it - take your choice - but read the other reviews too. In short, OK if you are in the area, want a stroll, and somewhere to sit and have a drink. There are alternative cafes and restaurants are along the harbour in Walhausen, or take the bus into Konstanz - about half an hour ride.

This hotel is a small, medieval-style "castle" only 5 mins walk from Lake Constance. There appear to be only half a dozen rooms on the second and third floors, with one communal toilet and bathroom on the second. The double room I had on the third floor was large, but with a tiny window and no view. There was a washbasin but no towel, and thankfully a pisspot so I didn't have to go up and down the creaky stairs in the night!
For this "luxury", I think it was too expensive at €40 - plus €9.50 for breakfast. The breakfast buffet, in an olde worlde dining room, was quite good, with a view over the lake.

A little run down outfits but most probably wanted this way. Lovely alternative to touristic sides in Konstanz. People with alternative lifestyle and above 40 hang out here. Nice for families. Definitely not for yuppie
