We chose to stay at Turtle Lodge with Maia Expeditions after reading the reviews on line both about the lodge and the fact that this was a locally grown business, providing employment within the local community. We weren't disappointed. The transportation into the lodge was seamless and included plenty of time cruising through the Amazon on boats (including the meeting...

As part of our honeymoon to Brazil we had 3 nights at the amazon turtle lodge. The experience was amazing. We saw lots of animals including parrots, lizards, sleuth and pink dolphins, along with many different types of birds and a couple different spiders. I held a small alligator (whilst my wife wasnt feeling as brave as me) and our...

On the long journey from Manaus we paused to look at the famous meeti g of the rivers, and later the giant water lilies. Once at the lodge our English speaking local guide helped with any questions and planned our itinerary.Visitors were grouped according to which language they required. The majority of staff spoke Portuguese or German. We spent our...

Fantastic experience. I went with a large group from the US. Staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. They challenged us to a soccer match and we decided to show them how it's done and then lost 14-1. Max, the owner, is an incredible person and shared with us the story of how he created the Turtle Lodge and the work...

Out of a week long adventure in Brazil my stay at the Turtle Lodge was the highlight of the trip. The staff was accommodating to my dietary restrictions (strict vegetarian-- no meat or fish) and served delicious food each day. The guides were knowledgable about the Amazon, spoke excellent English, and were quite funny and charming. The rooms are a...

Very lovely place, chilled and relaxed with great food. Sure, it's kind of rustic, but that's part of the charm. Prepare for nature to be part of your experience however, as it is all around and can pop in to say hello! Ask for a river room (with air con), and if you are veggie let the lodge know in...

Brazil is slightly larger than the United States if you don’t include Alaska. Much of the country has very few people – yet it has one of the largest cities in the world. If you wanted to disappear and live a life of solitude – cultivating your own vegetables and brewing your own moonshine, then there are still plenty of...

I had the most amazing time exploring the Amazon with Maia and staying at Turtle Lodge. I was travelling alone so it was quite the pushing of boundaries for me but had a really great experience. Max and his team are really super nice and welcoming. The rooms are very basic but the idea is to strip yourself of attachments...

I recommend you stay here. I visited for four nights with my ten year old son and we had a great time. Logistics were great, accommodation comfortable (given the context) and the staff very friendly, helpful and informative. The other thing to say is that Maia expeditions (who run this operation) are completely trustworthy. Security is an important consideration when...
