We stayed 3 days at the MAP during a ski trip at les 4 vallées in Verbier. The location is ideal, right in front of the free shuttle to take you to the mountain, there is also easy/free parking available. The MAP is very cozy and Marc, the owner, is very welcoming and accommodating. The kitchen is perfect to cook and have a relaxing dinner in the house. We loved our first experience to Verbier at the MAP, thanks Marc! The only thing is that it would be nice to have soap/shampoo included in the bathrooms. :)

Very charming place which serves exactly what many needs: Reasonable prices, just a skibus stop, clean, great and very helpful staff, bigger rooms available for groups above 2 pax

Best recommendations!

I have been very much impressed with MAP Verbier. The price is reasonable, the hostel very clean and the keeper (Marc) is one of the friendliest and most helpful people I've met. He gave me a full tour of the hostel, recommended good walking routes and even offered me a lift into town when I needed shopping! I found facilities to be excellent, with the rooms and communal areas very well maintained and fully equipped (including cutlery, crockery etc.) The hostel is also well situated: a 10 - minute (uphill) walk into the town centre. Overall I found the standard to be well above what I'd expect of any hostel, let alone one in a place as expensive as Verbier!

We were a large group (c.20 people) and booked the entire place for three nights.

The hostel was way too small to accommodate all of us. Only 2 bathrooms and some people ended up sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Rooms looked oldish and in all honesty quite sad. Checkout time is arbitrarily set at 10:00 am. Location is c.15 minutes (steep) walk from the slopes. It was close to a bus stop but the bus only passes a few times per day.

The worst part of it all was the housekeeper. She wasn't there when we arrived and unreachable on the phone for three hours. She wanted half of the booking to be paid in advance as deposit via bank transfer, and the rest in cash only on the first day of the stay - when we pointed out that we needed to pass by an ATM, she threw a tantrum and kept chasing us until we paid. Her attitude in general was extremely standoffish, zero welcoming and it really felt stressful to constantly have to deal with her issues.

Verbier is big, just find another place really.

Response from MAP V, Gérant at MAP HOSTEL AND VERBIER-VILLAGE
Responded 7 Mar 2017
Dear Sir, Thank you for having choosen us during your stay in Verbier. Even though we accept some of your comments, we do not agree with the major part of them. Several are completely unfair, dishonest and unfounded. Therefore, it is indispensable to put the record straight. First of all, you rented the whole chalet (i.e. 25 beds) and, in the end, only 20 people showed up and this without keeping us informed. In addition to your four rooms, there was another triple room in the basement which was never used, although its key was given to the person in charge of the check-in. This person was also responsible for briefing your group about the configuration of the house as well as its few rules to respect, something that he clearly never did. All the more reason, since he "forgot" to show you the 3rd bathroom at disposal, just next to the kitchen, in front of the living-room entrance. Secondly, the rooms' general appearance is your personal subjective opinion and own view. Thirdly, 10 o'clock (or 10:30 AM) is a normal check-out time for this kind of accommodation, i.e. a Backpacker. Please attentively check some other equivalent establishments around the globe or in Verbier and its neighbourhood. Fourthly, the free shuttle-bus stopping nearby runs approximately every three quarters of an hour, continuously from 8:20 AM to 17:35 PM. Fifthly, we had written an email to the holder of your reservation giving him all the important details about your coming stay : the outstanding amount to be paid in cash directly upon arrival, our official check-in times which stretch from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM or later (upon prior agreement), etc. Apparently, this person did not deem appropriate to relay you these essential information and he is the only one to blame. Thus, obviously, if you arrive by us at 2 o'clock in the afternoon without keeping us informed, no wonder there won't be anybody to welcome you... Sixthly, your forgot to mention that a member of your group intentionally destroyed one of our THREE showers by smashing up the timer and that none of you had the honesty and/or presence of mind to report it. How obnoxious is that ! In conclusion, and just as a reminder, your behaviour was far to be irreproachable during these 3 nights ; so, please, "do not expect to receive what you do not give/show : RESPECT". Best regards,

Your experience here may probably vary greatly. I had the great misfortune to get a basement room, and be greeted not by the apparently friendly Marc mentioned in many reviews, but by an english lady whom I do not know the name of. For those of you who have seen the now ancient TV series Fawlty Towers, picture a female Basil Fawlty, but without the charm. In short, she was unfortunately the most ungracious and condescending host I have ever met.

I paid CHF 150/night to sleep alone in a triple, yet she was adamant about what bed I should sleep in, and very careful to note that I must not disturb the other beds since the linen are clean. The fact that I had just paid CHF 50/bed/night - including linen seemed to escape her completely. This kind of thing just went on, and I started to suspect I had unwittingly been confined to an institution for juvenile delinquents.

The triple room in the basement was awful. Bare concrete walls and ceiling, a small partial basement window, a naked flourescent as the light source and some broken cupboards for storage. I am amazed this even legal in Switzerland. I could find no signs of fire extinguishers, alarms or escape routes either. The room is so small they have had to remove the doors of some of the cupboards since they can't be opened since the beds would block them in this claustrophobic room.

The location is not really that convenient in relation to the ski lifts. The bus is rather infrequent, but if you check the time table it works I guess. I had a car, so did not have to consider that.

