My apologies for the the lack luster writing here but this is how we felt.
- Hyper modernized
- Form over function
- Nothing really cozy or inviting
- There was a coldness to the overall ambiance
- The hotel was perfectly suitable for our needs: a clean, simple affordable place to stay the night)

***Staff were very friendly
***Price was VERY VERY good compared to other hotels in the area
***Location was fantastic (short walk to Bodensee and the boardwalk area
***Great night life scene in Uberlingen

Just came back from a night in this hotel - the rooms are large but very basic and rather stark. Not a cosy place for a holiday - I wouldn't book it myself. I did however sleep well, it has good pillows (not the ghastly German pillows) and breakfast was basic but ok. The showers are not too comfortable and hair dryers are kept at reception. All in all, good for one night on one's own, not for a romantic trip.

Very uncomfortable stay here. The bedrooms are badly designed, especially for anyone tall. A shelf directly above pillow location on bed, I don’t know how more people don’t have concussions, we hit our heads sitting up . The mattresses are hard, the pillows are too soft, almost flat , and have an odd textured fabric on them which includes other guests hair. We used our folded clothes as pillows. Walls are very thin. Could hear conversation in the room beside, and a baby crying three rooms away.

Bathroom is tiny, no shampoo provided, I was told to use the hand soap on the sink. No holder for this in the shower.

Breakfast was unpleasant. Not efficiently laid out, difficult for guests to get access to the food . Not replenished well, when we were there no fruit, no pastries, no butter, no eggs. Only bread, some cheese, meat available. Packet juice and poor instant coffee from a tap. No cappuccinos etc.

The location is ten minutes from the Altstadt and promenade. There is nothing in the immediate location except residential homes and a school. No shop, cafe, restaurant, or even a bus stop. The place itself has zero atmosphere , it’s like a warehouse. No idea why it is called a bed and breakfast, could not be further from the concept of a warm welcoming place.

Staff were friendly on arrival, but I was surprised to be asked to prepay.

No luggage storage facility provided on checkout, and worse, directed to lockers at the Bahnhof that didn’t exist. When we returned we were told we went to the wrong place, but no map or address was given.

Highly recommend finding anywhere else in Überlingen to stay.

Though the hotel was functional and the rooms rather stark and bare, the staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast delicious. There was no hairdryer or computer lead in the room but these were available from reception and there was an ironing and drying room in the basement. We were staying over the local festival weekend and whilst more central hotels were plagued by noise and disruption, our hotel was close enough to the centre for access but far enough away to be quiet with a great view of the fireworks! We could have done with air conditioning during such a hot spell but there was none and no fan was offered.

We were biking through Überlingen without e-bikes; after a very long day of hills adding one more was rough but we were happy to find a secure bike garage and the room basic but comfortable. We would consider staying again but our cautionary note is to find breakfast elsewhere!! We were crowded into a small area in the basement with little air movement and while many people had masks those that didn’t weren’t asked to put one on or leave.

This was my second stay at the Rotes Haus in Ueberlingen and one I was not only looking forward to but one I immensely enjoyed again.
Check in was swift and friendly and I found my room clean and fully functional.
Tea and coffee making facilities were available as was a large bottle of sparkling mineral water. A drink dispenser is available on the ground floor for guests who need an extra ration of water.
Hot water came from the taps without much delay, the water pressure was strong and WiFi kicked in the moment the password was entered - at constant high speed for that matter.
I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast again, a wide variety of cold cuts and cheeses which should put some of the fancied hotels I stayed in more recently during my travels across Africa to shame!
Definitely returning next year when Ueberlingen is host city to the State Garden Fair and definitely once again booking early, because like last year, the hotel was absolutely full the nights we - my sister and I - stayed this time.
Again, the Rotes Haus comes highly recommended.
Special thanks to the breakfast team who were engaged, took time to chat with me and shared some Ueberlingen episodes of the recent past before the dining room got busy.

Check at Rotes Haus was swift and after clearing up that we had ordered two single rooms and not a twin - the booking was done online - was the bill raised and we paid. There is what appears to be a tourism tax of 2 Euros per person, not mentioned in advance but payable anyway. The money is not a big deal but an upfront information would provide clarity to guests before they arrive.
My room was located on the first floor - there is a ground floor and second floor too - and being a B&B one carries one's own bags. Traveling light helps though there is an elevator for guests staying for longer and bringing more luggage.
The room proved bright, again in the predominant colours of white and red. I found two single beds forming a 'single single twin', each wide enough to sleep comfortably.
The wardrobe was of sufficient size, including enough hangers, the large flat screen TV remained untouched but the tea making facilities and the sparkling water were most welcome.
The bathroom was on the small side but that poised no problem as all elements needed, shower, soap dispenser, towels, hair dryer and all were fitted into the space, as the pictures will demonstrate.
The room was absolutely clean and the bed and pillow quality better than hoped for.
WiFi kicked in the moment the sign up code was entered, which was offered together with the key on check in.
There are a number of good quality restaurants within 10 or 15 minutes walk down towards the lake - the hotel is located rather higher up - worth the walk both ways.
What was very impressive was the breakfast set up - the pictures will show just what large choices guests have and the service by the waitress on duty was absolutely charming, friendly and professional.
The morning receptionist, with whom we checked out, was more inclined to have a chat with us and share some information compared to her colleague who checked us in.
Overall a very pleasant experience and definitely a place to be recommended to other travelers visiting this part of Lake Konstanz. Would I return to the Red House aka Rotes Haus? Absolutely YES ...

Great choice when visiting Friedrichshafen. Only about 35 minutes by car and great views during the drive.
This hotel is very new and modern. The rooms are very large, clean and modern. The windows use exterior shutters that are electrically operated from inside the room. The switches are behind the TV, so save yourself the embarrasment of asking the front desk.
The front desk is staffed during the day but in the early evening the office closes and the front door is accessed by your room key. Very good neighborhood for walding to town and nearby stores.
Very inexpensive place to eat next door (feet from the hotel) serves K-bobs and pizza.
Continue up the street and find a "Beer Store" and continue some more and find a grocery. All within a few blocks.
Free parking and WiFi are available. We found that the lot does fill up during the late afternoon but still always found a space to park.
The breakfast is buffet style and always offered hot eggs and meat. Vegans should find no problem with everything else.
The attendant prepares the pots of coffee for the table. Just pick it up at the entrance of the breakfast area or ask.
There is a tax that is added to the bill. It is per person per night. They will tell you when you check in but it is not advertised or disclosed on reservations.
Still a very good value in my opinion.
We were running late due to many road detours and were afraid we would miss the check in time before the office closed but they stayed past 6 pm.
If check in time is a problem verify before you travel.

We stayed here for four days while vacationing on the Bodensee. We were attending a friend's wedding in Überlingen and the hotel provided convenient access to downtown.
The Rotes Haus is a traditional German hotel. The room was clean and compact. The shower was small as most are.
It was warm in July so the lack of air conditioning was missed but that is the case with most German hotels. Bring a portable fan.
The breakfast was fine and had a good assortment of eggs, cheese, meats, breads in traditional German fashion.
They do not serve lunch or dinner.
The room price was very reasonable.
The front desk staff was efficient but not friendly.
The waterfront is about a 10 minute walk down the hill. There is a less steep route back up the hill through the bus station area.

Überlingen is a wonderful German town. We were there during the summer festival and enjoyed that very much.

When we return, we will seek out a hotel that has more amenities and is on the water.
