This is a difficult property to review, mainly because some aspects were very good, let down my many missed opportunities to be better.

On the positives - the building is grand from the outside and the shared amenities (dining room, sitting room and lobby with refreshments) are reminiscent of good B&Bs - which this property appears to be pitching itself, understandable given the size and historic nature of Bamberg.

Our room was large and split on two levels with an appealing sitting area and the amenities (toiletries etc) were of a high (business hotel) standard. Breakfast (included) was decent with friendly service although the range/choice was limited. The hotel is convenient by walking to most city attractions (the city itself is reasonably walkable).

Unfortunately we found our room very noisy with late night loud talking and vacuuming (!), the beds old and uncomfortable and the service from the front desk disinterested at best - amounting to a desk clerk service rather than hotel service. Parking was definitely problematic with little (actually...no) help from the hotel.

Overall, with a remodel (the rooms were strangely modern with a quirky mix of styles and furnishings), improved service (or better training), this hotel would certainly appeal to a more luxe market. Sadly those aspects which were exceptional were more than let down by the other aspects, making this an unappealing property at the moment.

Stylish 4* standard hotel close to all amenities and town centre. Petit rooms are just that, so if you are staying for more than one night, pay a bit extra for a deluxe double. 4th floor rooms are individual and have air conditioning. Efficient reception and housekeeping.

The hotel is close to the old town, definitely walking distance. It’s an older hotel but kept up nicely. Our room was large and clean. The air conditioning was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only negative is that you had to step into the large bathtub to use the hand shower. That might be an issue for less agile folks. It is a short cab ride to the main train station. It was nothing exciting but there was also nothing wrong with the hotel. I would stay there again.

Lovely room in a 4 Star hotel. Clean room and spacious. Excellent bathroom. Beautiful lobby with a very friendly and helpful staff. This is in one of the older, historic buildings that has been extensively remodeled to modern hotel standards. I was on an upper floor but a lift is available. Excellent air conditioning made my stay very enjoyable. Reasonably priced for a luxurious room. My only "negative: is for the relatively expensive Breakfast Buffet. Otherwise, I recommend this hotel for family and friends wholeheartedly.

Most expensive drink water I ever saw. I asked to fill up my bottle(0,8ml) with the wate. They wanted me to pay €7,4 !!!! Of corse I returned water and got if go it for free in nearest restaurant. I was surprised with this price. May be water is the main profitable product in this restaurant. Who knows…

Last week my husband and I spent one night in the Bamberger Hof. We had booked a standard double. It was a large room, very clean, with a large bed, very firm mattresses. The room was shaped like the letter S. In one curve there was the bathroom, in the other the bedroom part.
And that's the strange thing about this hotel: the door from the hallway opens into the bathroom, so the first thing you see is the large bathtub. There is NO door between bathroom and bedroom part, NO door between the toilet and the rest of the room.Due to the S shape you cannot see what's going on in the bathroom part, but you can hear it.
So no shower early in the morning if your partner still wants to sleep!
No using the toilet in the middle of the night if you don't want to wake up your partner!
That really takes some getting used to and I'm not sure if I would stay there for more than one or two nights.
The staff was very friendly, especially in the breakfast room. Breakfast is included in the price of 145 Euro, buffet style breakfast, very good.
A definite plus is the garage: for 8 Euro a day you can park your car there. We walked in Bamberg and didn't have to bother about parking. The staff even let us stay in the garage for several hours after we had checked out.

From the minute we walked through the front door we felt like we had stepped back in time. This is an elegant hotel in a very convenient location. The lobby has treats out all day and the front desk staff was very accommodating.
While the rooms are not air conditioned they are comfortable and welcoming. The bathroom in our room was a modern addition with a glass wall which might seem odd for some but it did have a big blind to lower for privacy. Our room faced the nice view of the park.
For us it had the nicest breakfast of our 2 week trip. It was very varied and served in a beautiful light and airy room. Parking is in the garage on site
You will enjoy your time in Bamberg and your stay here. If possible eat at the restaurant POSEIDON which is within easy walking distance.

To begin, I never actually stayed in the hotel. However, I spent a lot of time in the restaurant and the bar. I lived in Bamberg for three years. I prefer going to upper class places, and the Bamberger Hof is just that. It's location is perfect, and a great place to have coffee or a beer while whatching people walk by. The food is great and the servise is excellent.

This hotel claims to be a 4 star (European rating system) but in reality it is a 3 star at best. It relies on its glory days when the Dalai Lama stayed there on his visit to Bamberg. Here are the details: the location is excellent; right off the main drag. The rooms are really large but furnished with a mix of traditional and then funky modern lucite pieces that just look like a mish-mash; in general the hotel decor felt dated. The bathrooms are pokey--the shower stall sprays water all over the floor--and this is not a wet room. The beds however were comfortable, and sleeping was not an issue. The wall mounted flat screen tv was small--hard to actually watch from bed unless you have great eyesight with a few English channels. Some reviewers have already mentioned that several rooms have clear glass doors to their bathrooms which means that if you are on the toilet, you will be looking out into the room--and if someone is in the room, they will be looking right back at you; our room did not have this type of a bathroom, but beware some members of our party did. Our a/c leaked for two of the days we were there--the front desk helped by putting a bucket under the leak. Breakfast was decent--they brought you fresh coffee or tea in silver pots which was a nice touch; eggs were cooked to order which were also very good; but the selection of breads and meats were standard fare--the breakfast room itself feels dated. The hotel shares space with the Leopold restaurant directly next door which is decent for quick meals. In sum, the location cannot be beat--but you will sacrifice in terms of the quality of the rooms themselves. If you keep your expectations in check and have a flexible attitude, you'll be okay.

This is not a 4 star quality, although you pay for it. Upon arrival, there was no one to help with the baggage. The parking for guests was very old and short. Forget about driving inside with bigger car if you have boot on the roof. The bathrooms are old, not nice at all, and we had the shower being in an open bathtub that if one stood straight, you would hit your head on the ceiling. And...additional attraction - ANTS IN THE BATHROOM! Plenty of them come out late evening and started to walk first around the bathroom and then to the room. We had them on ceiling, walls. As we called help desk, we were moved to another room, but this time with old, rotten tap, so our water was just red and we had to wait 15 minutes to get it wormed. After this horrible night we didn't get any discount (they didn't just charged us for the parking - 15 EUR). This lacks so much that one expects in a 4 Star Hotel. We don't recommend this hotel and we will never come back there!