On the plus side, the place is meticulously clean, and the WiFi is great. The common areas are also nice. If you stay out of the basement, and avoid the english lady you'll probably be fine!

Arrived at MAP where my sister was staying for a ski trip. Everything was fine until the place keeper arrived in the middle of our dinner to show the place to new tenants. She opened the recycling been to see that tissues had been placed there (not by us) and threw them on the floor.

We asked for beddings for myself as im staying in the same room as my sister, the keeper insited that i pay upfront (30 swiss francs per night, im stayin 2 nights. My sister and her friends already paid 1400 Francs for the week) if i wanted any beddings. Shocked i asked if i could pay by card, she said no there is an atm closeby and you have 5 min to pay me if you want the beddings.

We wrote an email to the place manager explaining the situation, he replied "i am sick and tired off all the complaints and stop this primary school behaviour".

I decided to go and withdraw the money, we went to the keeper room and knocked on the door. We were welcomed (prior to her opening the door) by a "f*** hell, f*** bas****".
Plainly the worst experience i have ever had.

I guess if you are a big group it would be more like having your own Chalet.
With shared toilets etc. Why the bad rankning for the stay.
First you have to pay half of the booking fee by bankaccount number when you book. i guess for a reason. Why not a regular paent metode. Then they want it so clean there that you get "foppatofflor" when you walk inside. Do not forget to bring towles they cost extra. Me and my friend paid for a 3 bedroom. This "room" was a rebuild of a wardrobe. Even if we paid for the room we were not allowed to use the third bed in our room for putting stuff on since we only was 2 people. And do not forget to take of the sheets before you go...

I'm only writing this now, because it's only been recently that I've received some compensation following my stay at the MAP. Although there were many aspects about my stay which I enjoyed, some things happened which nearly ruined my holiday and have left a bitter taste in my mouth.

It concerns the last morning of my trip. Having removed all my luggage from the room I went to the centre of Verbier to look for food before I set off in my car. While I was gone one of the people I'd shared a room with said I'd left a few things behind: my thermals, grey fleece and a pair of ski socks. The most sensible thing to do, it seemed, was to put them in the boot room where people leave their bags and boots on departure and arrival days. I could pick them up on my way back before I left.

Imagine my shock therefore when I arrived back to be told by the very unsympathetic and stand-offish host that she had put them in the bin. Not just any bin, the long drop bin outside where nothing can be reclaimed from. I found this a bit shocking - I couldn't have been the first person to leave something behind - and it was only a matter of hours. I was told my clothes were at the bottom of a bin with a large drop and there was no way I'd get them back. I asked her, politely, why she did this and she was very rude and unsympathetic back. Moreover, she couldn't give me an answer.

It then turned out that though she'd thrown my thermals and socks away, she had washed the grey fleece, and hung it up in a private room. HER room. I asked 'if the policy was to throw away all property left behind ASAP, why was it that she washed and took care of my fleece?' Again, she would not give me a straight answer. I can only be forced to conclude that she intended to keep the fleece for herself- and that she has no compassion or respect for other people's property.

There are were echoes of this earlier in the week. We'd needed help because a coathook had fallen down in the room. We looked for her for two days but never saw her. It turned out she'd been at a car show in Geneva. On this occasion, the problem was not serious- but it could've been. The other issue was when we went to check in. It was originally stated that check in was between 17:30 and 18:30. When we said we'd be arriving after 18:00 she got angry at us because she had 'somewhere to be'. As you can imagine, it wasn't a welcoming start to the trip.

All in all, I feel very let down by this place but that's nothing to do with the MAP itself, but the people working in it. I asked for compensation for my lost property, but no one from the MAP would return my emails. The staff at booking.com also tried but no one replied to them. I'd advise people to avoid this place.

My family spent four days at MAP Verbier in February 2013. What a special place! Marc and Melody are welcoming hosts--extremely friendly and very helpful. Our bedroom was not spacious, but the beds were extremely comfortable and the linens were new and luxurious. Having a sink in the room was a convenient touch. The entire property is maintained with exceptional care. Everything is spotless and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare any meal of your choosing. It was really nice to find a property that advertises WIFI where it really works!

The bus stop to take you to the slopes is at the end of the driveway, and if you have a car, parking is convenient and free. The best part of MAP Verbier, however, is the value. It allows those on a budget to stay conveniently in one of the most expensive ski towns in Switzerland. Should our travels take us to Verbier again, we will definitely stay at MAP Verbier.

I just got back from a three day solo trip to Verbier. I thought at first I couldn't afford lodging there after seeing the prices of the other hotels in town and then I came across MAP. This place is sweet! Great location, really comfortable beds, great kitchen, and an incredible selection of DVDs. Also, the included breakfast at the spot down the road is probably the most scenic place in the world to enjoy a pastry and coffee.

However, the best part of MAP is the owner, Marc. I showed up pretty late in the evening and after coordinating with him, he stayed late to welcome me. After giving me a thorough overview of the town and skiing options, he then gave me a full tour of Verbier in his car, dropped me off at the local pub and joined me for some beers! I have stayed in many hostels in my travels, but I have not come across an owner as genuine and friendly as Marc.

If you're looking to do an awesome Swiss Alps vacation on a budget, book this place now.
