Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent Hotel and Restaurant in every way. The location is perfect for a stay in Konstanz. Our room was large, clean and with all facilities including chairs and a table. The breakfast and meals in the restaurant were very good and served by attentive, well trained staff. Our stay couldn’t be faulted.

This place is a gem. It is located in a historic building in the heart of a fabulous town. We thoroughly enjoyed the architectural details and art work in the lobby, hallways, shared sitting room, and in our private room.
Our room exceeded exceptions - with a couch and chairs along with a large, comfortable bed. The staff was helpful from check-in to check-out. We highly recommend.

Stayed at the Hotel Barbarossa for two nights and loved the hotel. They strike a fantastic balance of an old rustic building with up-to-date amenities. They nicely renovated the rooms and offer comfy beds. Breakfast was absolutely stunning with a lot of options and great service. Speaking of service: Staff members are fantastic, very friendly and paying attention to detail. I particularly liked that the owners proudly display the accomplishments of their staff on the wall in the restaurant. If I return to Konstanz, I will stay in this hotel.

small room, looking to the wall of the other side of the hotel. clean sheets and towels.no cotton buds etc. have been staying in this hotel for several years with my husband. very disappoined with the room they gave us. arrived around 6:00 pm.
when we asked to leave 1 hour late in the morning, they asked for half of the daily rate. any customer will deserve some nice attitude at reception. (it was not like this before)nice breakfast with very helping crew. thanks to them.

Hotel right in the center of the old town. The building itself is also old and historic. Access by car can be a bit troublesome as many streets are only for pedestrians. The rooms are small but nice, the beds comfortable. The service is very friendly, the breakfasts are fine, but nothing extraordinary.

We spend a nice 4 days and 3 nights in Konstanz. Everything was find except the room 212. Dark and view on the kitchen exhaust hood which is noisy. As we were there to relax we did not want to waste good spirits and energy to argue with the front desk.

I choose this hotel for my honeymoon. The staff gave us a "romantisches Doppelzimmer" the decor of which had a simple red and white heart theme. The chambermaids artistically arranged our sleepwear on the bed everyday, which was a lovely touch. The breakfasts were fantastic, loads of choice and slightly different every day. The restaurant meals were equally tasty with great service. The hotel is well placed in a square in the Aldstadt, near all the shops, restuarants and bars and a short stroll from the lake and the train station. The only downside to the room was that it was in the attic space and had a very limited view onto the backs of other buildings. The decor, food and service more than made up for this though and the price was cheap by British standards!

First, the good...the staff was GREAT!!! Very nice, polite, and accommodating without making you feel like a bother. The young man and lady that served the hotel during the day were very helpful and knew the area well! The restaurant food was impeccable for dinner and the morning breakfast buffet was on the upper end of the traditional European b'fast. The hotel and room was clean but both showed their age with the squeaks and creaks with every step. The wi-fi was practically non-existent though this could've been a city-wide issue because even the stores in town had trouble when making transactions. Though our view of the courtyard was nice, you could hear EVERY conversation of each passerby within 3 blocks, no kidding. This is quintessential European small town accommodation issues, though, only 4 - 5 hours (MAX) of really good sleep. Nevertheless, a very good experience. FYI, in case you haven't...the car ferry ride from Meersburg was one of the best Konstanz experiences!

MrReaves and I found this place by walking around the city after we parked in one of the parking garages. We needed a place to stay for one night on a long road trip, and this fit the bill.

Parking was very close, and relatively cheap for being in a central location along the water. Our room was on the 3rd floor. Not much of a view, but we were able to leave our windows open all night without much noise from the surrounding areas. The bed was nice and firm, and our bathroom was very clean and well stocked. The hotel also had a writing desk in the corner with loads of touristy type information about the lake and things to do there.

We walked around by the lake, which was buzzing with people. It was a lovely night, and it was also July 4th, so lots of Americans out enjoying the city. We stopped and had a beer at a couple of waterfront cafes---it was like playing musical chairs, it was so busy at all of them.

We ended our evening at an Italian place on the corner across the street from the train station. Our pizza and calzone were divine!

The receptionist was extremely helpful, inquiring about our parking situation to make sure that we were getting the best deal. She said that they do validate parking if you stay for 2 or more nights, but we didn't pay that much to begin with, so no big loss for us.

We only ate breakfast at the restaurant, but it was really good. Lots of variety--both hot and cold--and the staff refilled and refreshed constantly. As for other meals, I can only say that the restaurant stayed packed for the entirety of our stay at the hotel, so it must have something going for it.
