The hotel is literally steps from the gondola that will carry you up to the incredible valley that features Lake Oeschenisee which is not be be missed. The rooms are comfortable if somewhat basic; breakfast is great.

Friendly family run hotel. Herr Bieri was most hospital, and gave good advice. Location close to Oesschienen lift is ideal for hiking. Surroundings are stunning. Price of halfboard was quite reasonable compared to Swiss standards. The food was of high quality, allthough the halfboard menu did not always represent the high standard of the restaurant, salad buffet and breakfast buffets... More

Off season stay and the only positive thing I can say it was inexpensive. No soap in the two rooms we booked and the owner/manager was unable to locate any in his "supply cabinet". One old fire-trap with the only bad breakfast of our three weeks and numerous stays in the Alps. Stop at the visitors center....they were very helpful... More

We arrived tired and hungry, four adults, plus one 18 month-old, owing to our flight to Zurich being delayed. Despite our late arrival there was help with all our baggage (an eighteen-month old always means more baggage) and after freshening up they provided us with a most welcome meal. We stayed at the Ermitage for 5 nights and each day... More

The hotel felt like it was an afterthought and that the main business was the restaurant. Our room was very simple and the view included looking over the parking lot. The breakfast was the most disappointing of our 3 weeks in Switzerland. There were flies all around which the owner explained away by saying we are in the country. There... More

We spent two weeks in Kandersteg on a walking / climbing holiday in July 2013. We stayed at Hotel Ermitage for 14-nights on a B&B basis. The hotel is easy to find, being immediately adjacent to the Oeschinensee gondola station, and is well signposted from the village center. However, don’t trust your satnav to get you there: our TomTom tried... More

This hotel is located next to the cable car to Oeschinensee and no need for a car to reach Kandersteg city centre, which is an easy walk of about five to ten minutes. Very quiet location for a good night sleep after enjoying a nice meal in the restaurant. Excellent food, top quality, fresh season vegetables. Friendly service. Rooms are... More

We made our first visit to Kandersteg in Dec 2011 at Christmas to try cross country skiing for the first time. We chose the Ermitage for its' quiet, yet convenient location and good value. We were not disappointed. The welcome was warm and understated. Our room was fine, with roomy balcony overlooking the front of the hotel and the nearby... More

We've been going to Kandersteg for years and usually stay in a chalet, but for one reason or another we ended up booking a hotel for our skiing trip this year, and the Hotel Ermitage made a very good offer. The hotel is literally 10m from both a ski-hire shop and the cable car. You can sit and have breakfast... More

This is small hotel ideally situated right next to the cable car station to Oeschinensee and five minutes walk from Kandersteg. The views are magnificent from all sides. Ample parking for visitors, nice restaurant and playground for kids. Excellent and friendly service. Reasonable prices given the quality of the hotel. A really relaxing stay with nothing to complain about. I... More
