The Hayloft is 1200m above sea level, south-facing and stands in about two acres of its own meadowland. The property is bordered by a trout stream and is very quiet; it has its own private access track and there is NO passing traffic. We have a superb outdoor hot tub for you to use. The house boasts stunning mountain views (over 3,600m) in every direction, clear views of glaciers and a magnificent waterfall. The Hayloft is about 1 mile from the centre of the village of Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. Kandersteg is a rural working village but has a parallel tourist-based economy. The village has all the expected range of facilities without losing its unique Swiss atmosphere.

We are a gay, disabled and mixed black and white couple, it's not always easy to find a place in Switzerland that will accept us as we are. We 've been coming to Peter and Kerry 's wonderful chalet for the last 12 years because they are the most accepting, open minded, friendly and welcoming hosts, probably in the whole of German speaking Switzerland. They are the best listeners, great at making you feel comfortable and welcome in their cosy and fabulous home. GAY FRIENDLY, colour-blind, it certainly is not something you'll come across often in conservative canton Bern. They work so hard yet make everything about your stay feel so smooth and easy, they deserve respect and probably a medal from the Swiss Tourist Board! Heartfelt thanks!

I have been visiting The Hayloft for many years. My most recent visit was the first for a couple of years. The warm welcome, hospitality, friendliness and lighter certainly didn’t disappoint. Peter and Kerry’s local knowledge, impressive, not to mention their knowledge and interest in the rest of the world. All the stories of their travels are fascinating and uplifting! I’ll be booking my next visit soon!

The Hayloft is beyond amazing. It has amazing Swiss hiking vibes. You won’t be disappointed booking here. We had a fabulous time and the hosts recommend great hikes, dinner locations and more. They are so kind and welcoming. We could of just kept chatting with them for hours! Room was extremely clean with comfortable beds.

This incredible B&B is located in an idyllic place in the swiss mountains. Next to numerous hikes, including the famous Oeschinensee Wanderung, we were welcomed into a very well taken care of house, with a very cozy room. The hot tub was the cherry on top to an amazing stay.

A beautiful B&B (those views!) with lovely hosts - many good stories to share and local recommendations. You can tell so much thought went into making the house a warm and loving home. We really enjoyed the evening hot tub experience (worth the extra fee). Note that the B&B is a bit of a walk if you are traveling to Kandersteg without a car and are carrying many bags. As noted in some other prior reviews, the B&b is a bit strict. No food allowed in the house. We’ve been to over 50 countries and have never been to a hotel or b&b that did not allow us to use the fridge for food storage, or at the very least eat our own snacks/food in our rooms or out in the dining room. Also, it is a Late check in and early check out despite no one checking in the day we were checking out (4pm onwards and 10am checkout). While we realize that this is also the primary house the hosts/owners live in, we did feel that we had to tip toe around during our stay. We really did enjoy our stay, but found the strict rules a bit of a turnoff and hope the owners don’t write another long response to refute the feedback. There’s a honest reason why numerous guests have expressed the same sentiments.…

We absolutely loved our stay at The Hayloft in Kandersteg! It is the most beautiful, warm, charming bed and breakfast! And the setting in a stunning valley surrounded by mountains and waterfalls is spectacular! The owners, Kerry and Peter, and their son James and his wife Yaza are all just delightful, and absolutely wonderful hosts. The town of Kandersteg and the surrounding area is well worth a visit - spectacular scenery, charming restaurants, beautiful hikes - just a perfect little Eden of a place! I hope we have the chance to return again in the future!

Kerry & Peter have an eye for design and our rooms were spotless. The house is utterly beautiful inside and out and the early evening wood-burning hot tub was a delight. Four days into our stay we were surprised to find a small device in our 'living room' area which we found out was a camera that recorded on detecting movement. We had unknowingly been filmed walking wrapped in towels, in underwear and cuddled up on the sofa. On questioning, Kerry explained that there was CCTV upstairs, downstairs and outside the house which sent footage to an IT acquaintance of theirs in England, to identify perpetrators when things went missing. She reassured us there were no cameras in the bathrooms and bedrooms. K & P were hugely helpful with local walk, map and travel knowledge and sometimes made evening meal bookings for us. A top tip for those travelling without a car...the restaurants are all 10-25 mins walk away and after a day's hiking it can be a bit of a schlep in the rain!…

Response from RAUBER, General Manager at The Hayloft

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are pleased that you liked our property. My wife and I did our absolute best to provide you with a memorable experience. Sorry that we couldn’t move the restaurants closer than 10 minutes, or provide better weather, we did however offer you large umbrellas. You will be delighted to know that no one was recording you in your underwear :-). Although quite why you were walking through our living space (not “your” living room) in various levels of undress is puzzling. On entering our property there are clear signs that indicate that security CCTV is installed, not spy cameras as you seem to imply. These have been installed for the safety and security of all our guests. This is quite commonplace in hospitality. There are of course no cameras in the guest accommodation. We wish you all the best, stay safe, stay well Peter

We picked kandersteg to stay away from the tourist crowds for a couple of days. The place was clean and comfortable. The outdoor seating area was beautiful overlooking the falls. There is no air conditioning but if you leave the windows open at night, it was ventilated. If you reserve by contacting them over email it's usually cheaper than airbnb where they have listed as well. If you have luggages with you you can ask for a pick up/drop off from the station as it's a 10 min walk from the station and the last few meters are not paved. The hosts were welcoming and provided breakfast as well.
